another MIDI MuRF demo: sequenced from FR Orb

follow-up to this post. via Amos on the AH list:

"So, still getting to know the new MIDI Murf... I thought it would be fun to see how it is to sequence the MuRF filters from the Future Retro ORB sequencer, using the Orb's remix feature to generate new filter patterns on the fly.

The answer is, it's really really fun! Have a listen. :-)

Lots of analog content here... the MuRF is getting a softsynth for input, but the bass is FR XS and drums are Jomox XBase09. The XS and the MIDI MuRF are getting the same sequence frome the Orb, so the envelopes are all firing in sync. The XBase is synced to the same clock. I am changing the Remix settings on the Orb and tweaking the envelope settings on the MIDI MuRF in realtime. Track (such as it is) is one pass recorded live.

And here is a bit of the MIDI MuRF sequence solo, no bass or drums:

Synopsis:
Formed in 1969, Electronic Music Studios (EMS) quickly became innovators for the recording, production and advancement of electronic music. The ideas and designs that bubbled forth out of the ingenuitive minds of Peter Zinovieff, Tristram Cary, David Cockerell and others, led to the creation of some of the most wildly original musical / sound design equipment ever conceived. The VCS3, Synthi A + AKS, Synthi 100, Synthi E, Synthi Logik and the Soundbeam are among these,
almost unworldly, devices.

It is often said EMS gear has attained cult status, reaching a fervor of near worship among its users. The Synthi Group is an example and collection of such users. United through the Synthi blog and forum (www.thesynthi.de) and located throughout the world, the group's members have come together for a planned series of compilation volume releases where the individuality and approach of each member towards their EMS instrument is showcased and broadcasted for all to experience. The listener will hear wildly different examples of styles and sounds that this original, and oft times, vintage equipment can create.

EMS were true pioneers from the very beginning, always looking beyond the culture and times they were surrounded and seemingly trapped in. Still around today, thanks to Robin Wood and Ludwig Rehberg, they are one of the few companies involved with electronic instrument production that have had a continued run since their inception. The Synthi Group have honed the original pioneering spirit and DIY ethic of EMS with their Volume series, a collection of sounds encompassing beautiful dreamscapes, synaesthetic visions, dark ambience, aural abstractions, sonic absurdities, pulsating analog, glitch, ring modulators, and envelope shapers generating trapezoidal geometry. Beginning with Volume 1, the Synthi Group compilations aim to ensure the story of EMS continues well into the future of electronic music production.

New Oakley Discontinuity

Waveshaper, Wavefolder, Clipper, Ring Modulator & Wavesplicer

"The Discontinuity is an updated version of an older Oakley module called the Wavefolder. Both devices are voltage controlled waveshaper modules designed primarily for use in modular analogue music synthesisers. The module comes in our standard 5U high 2U wide format which is directly compatible with Synthtech's MOTM series..."

SIEL CRUISE VINTAGE ANALOG SYNTHESIZER

via this auction Not the best shots, but you don't see these often.
"Mono Section: About 15 Presets of waveforms combined with fixed filter/ADSR settings. These presets can be changed to some general waveforms ( Mostly Saw ) at different pitches ( from 32' to 4' ). When being in this free mode, the ADSR/FILTER can be accessed in whole. Filter: No Keybord Tracking, no seperate LFO depth, no ADSR depth. Very basic. Early resonance gives wierd effects. There seems to be some low-bit digital control hidden inside. You can hear steps when moving the slider. And you can trick the slider by setting it just on the edge between to steps. Gives great distortion. Sound: Great. Real Basic, big balls, not very flexible. Good for bass and lead-lines. NO CV/GATE !
Poly Section: Octave Divided DCO. Seems to have single Filter with Multi-Trig of single ADSR. 4 Main Presets: Brass, Strings, Piano, Accordion-likes. These Presets are divided in 2 or 3 Tone-Color presets, Mostly high and low, Strings can be percussive, brass can have ( urgh ) resonance (splat). This gives a total of 10 tone colours, which can be combined freely. Main drawback: they can not be mixed seperately. Modifiers: Sort of. There is a small ADSR/Filter section, Some Presets enable some of them, A/D for Strings, A and Cutoff for Brass, and so on. Sound: Gives some mellotronish strings, a fair good piano. and is a bit slim in its sound. 1 DCO.
Keyboard : Number of Keys : 49 . 4 1/2 octaves ( from mind ), fixed split-point in the middle.

Can be split in the middle to have MONO/POLY Section on different keyboard sections. MONO can have Lowest/Highest Note Priority. The syntcan be modified to have all cominations of keyboard-modes accessible, ( for example: UPPER - MONO; LOWER - MONO/POLY )."
