Roland System 1M Ver. 1.20 Update Additional Waveforms
Published on May 22, 2015 zibbybone
"One of the things that sold me on buying the Sys1M was the 1.20 update for the Sys1 keyboard synth with its additional waveforms. I was a bit disappointed when I received the Sys1M and learned the 1.20 update for the Sys1 keyboard was not compatible with the module. Fortunately, Roland released the update only 2 weeks after the module became available. Version 1.20 also expands the patch memory from 8 patches to 64 (8 banks of 8 patch slots). So here are more goodies you get to enjoy with the System 1M!"
A.S. rs150 Sequential Switch waveform selector
Published on May 22, 2015 bigcitymusic
"The rs150 Sequential Switch is very useful for creatively directing multiple sources to a single output. In this patch multiple waveforms from a single multi-waveform output oscillator are input into the rs150. A signal present in the ‘CLOCK IN’ input will sequentially step through the rs150 inputs. The rs150 enables each note of the sequence to select a unique waveform from the multi-waveform output oscillator which is processed differently."

"This is a very rare Hohner S4 string synthesizer. I have found no information about this item anywhere. Is it a prototype? I don't know. I do know its a cool paraphonic divide-down synthesizer with "cello" and "strings" sections. Two release modes, fast decay and slow decay. Three octave select buttons. Here is the sound. I am guessing it was manufactured in the mid-to-late 1970s. It operates like it should. Cosmetically, it looks fair for an instrument that has obviously been gigged. The tear in the tole on one of the close-ups has been glued. I will ship carefully, in two boxes, as it has a heavy, boat anchor style power supply with a volume pedal. Here's the only audio sample I have of it. Sorry, its half-way in. https://soundcloud.com/isopod/isobot-1wip"

Korg Wavestation SR Synthesizer Demo Songs
Published on May 22, 2015 Sound Programming
"Factory demo songs from the Korg Wavestation SR rackmount synthesizer recorded direct with no effects.
The Wavestation SR was the last and most advanced synthesizer in Korg's Wavestation series. It had the expanded 4MB ROM (484 waveforms) found in the Wavestation EX and A/D and contained more patches, patch memories, wave sequences, and sequence step memory than the previous models.
The Wavestation SR lacks a vector joystick and needs an external controller to take full advantage of its abilities. It pairs nicely with a Yamaha vector synthesizer, such as the SY22, SY35, or TG33 and can be controlled with the MIDI joystick data transmitted by those devices.
Song list:
1. Funkafire! (0:02)
2. WaveShift (1:35)
3. Dire Rain (3:40)
4. ElectroFunk (5:37)

via The Bob Moog Foundation

On this very special week leading up to Bob's birthday, we are delving into some of the fascinating archival material donated to us by Bob's longtime friend and colleague, David VanKoevering.
These materials, part of the VanKoevering Collection within the Bob Moog Foundation Archives, give new insight into David's unparalleled ability to market little understood instruments as well as his role conceptualizing new instruments with Bob.
Read the entire blog, which incorporates interview material with David, and feast your eyes on several never before seen documents here."
DIY Workshops at METRIX CREATE:SPACE Seattle
METRIX CREATE:SPACE in Seattle, WA, is a maker space for people interested in all forms of DIY. They have all the resources and tools you need including 3D printers. They also have a number of workshops scheduled throughout the year. Their latest is a Light Sensitive Theremin Edition workshop:
"Hey! We've got an exciting series of workshops put together by resident engineer and awesome instructor Morgan Redfield. It's the Light Sensitive Theremin Edition: in three parts!
First up of the series is Intro to Schematic Design. Morgan will guide you through making electronics schematics, which is the first step in both properly documenting and moving from the breadboard to custom made circuit boards. You'll learn how to do this on Upverter, a cloud-engineering platform for hardware design. This is a great chance to ask specific questions about using this platform and discuss how to plan and go about designing your schematic.
Next up is Intro to PCB Design-- you will learn to turn the light sensitive theremin schematic into a circuit board! You will be guided through layout, finding parts and exporting a file that is ready for manufacturing. Fear this step no more, as you will learn to avoid common mistakes and ask an experienced engineer some specific advice that might help your future board-designing self.
The last in the series is Intro to Surface Mount Soldering. Have you become an expert with through-hole soldering and are ready to move further? Surface mount soldering is a powerful skill, you enter the world of tiny components which are used in most devices today. You will learn hands on how to populate and solder an SMD circuit board and go home confident that you have a working board.
You can read up more or sign up for these workshops on our Calendar or Buy & Learn page. You can always email, call, or stop in with questions!"
