Schubert - "Ave Maria" (Theremin + Talking Machine)

Published on Nov 30, 2012 by AlKhwarizmi
"I post this so that people don't think I'm no longer playing the theremin! I'm still playing, but lately I didn't have as much time for practice as I'd have liked.

This is an attempt at Schubert's "Ellen's Third Song", or "Ave Maria". My Moog Etherwave theremin goes through an Art Tube MP to the Electro-Harmonix Talking Machine pedal, which changes its voice, then to an Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Plus reverb. The playing could be better - few time for practice lately...

An earlier attempt without the Talking Machine is here:"

Learning the Theremin, week 61: Schubert, "Ave Maria"
Uploaded by AlKhwarizmi on Nov 25, 2011
"Another rendition of Schubert's "Ave Maria" with my Moog Etherwave Plus theremin. The accompaniment track is from a CD by Dowani. I think I've gotten better from the previous one ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IAY50sPNmo ).

I'm using a reverb pedal (but with much less reverb than in that previous video) and a tube EQ pedal."

Hexinverter vcNOIZ Voltage Controlled Noise Oscillator DEMO2

"Here is a rather drawn out recording of me noodling with the hexinverter.net vcNOIZ in my modular system.

Patch used: I am using the main noise output straight from the module. No filter is used. I am then feeding the /4 and /8 sub-frequency outputs through a resonant lowpass filter and mixing all 3 of those signals together. The result is a gnarly, fat textured and fully modulated via CV noise sound you simply cannot get with other modules. I bring in some LFO modulation and manual pitch modulation via the frequency control on the module itself.

Hope you enjoy :)

Module description:

vcNOIZ is a voltage controlled noise oscillator for modular synthesis. It creates crunchy sounds reminiscent of the Commodore 64 and other retro noise sources. It has exponential and linear CV inputs just like a normal VCO and also serves a random gate when clocked either internally or externally.

vcNOIZ is a unique-sounding noise source for your modular that you can build or purchase as a ready-made eurorack module in the not-too-distant future.

Note the preset cards including "Singing Chipmunk". You can see the date on one of the cards back to 1973.

Note this was one of the prototype colors mentioned in this post, before M-Audio settled on the white design. The black one was recently listed here. I'm curious how many of these exists and if M-Audio actual released them. There is no mention of them being prototypes in the listings. The following is the description minus the terms & shipping blurb:

"Up for sale is a M-Audio Venom S Virtual Analog Synthesizer. We do not have the appropriate power supply to test this item. For this reason, it will be sold for parts/repair. This keyboard/synthesizer does have some wear with some stray marks, scuffs, scratches, and dry tape residue from tape/stickers that were removed etc. Please refer to the pictures to see exactly what this item is and the condition that it comes in."
