Arturia Minibrute SE & Korg Volca Keys

Published on Dec 12, 2014 DreamsOfWires

"Arturia Minibrute - arpeggio and improvised melody
Volca Keys - pads and bass
A simple arp made from a sequence on the Minibrute, then random notes from a chord played by hand over the top. Pad sections were made with the Volca Keys in polyphonic mode, using a midi keyboard to play it."

Braids percussive models

Braids percussive models from mutable instruments on Vimeo.

"Playing with Braids' new percussive models:

KICK: 808 bass drum model (V/Oct pitch control, TIMBRE = decay, COLOR = tone).
SNAR: 808 snare drum model (V/Oct pitch control, TIMBRE = resonators 1 & 2 balance, COLOR = "snappy" and decay boost).
CYMB: LFSR and 808 cymbal noise source (2 V/Oct pitch control, TIMBRE = BPF/HPF sweep, COLOR = cymbal drone vs LFSR balance).

Then "sequencing" the sounds with META mode. The sequence sounds funny because of the lack of V/Oct CV modulation - so all instruments get tuned outside of their natural-sounding zone (according to 808 standards) - kick is too high, snare is OK-ish, cymbal is lowww..."

Published on Dec 15, 2014 Stephen Hummel

"The fourth video in the live, in-studio performance series from subtractiveLAD/Stephen Hummel.

This is a hypnotic/minimalist piece based on repetition, harmonic experimentation, distortion and extreme tempo variation.

All modulations are performed in real time and the tempo shifts are performed manually on the MPC Studio hardware.

Synths featured:

Arturia Minibrute
DSI Evolver
Moog Minitaur

Hardware effects:

Yamaha R100 (vintage reverb/delay)"

Linnstrument with chipspeech

Published on Dec 15, 2014 PatchArena

"The first few days with the Linnstrument have been very fun! Here is a quick excerpt of the Linnstrument playing Plogue chipspeech. The amount of expression and control is amazing. It is really intuitive to create natural sounding vibratos.

"Artist, DJ, actor, genre building producer. Whatever title you give to Goldie, it never quite seems to do him justice. We went to see the man himself on a break from working with his latest protégées Ulterior Motive, to have a chat about his two new best friends. The Roland TR-8 and TB-3."

FM4 is a four operator FM synthesizer for iPad. Modelled on the popular DX series from the 1980s FM4 provides the same gritty sound, with a modern interface, and without being bound by the limitations of the original units.

Every aspect of the hardware — from envelope curves to sine-table sizes and quantisation errors to digital-to-analogue converters — has been meticulously analysed, in order to recreate the raw and dirty sound of the original units.

The interface of FM4 has been carefully thought-out and is simple and intuitive, yet powerful — with every parameter being available on a single page. No menus, tabs, or jumping from page to page.

FM4 is capable of producing a multitude of sounds, ranging from punchy basses, crystal-clear bells, and lush pads, to organic textures, striking drums, and piercing leads."
