Lyra-8 by SOMA synths - First Impressions

Published on Sep 26, 2017 martinjazz78

"Warning: audio track of this video contains very rich harmonic content. It makes no sense to listen to this without good speakers or good headphones. If you are using headphones, please be very careful about the volume level and expect everything to get even worse for your ears towards the end of the video.

These are my very first moments with the one and only Lyra-8 by SOMA synths. Although I am very far from only lightly mastering this mighty instrument, I have to say it's absolutely awesome and incredibly inspiring synth and I am totally woved by the sounds Lyra produces.

For the one interested in logistic details, I got on the waiting list in August last year, so I waited 13 months for my Lyra. My unit was assembled in Poland and I have to say the quality of their is absolutely impeccable and absolutely professional.

Regarding this short video, Lyra-8 plays together with Polivoks Pro (modern reissue of classic Soviet synthesizer). This was of course the must first thing to put these two synths together. Both synths are processed through Strymon Big Sky for reverb. I didn't plan any filming and recording tonight, so camera is my cell phone only. Sound is stereo output from my Motu interface into Ableton Live. Video was edited in Final Cut.

Enjoy and mind your ears ;)"

Novation Circuit v1.6 Update Adds Panning, Dimming, Micro Steps, and More

Published on Sep 26, 2017 NovationTV

Circuit v1.6 is available to download from Components.

via Novation:

"We've created the Circuit v1.6 firmware update using most-requested features, bringing the community’s imagining of the Circuit sequencer, synth and sampler to life.

Our users are awesome, they're always coming up with new ideas. Using the most requested features of the Circuit Owners group and other websites, we bring the community’s imagining of the Circuit sequencer, synth and sampler to life. Circuit v1.6 is the latest firmware update that we've created.

We knew how much people wanted to pan on Circuit, so we listened to our users, and our engineers did everything they could to make it happen. Panning has been the single most requested feature of the community to date. It enables users to create audio landscapes or integrate with their favourite hardware.

While users are making the best of Circuit with music-making, we're pushing boundaries within Novation HQ. From this came Drum Micro Steps. Using Drum Micro Steps as a beat-building tool, Circuit v1.6 adds instant fills and stutter effects to users’ workflows, retriggering a sample up to six times within each step. J Dilla fans should probably board here.

Is Circuit’s brightness intruding when the room darkens? Light Dim will help to set the mood for all sorts of romantic occasions with its brightness setting. The features above are accompanied by FX Mute, which can be used to mute any unwanted FX, making it easier to connect with external hardware processors."

Inventions for 3u 104hp Eurorack II

A new release from supporting MATRIXSYNTH Member, Ian Richter. His previous release was featured here.

"my journey into modular synthesis has taken me through another interesting waypoint. there's something about the tactile wires-out rawness of this interface that i can connect to. i manipulate intuitively, i move functionally, i think expressively.

though the eurorack system i own is extremely limited in its capabilities, the more i am forced into corners, the more i enjoy the results. minimal square waves that drone unforgivingly; sine waves that beep along like a morse code machine stuck on a single letter; it's a gas.

this ep, "inventions for 3u 104hp eurorack" was not planned, just like the synth patches that make up its tracks. i found it fitting to place it in series after the previous eurorack album, mainly because of the ambience and approach that was used within the creative process.

You can keep track of Ian Richter on Facebook.
