Novation Circuit controlling a Drum rack in Ableton - CALC-

"A little experiment using the internal sequencer from Circuit to control a drum rack in Ableton Live. Live Lite is in the box and the samples used are from the Novation Loopmasters sample pack. Circuit is connected to Ableton via USB.
In this test Ableton is only acting as an additional sound source for Circuit's sequencer.

Set the Drum rack channel to receive on Channel 10 (drum sequencer Channel on Circuit) and place your samples on to notes C3,D3, E3 and F3 to match Drums 1 through to 4. I also mapped some of the controls in the Drum rack's Simpler instrument.

With mapping Circuit can also be an excellent addition to an Ableton Live set-up and can also make full use of it's fine sequencer and scales modes.

To balance between the volumes in Ableton and Circuit just use Circuit's Mixer.

This was a first experiment... musically I don't think it's fantastic but it proves the concept. As always it's much better to listen to on a set of headphones or monitors rather than a laptop or phone speaker.

Quirky Beat on the Dam Drum 3.0 from Stones Throw & Bleep Labs

Published on Oct 20, 2015 djhombre

"A little late night mess about with the Dam Drum 3 while nothing was on TV.

I'd forgotten how tricky it was to get these patterns to line up, I have a feeling that a couple of the buttons start their sequences on different beats...adding to the random nature of whatever happens with the unit!

While I enjoy playing with the Dam Drum, it is very difficult to get a recording onto youtube that doesn't sound bad - I think Youtube compression gets a little over-eager with the 8bit grunginess of the unit."
