Theremin(Android APP) and IDEOS and Stylus

YouTube via perfumepod | Mar 1, 2011 |

"It is an application of the theremin. It played with IDEOS (small, smart phone) and the stylus pen.

It is simple oppositely and it is interesting there though cheap software there.

The stylus pen is very good for the performance that uses a small, smart phone."

Squidfanny - ALIEN DRUM MACHINE - Alesis HR-16

YouTube via squidfanny | Mar 18, 2009 |

"46 PCM Scrambling mods, housed on 4 toggles, 4 nice rotary switches and 6 big round push buttons.....

Precision oscillator (from www.getlofi.com) allows massive pitch sweeps and fabulous digital audio sickness. Big knob for the sweeps, little knob next to it sets the maximum pitch.......

26 x BOLTBAY, allows access to all the safe sounds (this machine does NOT crash). Also useful for cross-modulating other 'bent gear (see my other HR-16 vid - cross-modulating a casio sk-5).

Oh yea - also 41 GREEN and RED LED's, which flash in time with the drum beat, and indicate which bends are active..... Flashing light circuit can also be used for external sequencing of other 'triggered' gear."

Eric Whitacre - Lux Aurumque (RAC Analog Synthesizer Version)

YouTube via andreanjos | Mar 1, 2011 |

"Companion piece to the Clair de Lune version I posted earlier.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHP9LA... [posted here]

It's by far one of my favorite choral compositions and it's a little bit difficult to re-create certain vocal expressions on a synthesizer, but I tried.

This one is all minimoog model D. Listen with headphones for extra detail."

SimpleMidiPad & More

via Analog Industries where you'll find the full post. The interesting bit:

On the surface it's a simple MIDI pad controller for the iPad. There are a number of apps that can do this, but...

"Assuming it is approved and those of you that try it provide some good feedback, I'll adjust the framework accordingly and bang out a couple of the other simple ideas I have. Then we'll give porting the Axon sequencer a whirl, which is necessarily a much more involved process. If you have a request for a specific MIDI generator for the iPad, now is the time to bring it up."

Now an Axon sequencer on the iPad, well, that would be very, very cool. Until then, any simple sequencing features would be more than welcome.

New iPad gets announced tomorrow BTW. It will be interesting to see if it has an impact on the used market for soon to be last gen iPads.

The vOICe - Video to Audio - Seeing With Sound

Brian writes in with the following:
"I came across this program while searching for a PC version of Metasynth. It can use either live video or a picture and converts it to sound. Lots of experimental stuff too - using the mouse position as input, sonifying a URL (?!), and much more. Very cool!...

It actually uses images (either video or still pictures) to generate sound. I've attached an AVI illustrating what was generated from a wolf picture. You can apply a filter for what colors to use - kind of a spectrogram ran backwards. Speaking of, I attached another AVI illustrating what a spectorgram (made in Audacity) of me saying "funky town" sounds like after running it through vOICe. There's even a mode for entrainment of brain waves (must register to use that mode)!" Videos below.

via http://www.seeingwithsound.com/
"The vOICe vision technology for the totally blind offers the experience of live camera views through sophisticated image-to-sound renderings. In theory this use of digital senses could lead to synthetic vision with truly visual sensations ("qualia") through crossmodal sensory integration, by exploiting the existing multisensory processing and neural plasticity of the human brain through training and education. The vOICe implements a form of sensory substitution where the goal is to bind visual input to visual qualia with a minimum of training time and effort, and improve quality of life (QoL) for blind users."

Update via Brian in the comments: "I tried to sonify the Matrixsynth page URL, but I got an error of "Too many links" :)"
