Can You Use The Data Slider On The ESQ-1 To Control The Filter?

Published on Jul 26, 2018 The Daydream Sound

"Can the data slider on the Ensoniq ESQ-1 synthesizer be used as continuous or real-time controller that can modulate the analog filter? That’s what were going to look after in this video. Using the ESQ-1’s sequencer we’re going to find a work around for using the data slider as a creative tool."

1. Nord Lead A1- Patches 1 to 33 - Reflections Vol 1 - www.geosynths.com
"Sorry about the Flashing lights - So, I had an A1 not long after they came out, but due to lack of room in my old Room, it was always in the way, so ended up leaning up against the Wall, so I sold it.

Recently got hold of one again and have made 100 Patches and 50 Performance Presets as well. All have been made from the front panel from scratch and not using the Mutator/Randomizer.

Pads, Strings, Leads etc. Performances are layers and splits from the Patches, but also new 3 or 4 Oscillator Sounds.

Here are the first 33 Presets I have made in Patch Mode."
2. Nord Lead A1- Patches 34 to 66 - Reflections Vol 1 - www.geosynths.com

Inside Richard Fearless’ shipping container studio overlooking the Thames

Published on Jul 26, 2018 FACTmagazine

"The Death In Vegas founder lets us into his studio.

FACT has done many studio tours over the years, but we’ve never seen anything quite like Richard Fearless’ shipping container studio overlooking the River Thames.

Located in east London’s Docklands area, just a short distance from the O2 Arena, the tiny studio houses all the synths Fearless has amassed over his three decades in music, including the vintage gear used on Death In Vegas’s albums and solo material on his label, Drone.

We paid Fearless a visit where he gave us the lowdown on some of his favorite pieces of gear, including Roland’s MC-202 groovebox and the VHF monitoring unit used to record radio chatter for the most recent Death In Vegas album, 2016’s Transmission."

Buchla Music Easel + Strymon Magneto // Further Explorations

Published on Jul 25, 2018 Genshi Media Group

"::| TO HEAR THE FULL RANGE OF FREQUENCIES AND STEREO EFFECTS, A GOOD PAIR OF HEADPHONES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED |::

Further explorations of my Buchla Music Easel going into the Strymon Magneto Four Head dTape Echo Eurorack module (in Echo/Pitch-Shifting mode.) I was attempting to get the Music Easel to sound a bit like a cross between a Carillon and a Calliope! Both oscillators of the Music Easel are being sequenced by the Malekko Heavy Industry Varigate 4+ going through my Buchla-to-Eurorack Converter module, custom made for me by Synovatron. This time I am changing the tempo of the Varigate via a Make Noise Tempi and a Sputnik Selector Sequential Switch. No other effects or processing other than the Magneto (including the Spring Reverb.)"

Devil's Pizzicato :: Sputnik Drone :: Dual Oscillator & Four-Tap Delay and Dual Crossfader

Published on Jul 25, 2018 Mike Thomas

"Mainly the DO and Four-tap delay being modulated by various other Sputnik modules. Reverb is from 2hp Verb.

Patch Notes
==========
The main soundmaker here is the Sputnik Dual Oscillator. It is set up with AM and FM modulation, and its Timbre and Order parameters are modulated by the Fluctuating Random Voltage channels of the West Coast Random Source (WCRS).

The Sputnik DO's final output is sent to the Four-Tap Delay/Dual Crossfader via the Make Noise LxD. Each of the delay's outputs are either fed-back into the extra inputs of the delay's mixer, or fed into a channel of one of the crossfaders. A couple of channels are sent off to the Quad VCF/VCA for filtering before being either fed back in or crossfaded. The filters help to keep the feedback under control (mostly, unless opened wide). The filters are modulated by a couple of channels of the Quad Function and Trigger source, which themselves are modulated by each other and the WCRS. The Crossfaders are modulated by the slewed S&H of the 1U Noise Tools module.

The delay's time CV is being modulated (sometimes) by a channel of the 5-Step voltage source. The modulation is most obvious when I crank up the attenuator on the module.

The delay's FM input is receiving signal from a Sputnik Oscillator's Waveshape output via the Valve Multiplier (VCA), which is modulated itself by Stored Random Voltages from the WCRS. I hand-wiggle this at least once.

The same Oscillator is filtered and sent to the mix as a drone, with the filter modulated by the 1U Intellijel Noise Tools S&H (slewed)."

ScaleBud - AUv3 MIDI Keyboard for iOS

From the maker of ArpBud - Open Source MIDI Sequencer & More for iOS

iTunes: ScaleBud - AUv3 MIDI Keyboard - Cem Olcay

"ScaleBud is a music theory tool for composers, artists and learners. It has more than 40 most popular scales and counting. AUv3 Plugin, Audiobus MIDI Sending/ Filtering and Standalone app included.

It has a very simple, single-view interface that you can choose the scale and key you want to work as well as note or chord mode selector on the left side. Right side lists the scale notes or chords you want to work with. In note mode, you can fastly jump between notes in the scale by selecting them from the list. In chord mode, you can see the triad, 7th, 9th, 11th or 13th chords for each note in the scale. You can jump between them quickly as well, by pressing the chord you want to play from keyboard. Also, in chord mode, you can set the octave you want to play for the chords from left side of the keyboard.

ScaleBud comes with an AUv3 MIDI plugin and standalone versions. You can directly control your iOS, Mac or PC audio apps with CoreMIDI. Just open the settings menu and select the MIDI Out you want to send MIDI to.

ScaleBud also supports Audiobus MIDI Sending and Filtering. You can send MIDI from Audiobus 3 app just like regular CoreMIDI workflow. Also, in Audiobus MIDI Filter mode, you can feed MIDI Input data from your hardware or MIDI app, and ScaleBud filters out the off-scale notes in note mode, or plays the corresponding chord, if any available, for each note, like a chorder, in chord mode.

You can use ScaleBud with Audio Unit version 3 hosts like Audiobus 3, AUM, Cubasis 2, Beat Maker 3, apeMatrix and Sequencism. As an audio unit plugin, it both maps/filters your MIDI Input to the MIDI Output you route, and sends the notes/chords you pressed from its keyboard. In chord mode, you can press any type of chord from the list in order to make chorder generate chords in that type. For example if you press a 7th chord, it will generate 7th chords for each note you send it from your MIDI keyboard.

Also, it has several presets but you can save your custom presets with the supported hosts. So, you can quickly jump between keys, scales and chords you want to work with.

ScaleBud is not an audio app. It just creates or filters MIDI data coming from input and sends them to MIDI output. It does not generate any sound in any mode.
You can always send feedback for bug reports, feature requests or rate the app from the Support section in Settings menu.

Standalone app requires iOS 10.0+
AUv3 plugin requires iOS 11.0+ and a supporting host app.

ScaleBud also offers its core components open sourced on GitHub. Feel free to fork them, send a pull request to make it better, open an issue to share your ideas or give them a star if you like them.
