Duran Duran Covers by willrobinsonensoniq on the Roland D-20
My cover of Duran Duran's Is There Something I Should Know on The Roland D-20
YouTube via willrobinsonensoniq — August 06, 2009 — "I had always wanted to do a cover of this song. When I bought the D-20 I was quite overwhelmed with it. The sequencer was straightforward, maybe a bit basic but creating sounds became a priority. I eventually lost interest in covers and just started composing my own material. I have since been discovering ways around what some would say are shortcomings. Also, this board has been given a bad reputation. There is a love/hate relationship with current and past owners. Maybe user expectations were a bit high. I am hoping to inspire others to look beyond the obvious and re-discover the potential some of this gear holds. Another reason I chose this song is because it is familiar to most people. This was sequenced entirely on the D-20 with no assistance from my other gear or a computer. This may not be a Fantom or a Motif, and may sound dated or simplistic, but should give you an idea of what a little creativity will reap. It is after all a D Series and deserves some recognition.
I want to thank Duran Duran for the fountain of inspiration their music provided and giving me the courage to finally perform in a band. Enjoy."
My cover of Duran Duran's The Chauffeur
"willrobinsonensoniq — July 17, 2009 — I first heard this song during the Summer of 1983. It was one of those Simulcast that aired late at night. The Panflute / Calliope solo just astounded me. Probably one of the only times it aired on American airwaves; not including College Radio. The Rio album was a must play when my friend and I played Chess.
I thought this would be an easy cover when I started. I just got wrapped up in sound programming and had to force myself to just record. This is not a perfect cover, but one I didn't want to rush either. Between all my other projects and this one I believe its time to just relax and enjoy the Summer. The Roland D20 fit right in on this song and that Calliope sound was in my opinion "close enough."
I want to thank Duran Duran for the fountain of inspiration their music provided and giving me the courage to finally perform in a band. BTW we do a killer version of Hungry Like the Wolf."
