Bela: an embedded platform for audio and sensor processing

Published on Mar 7, 2016 Bela Platform

"An introduction to Bela. This video accompanies our Kickstarter campaign which will be on until April 1st 2016."

This one is in via MATRIXSYNTH reader Giulio who is on the Bela team.

"The most important unique feature of Bela is that it has extremely low latency of less than 1 millisecond from action to sound. This is much lower than can be achieved on any laptop or embedded computer on the market. Low latency is critically important for making intuitive and responsive musical instruments.

Other notable features include 16-bit analog inputs and outputs (8 each), onboard speaker amplifiers and a browser-based IDE (complete with oscilloscope). The project is open source hardware and software. This is basically the platform we've always wanted for building interactive audio systems, and we're excited to share it with a broader community of musicians, engineers and makers!

Bela is currently on Kickstarter where we greatly exceeded our initial goal, so much that we added new features to the board. Extended blog posts, tech specs, faqs and more examples at our website http://bela.io"

Make Noise Tempi Rotating Hi Hats (annotations) [quick tutorial]

Published on Mar 4, 2016 Stingray

"Short tutorial of Tempi eurorack module self rotating different multiplications in a common rhythmic/musical fashion.

Tempi CH1 output triggers the MOD.

Tempi channels 3,4,5 and 6 have different timing and have been activated to 'MOD' via single push PGM B and the CH buttons are set to to PURPLE.

MOD is set to rotate clockwise [default]. To change direction double tap PGM B and push CH4 [Red=CW, Blue= CCW, Purple = Random].

Sending the output of Tempi channel 6 to the second Mutable Instruments Peaks input on the drum setting, set to hi hat, output of hi hat goes into Intellijel Mutamix mixer and out through a dry Mutable Instruments Clouds (because of stereo output for the video is easier)."

XY Pad and the Delta Change Detector Module

Published on Mar 9, 2016 Bimini Road

Get Audulus for: iOS | Mac | Windows/Linux

"This patch is driven by feedbacking Flipflop sequencers that are triggered by changes detected in the coordinates of the XY module. The whole patch is kept in time by one saw LFO. Several K!SS Drum modules provide the voice of the patch. Control Signal loopers and a triangle LFO animate the patch further. The Spline Envelope module adds a percussive attack. Each drum is hooked into delays, which fill out the sonic field and add a further layer of polyrhythm."
