Moog Grandmother (3 oscillators + Noise)

Published on Jul 30, 2018 3rdStoreyChemist

"A demonstration with the Grandmother patched for 4 sources - Oscillators 1 & 2, the LFO as an oscillator and Noise.

To turn the LFO into an oscillator, patch: KB OUT to RATE IN and WAVE OUT to an input on the mixer (In this case - OSC 2 IN)

To get both oscillators to share an input on the mixer: Both WAVE OUTS to inputs on the MULT and then use one of the available patch points on the MULT to OSC 1 In on the mixer.

Essentially the Grandmother sort of becomes a Minimoog!"

Grandmother is the latest semi-modular analog synth from Moog. There have been increasingly more and more semi modular synths released in recent years and the demand for rewiring synths and interfacing them with other modular gear grows.

In this clip I explore what's special about Moog's Grandmother, and it turns out there's quite a lot there, especially if you look beneath the surface. For example, while the front panel seems to show only two oscillators and one envelope, in reality, Grandmother has three fully functioning volt/octave oscillators (four if you count the self resonating filter), two and even three envelopes, and is capable of being played paraphonically.

All of these and plenty more patching ideas, tips and tricks are explored in this clip

"IK Multimedia UNO Synth - First Look - Live Stream 07/29/2018

Tonight there can be only UNO! That's right, I have received the IK Multimedia UNO synth!. A 2 oscillator, fully analog, monophonic synthesizer. Made in Italy, the design aesthetic is pretty nice! This little synth has a small footprint, is USB or battery powered and packs a 16-step sequencer with 20 automatable parameters, variable wave shaping oscillators (Saw, Triangle and Pulse waveforms), a multimode filter (HP, LP, BP), a Sync Delay audio effect and 5 performance effects, 10 mode, 4-octave arpeggiator.

I have only had the UNO Synth in my hands for a day, and it is a very good value analog synth. There are a good amount of onboard controls and plenty of features to keep your sound design appetite satisfied! For $199.00 USD, I say pick one up and give it a try!"

Broken

"Audio Illustrator James Newman and the James Newman Groove orchestra are pleased to present 'Broken'.

This is a musical portrait of the concept that nothing really works right. and ultimately everything is broken. Everything around us is in a state of decay and on a course of destruction and ruin. The day that we are born is the day that we begin to age and eventually decay, decline, and die.

All that we grasp and hold on to also slips away in decay. Yes, we and everything around us are indeed broken and we all desire a solution to fix the problem.
Romans 8:20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

PS...
One year ago today I was broken, and was in the hospital having quadruple heart bypass surgery to be fixed. Today I celebrate my anniversary with a new song about being broken.

I thank God for all that He has done in my and my family's life and I hope that my music brings you reflective joy.

Thanks and all my best,

James Newman

On the gear: "This is another Pink Floyd-ish type piece using my Behringer model D for all of the synth parts except for the Moog DFAM for the synth drum loop and Sonic Projects "OBX" software clone for an OB styled big gliss at the climax of this piece. I'm also using Native Instruments B4 for the Hammond lines."

Note the listing states, "Aphex Twin made a whole record with this monster (not this exact unit, of course), which has the much-prized Curtis analog oscillator voice and filter chips."

I believe that was the MS800. It was actually listed for sale in August of 2016.
