"The Chromaplane and Haloplane are unique electromagnetic synthesizers played using pickups. They’re instruments that emphasizes expression, intuition, and play.
Chromaplane
Electromagnetic analog synthesizer with ten tunable fields
Self-contained and pure, the Chromaplane creates a cloud of electromagnetic oscillations above its surface - play melodies by drawing above the surface, or just drone. A simple and intuitive interface focusing on immediate and organic electronic sound.
Haloplane
Electromagnetic micro-loop sampler
We’ll be showing the Haloplane at Superbooth 26 (booth O400) in Berlin."
First of all, big THANKS to everyone who made it to our KOMAPARTY 2.0 some weeks ago! We had great fun and were happy to hang out with friends and our community <3
Big ups Bertolt Meyer, Teslator, Cate Hops with FridaY and Echosisters!
Here's a few snaps for the vibes:
KOMA BOOTH AT SUPERBOOTH
What's all this??? We're excited to share what we've been working on during the Superbooth preparations, including a few mysterious surprises! You will find us at Booth O400 - same as last year. Just walk up the main big stairs and turn left until you see a bunch of nerds in black dungarees playing weird looking instruments… Probably our best SB drip yet!
This year, we will showcase a handful of brand new designs of upcoming modules to be released later this year including Monoplex - a smaller version of the Komplex sequencer, Bürste - a noise burst generator, a Wavefolder, a Dual Envelope and a KOMA VCO! Sensei and Kassiopeia, which are both available for pre-order, will also have their space in special installations we’ve prepared especially for this year.
One of them is using your movements or even your heartbeat to generate cool shapes with our new VCO and Sensei sensor modules. You'll be able to print out the results as a sticker!

"Breeze Block is a magnetic granular synthesizer and MIDI CC controller. The surface of the instrument is divided into eight zones that are each independently sensitive to permanent magnetic fields. By interacting with the instrument using a neodymium magnet, you can capture audio which is split into grains and manipulated. Different zones and positions on the instrument have different effects on the pitch, density, and character of the granular texture."
"What's it like to receive an instrument after working on its design for four years? Well... it's pretty nice! This is what it might be like to receive your Chromaplane in the mail!"
"The Chromaplane by Duo Passepartout and Koma Elektronik is an oddity: it is an experimental analog synth that does not have a keyboard or MIDI, but instead it is played with telephone coil pickups. A beautifully unique idea thatl found success on Kickstarter, funding within minutes. I got to play with the pre-series model for a week."
"Official DEMO video for the Chromaplane, a novel polyphonic analog synthesizer developed by KOMA Elektronik and Passepartout Duo.
The Chromaplane is designed around ten tunable electromagnetic fields that are emitted from its sleek aluminum surface. The experience of playing it combines the immediacy of an acoustic instrument, with the endless possibilities of electronic music.
Coming soon on Kickstarter!"

"At Superbooth 2024, Chris showcased the Chromaplane*, an electromagnetic synthesizer developed with the support of *KOMA Electronic*. The instrument features 10 electromagnetic fields emitting from specific points on its surface, which are played using two pickup coils. The sound is detected by the coils, passing through a low pass filter and delay, creating a unique modulation effect. Additionally, the *Chroma Plane includes an envelope follower output and an external input for playing external audio sources.
The concept of the Chroma Plane originated from Chris's experience as a musician and visual artist, leading to the development of a smaller version of the instrument for live performances. After more than 100 concerts worldwide, Chris and KOMA are working towards making the Chroma Plane available as a commercial product in the coming months. Stay tuned to the Koma website for updates."
"KOMA Elektronik & Passepartout Duo are collaborating on a new standalone instrument called the Chromaplane.
Are you ready to start a new journey together?
The Chromaplane features a touchless interface, organic analog sounds, and an intuitive way of playing, all made possible by invisible electromagnetic fields. It combines the expressivity of traditional acoustic instruments, with the endless experimentation of electronic sound design.
Passepartout Duo has been road testing the Chromaplane in their performance setup for a while, and now we’re finally at the last stages of development. In the next month, we’ll be revealing more information about this unique instrument, so…
