MacBeth Vortex in the Making

Pics via Ken MacBeth on Facebook

Top: "I just etched the Jackfield PCB for the Mk1 Vortex proto #8- it takes a nice picture! Now to drill the darned thing!"

2nd: "This photo shows the 8th prototype in the micromac/Mk1 VORTEX unit- no rotaries fitted- but this is the essential sound engine that I intend to try out shortly. It is the 'cleaned up' version of prototype #7 that you may have seen demonstrated in videos that I did!n Please see other pic for Filter/VCA detail!"

3rd: "An important part of the VORTEX tone and character come from the filter and VCA- the USE of a selected CA3046, BC549Cs and a CA3080 based VCA make this synth have the character of the Multimoog/Source like sound"

bottom: "Here's a pic, front and rear, of the Mk1 Vortex Jackfield (prototype)- things finalize tommorow for the whole unit!"

The MacBeth Green Hornet

via Ken MacBeth on Facebook

"Back in 2002/2003 I worked hard on 2 prototypes of what back then I wanted to call the 'Green Hornet'- both were disasterous EDP Wasp copies with added features, neither would work properly- so that got binned! I came across the prototype in my stores cupboard- in my prototype graveyard! See the othe pic for the logos that got drawn in copper on the back!..

I realised after proto #2 that Chris Huggate was a *feindish* designer! And I also began to realise that *historically* broken Wasps sent back for repair hit the EDP graveyard!..

the keyboard logic was pretty impossible to fire up correctly- I spent at least a couple of months trying to make proto # 1 work- then I hit the second. I won't be going back to these designs- the touch keyboard that I developed myself is a pure analogue design that appears very reliable but uses expensive relay switches. The wasp is digital and works in a very different way..!"

Roland V Synth GT Elastic Audio Synthesizer

via this auction

SN ZW11219

"Roland's original V-Synth set a high standard for expressive synthesis and sound design, and all of that power is distilled into the V-Synth GT. This completely modern and unique instrument injects the V-Synth's famous Elastic Audio Synthesis engine with revolutionary Articulative Phrase Synthesis technology for unprecedented expression and realism as well as unlimited sound design potential.

Multi-core synthesis By integrating a dual-core V-Synth engine, the V-Synth GT can combine Elastic Audio Synthesis, Vocal Designer technology, and AP-SYNTHESIS in real time. Roland's proprietary VariPhrase technology is also integrated into the V-Synth GT. Together with its analog-modeling engine, External Audio input, and digital sampling architecture, the V-Synth GT provides an incredibly wide and colorful foundation on which to capture, manipulate and create sounds.

AP synthesis The V-Synth GT is the first synthesizer in the world equipped with AP (Articulative Phrase) synthesis. This revolutionary form of modeling recreates the ever-changing behavior, nuance, and sound of an instrument as it's being played. The results are stunningly expressive and realistic, and can be applied to acoustic instrument simulation as well as new, never-before-heard sounds.

Speed programming Serious sound designers will love the complexity and editing depth of the V-Synth GT, but there are many instances where musicians need fresh sounds fast—and that's the beauty of Sound Shaper II. Based on the original Sound Shaper, this enhanced mode lets you choose a sound type, then it brings the most relevant parameters directly to the surface. You'll be creating sounds in seconds!

Futuristic design The V-Synth GT is a top-of-the-line instrument. No corners were cut in creating its futuristic yet friendly layout and design. Front panel features include a color touch-screen with eight universal control knobs and dedicated buttons and sliders to make access faster and easier."
