Octatrack: samples and FX
OP-1: Melodic sounds and radio samples (then sampled into the octatrack)
"A Hauntology track juxtaposing archival footage of the attempted military coup on February 23, 1981 in Spain (commonly referred to as 23-F) and a decontextualized radio snippet from earlier this year from an interview about the issue of Catalan independence
Right as Spain was on the cusp of confirming new Prime Minister Calvo-Sotelo, a group of 200 Guardia Civil assaulted the Spanish parliament in session led by Antonio Tejero who brandished a pistol and fired several shots in the air to subdue protests from Vice President Gutierréz Mellado. Pedro Martin, camera operator for spanish television, left the camera running capturing riveting images of the event.
The coup failed after a night's stand off (during that time parliament was held hostage), the king made an announcement appealing to calm and the respect of the constitution (reading between lines it meant he did not support the coup). However the brains behind the 23-F has never been identified and is only known as The White Elephant, several theories exist as to his/her identity."

Synth Spotting with Chromeo Coachella 2014
Published on Apr 11, 2014 buriedvoid·22 videos
Update: video is gone but screen grabs are below.
"Full performance from Chromeo at the 2014 Coachella Music and Arts Festival, enjoy!"
This one in via Simo. Cool to see a fully patched synthesizers.com format modular on stage. White Moog Voyager as well.
Update: some screen grabs via Kurt Stenzel on Facebook. Lots of custom chrome synths including a KORG MS20, Roland SH-101, I believe a Nord Electro and another Nord with two pitch wheels which I can't place at the moment. Not the leads, modular, stage or electro. What's left?
It looks like a Nord Modular G2 with the four screens, but with an extra octave and horizontal pitch and mod wheels.
Update2: the answer is in the comments of this post. They might be the ones in this post from back in 2011. Funny how you forget things...
Update3: and the full flickr set from CustomSynth here.

An Interview with Davide Mancini of soundmachines

On the creation of soundmachines:
"Hi Davide, could you tell us a few words about the genesis of Soundmachines and the link with SPES ?
Hi Wilfried, thank you very much for the opportunity to tell our story and aspirations!
In 2009 I started playing with modular synthesizers, and in my spare time at home I interfaced ad Arduino to a Babblebot chip and made it into a module.
I was just enjoying myself doing some videos on YT and suddenly several people started asking me if the module would be put on the market, somehow.
I had those requests on the backburner for some years but never forget about it! In the meantime I was more and more involved in the modular ‘world’ and, as many of us, loosing a lot of nighttime surfing Matrixsynth, Muff Wiggler and other bad places..
in 2012 I started to think about entering the market from the inside of my company, SPES.
I am the chief innovation officer at SPES, an 80 people research and development (and production management) company based in central Italy. We work on many stuff including household appliances, fitness equipment, motor control, industrial automation, domotics, wearable systems, sensors and plant remote management all over Europe.
I took some time to make a rough business plan and I presented it to the co-founders of the company and we decided to put resources and money in this ‘adventure’. For our company, that tipically works as an OEM, this was big news and many new things to approach! The project was innovative in many ways: a product imagined, developed and built integrally by our own, a direct relationship to the final users, an e-commerce site, a global market etc…
Obviously the most part of the company was already there, purchasing, administration, logistics and obvioulsy design, but many new things have been addressed in the last months…. It was exciting and challenging!!!
So, soundmachines was born as a brand of SPES, and we started operations at the end of July 2013. We are VERY young !!"
