Live Processing with Torso S-4 | DecadeBridge Sn + MTL Purpll Drone Improvisation
video upload by Andre Bregegere
"An improvised hardware session exploring live textural processing and generative drones.
In this performance, I’m using the Torso Electronics S-4 as the central sonic playground and processing brain. The Montreal Assembly (MTL) Purpll is set to drone mode, acting as a self-contained, unstable harmonic generator. Alongside it, the DecadeBridge Sn provides a gritty, compact synthesizer voice.
Both devices are routed into separate, dedicated inputs on the S-4, allowing for independent live looping, granular warping, and spatial sculpting on the fly.
The performance was recorded live from the S-4 output, then lightly mixed and mastered in Pro Tools

Sculpting the Duos // Live Soundscapes with Torso S-4
video upload by Andre Bregegere
"A raw, live-recorded ambient improvisation using the Hikari Duos synthesizer routed through the Torso Electronics S-4 sculpting sampler for real-time processing and sound design.
This performance was captured entirely live in a single take, presented without any edits or arrangements after the fact. The master audio was lightly mixed and mastered in Pro Tools for clarity and depth.
Signal Flow & Routing:
• Source: Each of the two unique oscillators from the Hikari Duos is sent to its own dedicated channel on the Torso S-4 (Track 1 and Track 2).
• Processing: Both input tracks are actively sculpted live on the S-4 and routed through an Aux Send on Track 4 for shared spatial effects and texture generation.
If you enjoy live electronic music, generative soundscapes, and hardware jams, consider subscribing for more process-driven sessions.

Torso S-4 POLY Engine: Turning Samples Into Synths (Torso Explorations Vol. 34)
video upload by
"In Volume 34 of my Torso Explorations series, we are diving deep into the POLY engine on the Torso Electronics S-4 sculpting sampler. While the S-4 is an incredible texture and ambient machine, the POLY engine transforms it into an expressive, 8-voice polyphonic synthesizer by arranging samples chromatically across the keys.
I walk you through how to configure and play the POLY engine using two external MIDI controllers: the Keith McMillen QuNexus keyboard for manual playing, and the Korg SQ-1 for sequencing.
The POLY engine gives you per-voice control over amplitude and filter envelopes, allowing you to sculpt raw samples into beautifully playable synth patches.
--
🎵 What's inside this video:
• Track 1: Demonstrating the core mechanics and envelope shaping of the POLY engine using a built-in stock sample.
• Track 2: A quick, live workflow showing how to sample an external acoustic instrument (my mandolin) using the S-4’s internal microphone and instantly flip it into a polyphonic synth patch.
This entire performance was recorded live in one take, with light mixing and mastering finished in Pro Tools. The video is fully annotated throughout so you can easily follow the exact parameters and routing I'm altering in real-time.
If you enjoy these deep dives into the S-4, please consider liking the video, subscribing to the channel, and leaving a comment with how you’re using your S-4!

One Drum Loop, Infinite Soundscapes | Torso S-4 Exploration Vol. 34 #sounddesign
video upload by Andre Bregegere
"Welcome to Volume 34 of my Torso S-4 Explorations.
For this improvised live performance, I set a strict creative limitation: use only one single sample (a drum loop) and one single track on the Torso Electronics S-4. The goal was to push the boundaries of the S-4's granular and sound-design engines to see just how far a single piece of source audio could be stretched, morphed, and reshaped into a variety of sonic landscapes.
The performance was recorded live with only minor edits for pacing. Final audio was lightly mixed and mastered in Pro Tools."

Creating with the S4: Randomized melodies
video upload by torso electronics
"In this video, we use the S4 random modulator to turn a simple sine wave into a melodic sequence.
Starting from a tonal sample in the Factory Library, we shape the sound with drive and reverb, then map random modulation to pitch using the Speed parameter. From there, we adjust polarity, length, rate, and variation to explore how the melody moves."

Torso S-4 2.2 Beta: The Revamped MOSAIC Engine (Deep Dive Tutorial & Demo)
video upload by Andre Bregegere
"Following up on my previous improvised jam (Torso S-4 Explorations Vol. 30), this video is a dedicated deep-dive tutorial and demonstration of the newly revamped MOSAIC engine introduced in the 2.2 beta firmware update.
The Torso S-4's granular engine has received a massive overhaul, and in this guide, I break down exactly how it works so you can get the most out of your sound design sessions.
What I Cover:
• Detailed Scan Mode and Parameter Walkthrough: An in-depth look at how the different scan modes behave under the 2.2 beta firmware, and at the interface changes and new parameters.
• The 'Fox.wav' Demo: To clearly demonstrate these technical changes, I put the engine to work using a single vocal sample (the legendary 'fox.wav' sample from CSound history), allowing you to clearly hear how each parameter shapes the texturing, time-stretching, and cloud generation.
Whether you're looking to update your hardware or just curious about the direction Torso Electronics is taking the S-4 sampler, I hope this helps guide your workflow!

S4: Track in 10 posts
"An empty project and 10 minutes on the clock. In an uninterrupted one take we explore ideas, sculpt sounds, and let the S4 sculpting sampler guide the moment. 'Track in 10' is about staying in the flow and creating without overthinking. In this video we take two vinyls, and record them into the S4, building a full idea from scratch in real time. Everything is captured: the decisions, mistakes, and happy accidents.

Torso Live Session #5: Ctrls
video upload by torso electronics
"Torso Electronics presents the fifth live session recorded at our office space in Copenhagen.
In this episode, Copenhagen-based artist Ctrls presents a live set built entirely around the S4, using the samples he created for the factory sound library.
Ctrls: 'It's composed without any sequencing, only looping and modulation, which is a totally new way of working for me, but which the S4 makes really fun and engaging. The Ableton Push 3 and Intech midi controller act as a my mixer and finalizer, and I'm triggering and effecting some drones and fx sounds from its launch grid. It was a great experience and I'm happy I got to exercise a less clubby side to my music. Big thanks to the Torso team for the opportunity.'
About Ctrls
The Ctrls project was founded In 2012. From the first release the presence of a highly individual sonic style was apparent and his fast paced and futuristic techno based sound has now been well established with a stream of respected music on labels such as Token Records, Earwiggle, Micron Audio, Mechatronica and Key Vinyl. A lifelong devotee of electronic dance music, DJ’ing and live performance are central for the project. This has resulted in many involved sets at globally notable venues such as Tresor, Berghain, Khidi, Fabric, Kit Kat, Fold, Basement NY, and Club Drugstore as well a residency at Copenhagens purest electronic venue: Den Anden Side. The future holds a wider scope as electro, breakbeats, noise and audio visual components are folded into the distinctive Ctrls sound palette."

Torso S-4 • Shifting Divisions
video upload by Nate Connelly Music
"Torso Electronics S4 Sculpting Sampler
Last night I was experimenting with the Torso. I have only a pad running on track 1 and a kick on track 2. I set-up 6 scene instances and changed the rate divisIons for the pad on each one - I then created some variation in terms of effects etc and set the sequences to run in a chain with the sequence order set to randomize. It runs at 95bpm, then 50, then 180.
Thanks for listening."

Torso Live Session #4: A. Dixen
video upload by torso electronics
"Torso Electronics presents the fourth live session recorded at our office space in Copenhagen.
In this episode, A. Dixen takes a minimalist approach to his live setup, using the S4, T1, Elektron Octatrack, Elektron Model:Cycles, Eventide Space and Boss DD-500 Digital Delay.
With the S4 being the newest addition to the setup, A. Dixen focuses on exploring and utilising it as much as possible, while relying on the T1 as the creative centrepiece for structuring and sequencing the instruments connected.
About A. Dixen
A standard bearer for the fusion of Copenhagen’s latent experimentalism with a more club-forward sensibility, A.Dixen - the moniker of Copenhagen’s Anders Dixen - is a project neither rigid nor bound, expressing instead a path of development which follows that of his own mental intrigue. It is an effort in condensing years experienced at a wide vantage and spectrum of musicality, to refine it into something delivered with measured intent.
From driving u.k. techno and bass-weighted percussive tek to liminal dub abstactions and a kind of obtuse psych-minimalism, there lies in Dixen a freedom of movement and play expressed like currents in his mental wind. Whether via the introspection of scattered polyrhythms paired with dense atmospheres or through straight 4-to-the-floor thump, there is a coherent sonic thread which strings these diverse modes together, one bound oft in modular synthesis and analogue experimentalism. Despite this headsy proclivity, he is just as likely set to rights by the weather, the time, the space; sun beams through rafters calling forth an early tech-house attitude, a deep-house swagger, a steppers inclination borne out in more recent radio outings and club sets.
Through A.dixen we find entire multitudes, a reservoir channeled through an adaptive seekers sentiment into something singular. Forward, ever beyond.
