Eurostep Jam #2

Eurostep Jam #2 from cv slime 800 on Vimeo.

"'Eurostep' was probably only intended to be a jokey genre title. A few people have made use of it in videos or mp3s posted on the muffwiggler forum. Basically, I take it to mean current trends in dance music (most notably dubstep) interpreted on Eurorack modular synth (well, it wouldn't have to be Eurorack format in particular but you get the idea) rather than using software like Ableton Live or whatever else. I like this idea though, so I am going to run with it as an actual genre. Join in.

As far as the patch goes, each sound went through individual channels of the Make Noise QMMG and were mixed together into the various inputs of the Elby Designs CGS735 Synthacon filter.

A droning root note from the Harvestman Piston Honda was sent into the audio input of the Cwejman VM-1 Voice module. A random noise voltage was being quantized by the Doepfer A-156 Dual Quantizer to the notes of a minor 7 chord for the VM-1 CV input. The droning audio input is then mixed in with the VM-1 internal Oscilator creating duophonic chordal basslines."

DIN sync from the ES-4

YouTube Uploaded by expertsleepers on Jul 28, 2011

"This video shows how the Expert Sleepers ES-4 SPDIF/CV module can also be used to send DIN sync, via a simple cable adaptor and using features of Expert Sleepers' Silent Way software.

Because the DIN sync is being sent via an audio interface, it is sample-accurate with the audio.

"lightbounce. generative. physics. electronica.

refmatrix generates midi notes when the ball hits an obstacle or wall. renoise sends the midi signals to the plugins, effects, and sounds. grid 1 is assigned to a filtered rhodes soundfont, grid 2 to lo-fi drumkit samples. copious amounts of reverb and calf vintage delay are layered over the instruments and tweaked throughout the track, using the nanokontrol.

ioflow + weldroid: light showers (electrified) from ioflow on Vimeo.

"this was originally a short solo piano improvisation i made one night:

soundcloud.com/ioflow/20110331-1

weldroid (weldroid.net) liked it enough to share with me his vision of the track, which was considerably re-amped and synth-fuzzed, and he gave my sketch a title: "light showers," which conjured up all kinds of awesome imagery. i liked his interpretation of the material enough to modify his stems, and then perform my modified version live, unrehearsed. it's even beatier and volt-warped than weldroid's arrangement, thus: "electrified."

ioflow > weldroid > ioflow > your eyes+ears

i used rove (docs.monome.org/doku.php?id=app:rove) to perform this piece, on two monome 128s, which were joined into a single virtual 256 by griddle (github.com/artfwo/griddle). the top grid is my older secondhand kit-built 128, while the bottom grid is my new grayscale 128. its leds are actually very white; the camera gives them a pleasant blue tint.

the audio is available on soundcloud:
