Novation // Synth Snackables: Legowelt - Peak: as a hurdy gurdy

Published on Apr 9, 2020 NovationTV

"Our Synth Snackables series invites you into the studios of talented and knowledgeable artists, and shows you staple tips, elaborate techniques and imaginative approaches for synth patch design.

For our first Synth Snackable session, we spent a day with Dutch artist Legowelt whose vast musical style spans many different worlds – some real, some imagined – and is designed in a unique and captivating way that keeps his listeners enthralled. His wealth of production knowledge and experience have been turned into five quick tips to help you push the boundaries of Peak.

In this video, beginning with the basis of the hurdy gurdy, Legowelt puts Peak into monophonic mode and assigns the fixed note function to play the same note with two oscillators. Now with the third oscillator free to play a higher note, Legowelt shows how you can quickly create a “jolly” medieval drone.

'Of course we can make it much more interesting.' Creating movement with filter envelopes, adding multiple LFO modulation and assigning pitch range to the two oscillators, Legowelt shows you can build on the basic hurdy gurdy to create a deepened historical-inspired melody.

Oberhiem DPX-1 Digital Sample Player SN 761193

"Here is an Oberheim DPX-1 in good used condition. This unit is a digital sample player. It was designed to play disks from the Ensoniq Mirage, E-mu Emulator II, Sequential Prophet 2000, and Prophet 2002. Cosmetically, it is in very nice condition. It has some minor nicks, dings, and scratches that don't affect functionality. This unit includes the power cord, a copy (not original) of the owner's manual, and the cardboard disk drive protector for the 5.25" floppy drive. It does not include any sound disks or other accessories.

This DPX-1 has been partially tested. The unit powers up and all of the buttons appear to function. It responds to MIDI, and I was able to load sounds from an Ensoniq Mirage disk that I had available. The internal "test" sound will also play via MIDI. I was not able to test disks for any of the other instruments that the unit is designed to play because I don't have them. There is a high-pitched hum from the power supply that does not appear to come through the audio output. The light for each of the disk drives illuminates when the drive is accessed."

This one was listed back in 2017 here.

1983 Roland Juno-60 Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer

"Roland Juno-60 from 1983. In excellent cosmetic and working condition, this one has just been serviced with the following:

- Battery adapter installation with new battery
- Factory patch reload
- Full keyboard contact cleaning
- Full calibration

As you can see, the keyboard is in fantastic shape with no missing parts. All the faders, buttons, and knobs function perfectly and silently. This keyboard lived a very gentle, quiet life! Aside from very minor wear from age and storage, there is a small dent on the back of the keyboard that keeps this from being near-mint condition and affects the function in no way. This is easily one of the nicest I've come across in the past 12 months!"
