Liwaco LW-610 - Casio VL-1 VL-TONE Clone w/ Original Box

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this listing

"Made in Japan Liwaco LW-610 mini keyboard synth 80s.

Instrument de Musique Electronique!

I guess Liwaco is a French electronic gadgets/toy company, and they had comissioned Casio to do their own brand models, equal to original Casios but with different colour schemes and of course printed in French!!

This is the good old Casio VL-1 VL-TONE , only sexier (than it already is ) with the futuristic bordeaux colour and with French words spread all over :)

MINT MINT MINT!

No issues, works excellent, all OK.

Comes in original box and the users manual booklet (of course in French)"

Just Can't Get Enough - Depeche Mode (cover by Munatix), On Roland Jupiter 4, Casio VL-1, Pro One

video upload by Munatix

"Depeche Mode's 'Just Can't Get Enough' is a synthpop LEGEND! Parties erupt when this song hits, and we get it! This energetic anthem is timeless.
We're huge fans, so we dove deep and covered it ourselves!
Vince Clarke, a founding member, laid the groundwork for this sound with his innovative synthesizer work in the early days of Depeche Mode. Dissecting these classics is how we learn.
Secret weapons? Korg KR-55 snare & Casio VL-Tone synth lead! 🤖 🎹🧐😮
Wanna know more about the original recording? Tell us in the comments!

"This Casio appears to have never been used. When I opened one end to inspect the original batteries were still there, although they are starting to corrode. There is a spot of corrosion on inside of box but it's not liked they leaked all over. Everything is still in plastic and looks new. The casio is mint unused condition. I did run test it briefly to make sure everything is good and it is. The box looks nice but does have a little storage wear."

Door #23: Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann (Santa’s Coming Tomorrow) - Synthmas '21

video upload by Synthfluencer

"The song:
This songs lyrics wrote none other than Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben who wrote among many other well known poems the German anthem. The melody appeared first in 1761 in France and was adapted by W. A. Mozart as base melody for his Piano Variations KV 265.

The gear:
Here my other Casio 'synth', the PT-1 comes into play. This successor of the legendary VL-1 got 4 instruments (Piano, Fantasy, Strings, Flute) and a rhythm section that is most notable for it's appearance in German Neue Deutsche Welle band Trio's track "Da Da Da". This is my very first synth I got as a present in the late 80s. Notice the Alf sticker that make this unit a unique one. I did a multi track recoring using my Boss RC-202 loop station. The tone signal is passed through the Zoom MS70 CDR effect unit adding some reverb, chorus, pitch and phaser.

Red Casio PT-82 w/ Original Box

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This keyboard from 1986 has many similarities with the Casio , but includes a "melody guide" key lighting feature for music teaching (not the keys itself light up but a row of small LEDs above them) and a ROM- Pack music cartridge slot. Unfortunately this instrument is missing the great built-in synthesizer, sequencer and 3 octave switch of the VL-Tone.
Although the music playback from the ROM- Pack includes wonderful polyphonic accompaniments, the player can play own musics only monophonic with thin and dull sounding blip rhythms. A bit unusual is that this white keyboard has brightly coloured orange and red buttons and red lines while Casio normally preferred pastel colours. Also a red case version of the PT-82 was made. In 1987 it was re-released in grey as .

YAMAHA VP1 & VL1 Factory Sound Demos

video upload by Simon Le Grec

"YAMAHA VP 1 | 10.000,- USD Synthesizer | Factory Songs (HQ) The first model of synthesizer to feature VA (virtual acoustic) tone generation based on physical modeling, a complete departure from sampling and FM.
A VA tone generator creates sounds by simulating the physical mechanism by which wind, string and other instruments produce sound.
The virtual instruments simulate characteristics such as the shape and materials of music instruments, allowing the creation of tonal changes that respond to the breathing and playing methods used.
The VL1 was created with reed instruments and other wind instruments in mind, and thus is two-note polyphonic."

YAMAHA VL1 | Virtual Acoustic Synthesizer | Factory Songs (HQ)

"The VL-1 was a ground breaking synthesizer with new technology renowned for accurate reproductions of wind instruments. It is a 2-note polyphony instrument that is best used with a breath controller such as the BC-2 or BC-3.

The VL-1 cost around 4000 pounds in 1994, and was out of reach for most musicians. As such it sold in relatively small numbers and are hard to find. They do come onto the second hand market occasionally and demand between $3000 to $5000 (Aust) depending on condition.

There was a VL7 which was essentially half a VL1 though it looked very similar. Then there is the legendary VP1 which was a VL1 with more power, polyphony and keys. It was made in very limited numbers, perhaps less than a handful. That was due to its price tag, rumoured to have been around $25,000 (US). As such it has often been considered more of a prototype than a proper production model.

This instrument suggests quality of build and sound at first sight. It has real wood, which has not been seen since the DX1 (exactly one decade earlier). Then there are the Champaign gold end panels connected by a band across the top front end. A colour very similar to that used on Yamaha’s B500 in 1990. The gold however is flat with slightly rough texture to contrast against the smooth varnished wood and its semi-gloss finish.

Interestingly it only has 49 keys which to the uninformed will instantly cast doubt, especially with only 2-notes polyphony, and no on-board sequencer.

The screen is striking and very clear with its white back light. The front panel is very well organized with good spacing between all buttons. We particularly like the way the patch buttons are perfectly arranged in 3 rows.

The pitch and modulation wheels feel nice and was a successful design that continued to many future generations. The 3 wheels placed on a stage is an innovative design solution to integrate with a curvy end panel. There is also a disk drive discretely tucked under the left side edge

All controllers feel like they would on a Rolls Royce and command respect. This is not a toy or machine to be thrown around on stage or studio. This was built to look and feel like a digital cross between a violin and a saxophone."
