first words ever heard in a feature film - The Jazz Singer; Ain't Heard Nothin' Yet

Published on Jan 4, 2013 Warner Bros. Entertainment

via Boing Boing:

"In 1927, Al Jolson spoke those words in The Jazz Singer, marking the end of the silent film age. (Of course, that film also featured Jolson in blackface which unfortunately was common at the time."

Friday Fun - M-Audio Venom Dreadbox Hypnosis

Published on Mar 20, 2020 sonicstate

"One thing I've found doing these in recent weeks - the process of just playing and improvising really soothes the soul - temporarily perhaps but its still a pleasant oasis. I can thoroughly recommend you try it.

This time I have the old M-Audio Venom an undeniably digital machine from some time ago, and with a pretty unique and angry sound, though it can do mellow too. I paired this up with the Dreadbox Hypnosis - which is a lovely performance FX unit - see our review.

TTMC 158 First Tests

Published on Mar 20, 2020 Todd Barton

"The Tokyo Tape Music Center is coming out with a Dual Sine-Sawtooth Generator Card for the Easel based on the Buchla 158, one of my favorite dual oscillators. This opens up whole new sonic and timbral worlds for the Easel. Here are just snippets of patches I created in just the first two hours upon unpacking this prototype. More formal videos will follow. Enjoy!

It will be available (tba) at http://tokyo-tape-music-center.xyz"

"The synth is booked in for a full overhaul. While this is taking place, the buyer has the option to specify any modifications they may require. The price quoted here is for a fully-overhauled EMS Synthi AKS; there will be an additional charge for modifications or upgrades beyond factory spec. We expect it will be ready by mid-April, though given the current climate this is subject to change."

via this auction

"The ULTIMATE Memorymoog. The upgrade work performed by Lintronics between 2014-2016 (now has at least a year’s lead time and costs about €8000). Vastly superior in terms of ease of use, stability and MIDI implementation. (LAMM v3.2)

Full working order (and totally overhauled as part of the upgrade process a few years ago).

The upgrade developed and performed by Rudi Linhard finally realises the full potential of these instruments with a redesigned operating system, advanced MIDI functions and improved hardware components. The waiting list and lead time for this work is also the stuff of legend, and the cost is in the region of €8000. Read the full spec of the Lintronics upgrade on their site."

Roland MicroComposer MC-4b + CV Interface OP-8 + Digital Cassette Recorder MTR-100 1981

"Same type of sequencer essential to early Depeche Mode, Aphex Twin etc. This has extra memory (upgrading it from a 4 to 4b). Voltage for the MC-4b is 100v, voltage for OP-8 and MTR-100 is 220v and 240v. So a bit of a mixture frustratingly. The MC-4b works perfectly as far as from my use. I haven’t had a chance to use the OP-8 or MTR-100, so selling those more as completist collectors pieces. They may well work perfectly, but I had no need for them practically. I recommend getting a copy of MC-4 hack to work with this too- so you can compose and transfer the data from your computer to this sequencer.

I wonder if you can wear these on your finger tips. They kind of look like finger tips minus nails. That or cigarette filters. Mmm...
