Tim and Binder

"Secret Swords played in Columbus last night with our great pals Wicked Lung & The Wookalar www.myspace.com/wickedlungwookalar - they played all new songs that had me doing the shoulder dance like a freaking jackass maniac the entire time. Before the show we all hung out at Jason's and Elisa's for a bbq, which was awesome. The Tim and Binder dudes were talking about how they build their synthesizers from scratch, and the terminology they used was like a foreign language and completely over my head. They were a.ma.zing.

Oh yeah and there was free PBR for the bands last night which is always awesome and dangerous at the same time. Afterhour's was at Jason and Elisa's. I passed out on the couch at around 4am, we hit the road around a painful 9:00.

It was another totally amazing Columbus trip.

I am hungover."

EHX Flanger Hoax Feedback Loop

YouTube via Analogger
"This is a noise improv where I routed the Flanger Hoax effect out to the input and ran the blend out into a ModFactor and then into a mixer. The sound was sometimes processed with a little reverb, delay, and TC electronic FireworX."

Cwejman MX-4S, MMF-4, PH-4, PlanB, Doepfer, and Harvestman

"I really liked the trapazoid generator in the last video, but it didn't quite fit my current workflow. So I replaced it with the PH-4 and a few other modules. The Cwejman PH-4 is a beautiful 4 phase LFO, it outputs 4 phases of one LFO at 90 degree invervals. It's excellent for panning. Here I'm testing out some stereo panning tricks with the PH-4. It and the Doepfer 143-1 Complex Envelope Generator/LFO are modulating the filters and the 143-1 is controlling one of the gates in the M13 Dual Timbral Gate. The Model 10 Polyphonic Envelope Generator controls the other gate. In addition to the Cwejman MMF-4, the PlanB Model 11 Evil Twin and Harvestman Polivoks filters are used. MFB Seq-01 sequences. and triggers the 143-1, Model 10, and Jomox MBase01 for the kick.

The MMF-4 is one sweet module for panning and VC for filters.

I thought the last video I uploaded was just too dorky sounding. I tried to make this one sound "cool". Put on yer sunglasses kinda cool."

Cwejman MMF-1 Reso Beats

"This has to be one of the greatest eurorack modular filters available. There is such a beautiful clarity to it, rich and versatile. This is just resonance, it's sort of annoying but you get a since of the massive tone the MMF-1 is capable of. Multimode indeed! Dual bandpass kicks......well you get it. Did you know the Machinedrum can send gate pulses? Yep. That's what's controlling the envelope generator. Cool. Flashing lights courtesy of Dr.Bleep's Thingamagoop."

Vangelis "Spiral" cover

YouTube via mik300z. Update: stereo version embedded.
"Juno 6 and 106 hard at work here! Just some background info for this cover version. Because I needed almost every sound to come from the analogue juno 6 which does not have patch memory and impossible to sync the arpeggiator clock to the ESQ sequencer, I had to make the track in 2 stages. First, I recorded the Juno 6 alone in the arp. part the whole way through, manually adjusting the PWM and envelope through the chords. Then played it back through the mixer while adding some percussion and bringing in the 106 for the sequenced bass and try and sync the 2 tracks . This time I was adjusting the juno6's parameters in real time to flick between the slow attack chords and fast attack melodyline. It sounds too heavy in the melodyline I know, I just wish I had 3 or 4 more Junos in my setup to assign each one for the different patches. So as you see some of the music and video sometimes sounds out of sync, it was the only way i could do it. This was one of those times I would love a huge studio with real drums and percussion instruments and just go crazy lol! Also thanks to my 9 year old daughter Hannah who did the video, she's getting pretty handy with the camera!"
