Yamaha SY77 Demo Song: "Into the City"

YouTube via derekaggs11 | February 16, 2011 |

"Here is a short track I made using only my SY77 and its internal 16 track sequencer. Sounds a lot like my much-missed SQ-80 until you get to the little FM surprise near the end ;)"

Synthanola - Bach Invention's 8 and 13 - Punch Tape Sequencer

YouTube via 256byteram | February 14, 2011 |

"This video demonstrates two paper tapes which play Inventions 8 and 13 by J.S. Bach.

Sorry about the jumpy video. My computer must have been doing something at the time. My hands can't actually move that quickly.

More information at .http://kaput.retroarchive.org/555/"

"It is a three channel music synthesiser, capable of four octaves per chanel. The 555's are used to generate each octave for each voice (or channel). There are twelve 555 timer IC's used for the synthesiser section and two more for tempo control and paper speed. It is sequenced by a Heathkit H-10 paper tape unit and programmed with a 486 PC running QBasic (seriously, it's easier).

There are a few reasons why I chose to use a paper tape machine instead of an EEPROM and counters, or a microcontroller. First, I wanted this project to be made with components available in the 1970's. Also, I think it looks better to have something moving with the music and I'm not a great fan of using IC's with bazillions of transistors in them."

555 Contest Entry - Synthanola

256byteram | February 13, 2011

"This is my 555 Contest (www.555contest.com) entry. It is an analogue synthesiser based on 555 timers, with three channels and four octaves per channel. It is sequenced with either paper tape (as shown) or by any 8-bit interface with suitable flow control.

LIVE improvisation with PRO SOUND GAMEBOY

and LSDj keyboard + COMMODORE 64 + POD XT

YouTube via lukhashdotcom | February 14, 2010 |

"Live demo (improvisation) of my self-made gear.
I've spent a while on ordering and soldering all this stuff.

Gear Used:
★ DMG Gameboy with Prosound modification, equipped with LSDj cart and custom made keyboard interface connected with POD XT live.
★ C64 is equipped with Cynthcart.
★ Second DMG is fitted with Nanoloop 1.5

In 2009 I began experimenting with original chiptune machines. Commodore 64 and a couple of modded DMG Nintendo Gameboys created a blend of original 8bit sound from the 80's and Rock music.

"Live demo of one of my songs.
Bassline is played by an good old C64 equipped with Cynthcart.
Tune is called "we ain't finished yet" and has been featured on DEAD PIXELS long play.

In 2009 I began experimenting with SID chiptune (built-in sound generator chip of Commodore 64), and Cynthcart to create a blend of original 8bit sound from the 80's and Rock music.

"The catridge turns your C64 into a realtime controllable synth. With real time filter control, that can be added to the commodore's ports with two podmeters. A real easy beginners mod :) The chip on the cartridge is installed on a socket, so that it can be replaced with future updates to the firmware on the chip. This is also the reason why its not in a catridge housing, although thats fairly easy to arrange."

Blacet Modular Synthesizer

"Frequency Divider Blacet2020 (long out of production... the classic "digital fuzz" updated from original design in the 70's with tons of audio and cv uses.. hint.. try running a stringed instrument like a guitar through this.. it will turn your guitar into a Bally Midway Arcade game from 1978 and blast you into outer space! )

Binary Zone Blacet2300 (tons of uses, I like to use it as a step sequencer)

Klang Werk Blacet2010 (Like no other Ring Modulator on earth!)

I/O Blacet2225 (allows you to run anything into the modular for processing)

Mixer Processor Blacet2040 (not your regular mixer... mixes audio and cv signals!!)

Vermona Perfourmer Analog Synth

via this auction
"This synth is basically 4 single oscillator mono synths with the incredible Vermona sound. It can function several ways. It can be 4 independant mono synths. It can work as a 2 voice duophonic synth. It can be one phat 4 oscillator synth. It can also work in poly mode which alternates oscillators with every step/key press. It is analog and sounds like an analog animal. It has some great sounds that I am sure you can find on you tube if you've never heard it before. This one has the chrome knobs and has CV/Gate input as well as midi. The CV/Gate input make it nice to hook up to a modular setup. It also gives you the option to send the raw oscillator out to other modular gear. It requires a trs insert cable for each oscillator to achieve that function. This synth can play many roles and is unique as I've never used anything quite like it. Its sort of like the Korg Mono/poly but it really is its own machine. Manual, Patch Sheets, and Power cable are included."
