Doepfer A101-1 Vactrol Multitype Filter Review

Published on Aug 31, 2014 SoloStuff

"I wanted to do this for a while. The thing about the A101-1 is that it can be aggressive and easy. Vactrols are known for their non-distorting response, combined with the Steiner design kinda gives a more tamable beast.

Also, Vactrols behavior is not always precisely predictable because of tolerances in each. Doepfer says:

"mechanical and electrical tolerances cause that each vactrol will behave a bit different (e.g. because of the differences in alignement and distance between LED and LDR, different brightness of the LEDs at the same current)"

This effectively means that A101-1 modules can sound slightly different than each other no matter what calibration is done.."

X1L3 - Circuit bent - synth mod - casio PT10

Published on Aug 31, 2014 manufacturedZ3R0

"Compact synth modification of a casio pt10.

Doing the bass, melody and filter cutoff with only two hands and on mini keys isn't the easiest of things to do but there's a little bit of nine inch nails 'me i'm not' with the teenage op1 loaded with a kick drum and snare sample and some pt percussion with pitch, adsr and cow treatment to get things moving. Then onto various sounds with the cv input and a sequential circuits pro1 modulating the filter. Back to the op1 loaded up with bass and percussive samples from the pt under pinning filtered pads and finally some power electronix noise with the delay. Over driven delay loops with low pass drones and high pass filtered frequencies bleeding through into the noise.."

"You have your 16 real analog filters, you have your 100 voices, you have you latest OS, you have 3 oscillators plus other stuff, plus 2 filters in series or parallel or some of each, you have your on-board effects, you have an arpeggiator and sequencer, and if you pay attention to the pictures, you'll see you have your external inputs.

Routing some other synth through the Q+ Phoenix's analog filters opens up a whole new world of sonic possibilities.

Look, everybody always asks -- do the analog filters make a difference or is the regular Q good enough? The answer is -- they do make a difference.

So, you regular Q owners, do this -- buy the Q+ Phoenix, compare it side by side with your Q, once you hear the difference, sell your Q and you'll end up paying very little for the upgrade in sonics. Plus, if you have a standard 16 or 32 voice Q, the Q+ Phoenix has 100 voices.

This Q+ Phoenix is in great shape and has been a solid performer. No dropouts, lockup, or other weirdness that has been randomly reported around the net. I'm sure the latest OS and being a fairly late build helps."

Rare Vintage Prototype Moog Minitmoog Number 001

"There is only one of these..this is a Prototype, number 001 of the minitmoog Synthesizer. I bought this about a year ago from the son of an employee of Moog who worked directly with Bob Moog in Buffalo, NY back in the 60's and 70's. This is really a special item..

I even have the service Manual , owners manual and extra paper with corrections or actually updates to calibrating procedures..if this doesn't sell, I am going to make copies of this stuff becasue no one else has this..

I do not know how to text it..I do notice that some of the plastic by the slide levers is broken off or missing..I haven't plugged it in..the son I bought it from said it worked...IDK..from what I read, I can do more damage turning it on..if you have any insights to this...please let me know."
