ROLAND SH-09 VINTAGE SYNTH NEW HOME / THIERRY IN SWITZERLAND
YouTube via stickmanband3
"This is a neat old synthesizer that I've had for a while. I did use it in one song I wrote for my Great Nephew Taylor. The song is "Poopie in the Pot" and this Roland SH-09 was used for the lead section and riff in the song. Maybe I'll add that song at some point, but this is just goofing around to remember what it sounded like and the such. Peace - frazier - small town music"
"Equinoxe part 1" - on ELKA EP-8
YouTube via organfairy
"This is the proof that you can do something fantastic with just a computer - or a tape recorder - and a home organ bought for next to nothing at a charity sale. Purists will probably say that I should play this piece on an Eminent organ like J.M.Jarres. But I think the ELKA does a good job and they are easier to find. I also wanted to somehow illustrate the seven separate tracks without some fancy video tricks. But you can see for yourself how I solved that...."
Drawdio: MacGyver Everyday Things into Musical Instruments
Drawdio: Turn Almost Anything Into a Theramin
YouTube via wakeupsilver. Be sure to click on the drawdio label below for more.
"Imagine you could draw musical instruments on normal paper with any pencil (cheap circuit thumb-tacked on) and then play them with your finger. The Drawdio circuit-craft lets you MacGuyver your everyday objects into musical instruments: paintbrushes, macaroni, trees, grandpa, even the kitchen sink...
One day I bought a "harmonium" kit at the street market in Bangalore. I hacksawed the keyboard off to make the first ever Drawdio circuit. We played with it at a local school in the slums using plants, water, our foreheads, etc. My friend told me graphite would work too. Meditating on it, I realized the Drawdio circuit should be literally attached to a pencil to "draw audio," and that's where the name came from: Draw + Audio.
DIY: Make it. Remix it. Play it."

Roland JX-3P
YouTube via vinyljunkie07
"Some sounds I programed on the roland jx-3p to give some idea of what this synth sounds like...added some dellay, reverb and phasor on various sounds in Logic but all played either live or from the JX's in built sequencer.
The last song only the bass is the JX-3P other sounds are from the juno 1"

"Yet another video of me giving insight on patch making. In this episode, learn to create a harpsichord. WOW!"
Tutorial: Making a Face Melting Lead (Alesis Andromeda)
"This is an amateur tutorial on how to make a guitar like sync lead. I hope that I provide a nice demonstration of the A6 and let a few people gain some wisdom on making cool patches.
*NOTE* I made a mistake in this video. Please change the frequency of Oscillator 1 down 12 semitones. The sync wasn't working cause I never changed the masters frequency V_V"

OPEN CALL FOR PERSONAL BLIP DOCUMENTARIES . . .
Over the past two years, 2 Player Productions has served as the official videography crew for the Blip Festival. Each year, they release a comprehensive DVD package featuring one song from each of the festival's 32 musical performances as well as bonus materials related to New York's chip music scene.
In the interest of broadening the scope of their coverage of Blip '08 as a whole, 2PP is putting out an open call to audience members for footage documenting their personal experience of this year's festival. Film yourself getting ready for the show, traveling to New York, hanging out in the city, meeting other fans, freaking out during your favorite performances, going out afterwards, etc. The more you shoot, the better.
Pictures are also welcome and highly encouraged. The final product will be edited into a short documentary for the official Blip Festival 2008 DVD.
To confirm your participation and receive details (or ask questions) please email

Mini Korg DS10 Review
via Horton on the AH list:"I finally got a copy of the Korg DS-10, and it's outstanding. I'm actually surprised at what a great job they did across the board with every last element of design and execution. First off, the thing is INSANELY ergonomic - there's an almost magical logic and intuitive workflow that comes with holding the DS in your hand and using the shoulder buttons to toggle between the different modules while interacting with them using the pen and touchscreen. It's simply something that has not yet been accomplished using any sort of mouse-driven software synthesizer or sequencer, and it is truly inspiring - I made three COMPLETE songs in the first hour or so, including building all sounds from scratch. I was most impressed by the drum section - each of the four individual drum voices (programmed xox-style on a 16-step grid) is COMPLETELY editable using the same entire MS-10 synth engine that's used for the two melodic synthesizers, patch cables and all. So the end result is basically like having 6 ms-10's sitting on a table, with a mixer, effects, two KAOSS pads, and six 16-step sequencers to control them. For every element that I thought the designer would (justifiably) skimp on, like effects routing, I discover that they actually went one step further.
I could go on about it all day, but for $40, it's an insane deal. I've actually made a google group for discussion if anyone wants to join - Outstanding!"
