Hohner Electronium - a vacuum tube synth from the 1950s

Published on Dec 23, 2019 HAINBACH

"In which I demonstrate one of the most beautiful instruments I ever had the pleasure of playing, the Hohner Electronium. Made by Hohner in the 1950s, this vacuum tube synth in Akkordeon form packs a deep bass and a rather poetic midrange. The German avantgarde of the time quickly discovered it, Stockhausen used the Model Pi (piano version), and Harald Boje played a modified version. You can hear it in Stockhausen's Telemusik and certain versions of Spiral.

Thanks to Jeremiah Runnels for this amazing gift!"

"This is the TTSH v1 and includes fixes from the v1 recommendations, also have Gate input with Gatebooster to ensure compatibility with most synths that uses positive gate norm. (By default the ARP2600 or TTSH doesnt work with most part of gate signals, so need this adapter circuit to accept all positive gates signals) Also includes a top quality linear power supply with toroidal transformer. You can connect direct to AC using standard cable. This linear power supply ensure better performance than other standard switching regulators and DC DC converters... With this power supply the sounds improves a lot and is better to save from external laptop bricks used in the default configurations. The TTSH being a clone of a classic analog synth like the ARP 2600 improves a lot using a classic linear power supply!
The power supply can work in 100/110 or 220/240v. At this moment is set for 220/240v but can be changed via internal switch easily so can be set for your AC voltage spec before shipping.

Also for sale with it, the ARP Sequencer clone. Replica from the classic ARP Sequencer 1601. Is a pleasure to work with it, very musical and intuitive. The power Supply can run from 100 to 240v with no problem.

Instruments build by hand using classic thru-hole components. Not SMT parts are used.

The instruments were built 3 years ago. Instruments are used in studio only. Excellent/perfect working condition. Instruments can have some minor marks of use, but shape is very good."

"Just of the shop from a full service, this ARP 2600 sounds and plays incredible. This one is a mid production model with the original pre lawsuit 4012 Moog style ladder filter. Comes with fully serviced 3620 duophonic keyboard. Has the more coveted Accutronics reverb "long" tank and the original power cord.

The original black Tolex is in very good condition with some mild wear as seen in the photographs. The underlying wood cabinets are solid. The original handles and latches look great and function perfectly. The cosmetic condition of the 2600 and the 3620 metal faceplates is excellent as seen in the pics."

"It’s a great sounding analog bass pedal system manufactured in Japan around the same time period that the Taurus 1 and II models were being marketed. It’s a great sounding instrument, giving you the type of sound that brings to mind that crazy fat but expensive Moog Taurus pedal sound. It’s made well, and is a completely 100% pre-midi analogue bass synthsesizer with real time performance controls. The mono bass sounds can range anywhere from being short and muted all the way to being real fat, with that VCA type mono synth sound so familiar with early analog synthesizers. A variety of sounds can be realized with this unit. There are three sections labeled Octave, Effect and Attack. There are 5 control pots above that section which fine tune the sound to the desired rate. There is a master tune knob that changes the pitch to a full half step up or down in either direction. There are also two pots that control overall tone and overall volume. There are two small red colored LEDs that are located above the Octave switches. The “hold” switch also has a corresponding red LED when activated. Both of the 'Attack' switches labeled “percussion” and “Mute” also have red LEDs above them that light when active. In the Effect section, there is a hold button, a sustain button, and an “expand” button. The hold button holds a note until another is depressed. The sustain of the note can be turned on or off, and the sustain length is determined by the sustain rotary pot located on the top row of 5 pots. The 'Expand' button, when selected, really has a dramatic effect on the sound. You immediately get that familiar single oscillator synth type sound so familiar with the mini Moogs and the Taurus pedals of the same time period. if you turn the rotary control knob back and forth while in the expanded mode, the sound is a classic VCF mono sweep! Very 70s!"
