Retro Mechanical Labs: Beauty Through Pain

video upload by Richard DeHove

"This is a bit rough and I clearly don't know the controls too well. But I'm sure you know the excitement of getting a new bit of gear and hearing things fall out of it even though you're just fumbling about? It seemed a shame to let that pass by, so here it is: early days with the 'Retro Mechanical Labs Hyde Distortion Filter and Electron Fuzz Custom CV Combo' - and yes, that's its actual name. The DB-01 output is split with one side going into the filter and the other into the fuzz. Left and right then go into separate sides of the Boss RV-6 reverb pedal. There's some limiting to avoid bad surprises but otherwise the audio is raw. That means there's some clicks, pops, squeals and grinding. I hope you find as much beauty in this raw mess of pain as I did.

"The Division Department 01/IV drum synthesizer sequenced by an Elektron Digitone.
There are 2 different patterns recorded.
I used also some effects (Chorus, Delay, Reverb, Overdrive) from the Digitone.

Jordan Rudess plays the Syner-V modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

video upload by

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Syner-V. The Syner-V is based on the Digital Keyboards Synergy ii+ with its wide range of unique soundscapes and glassy, metallic tones. Although it did not officially use the term 'FM' due to Yamaha’s trademark, the Synergy did employ the same basic technology of the GS and DX series as well as the Synclavier FM synthesis."

Jordan Rudess plays the OSC-V modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the OSC-V. The OSC-V is based on the Classic analog-filtered digital monosynth sounds of the Oxford Synthesiser Company OSCar, a British classic. Sometimes called the 'British Minimoog,' the OSCar can sound deceptively analog and ultra-fat despite its digital oscillators."

DREADBOX NYMPHES - 4 Custom Patches // NO TALKING // Raw Sounds + Effects

video upload by Lost Clouds (Tom Green Music)

"I've spent a little more time with the Nymphes now and wanted to showcase a few of the patches I've made so far - first without effects, and then with added effects from the Typhon (which I think really help the Nymphes shine).

I've got mixed feelings about the Nymphes, some really interesting features but a few unusual quirks too - let me know if you'd be interested in a review video!

"This particular unit is in an amazing condition. Almost no sign of use. Looks almost like new. I bought it from the first owner and the synth was stored in a very clean and beautiful studio. There’s already plenty of descriptions online about how beautiful sounding and unique is this synth. I asked my tech guy to open it just to check if everything was right and he told me that the synth has never been opened before, he rarely seen such an « untouched » and clean unit. Everything is original, no tricky mods.. velocity is working great, after touch is functional too but we can’t guarantee that it will work flawlessly in the future."
