Superbooth 22: PWM - Malevolent

video upload by sonicstate

"Paul from PWM launched the Malevolent at Superbooth last September, but now the thunderous little synth is in full production and on it's way to a store near you.

Paul also teased his Frankenstein board, a fully working version of what's coming next from PWM, codename: The Creature!

As an addition to the Malevolent's serious looks are new magnetic end cheeks which are available in wood.

PWM Malevolent available now. Price: £579"

Superbooth 22: Soma - Terra

video upload by sonicstate

"Terra is a very organic-looking creation, crafted from wood and metal to fit comfortably to human hands and allow for the subtle expressivity of an accoustic instrument. The core idea is unity of nature and technology.

Under the (wood) hood, lies a 12 voice polyphonic digital synth, but as Vlad tells Gaz, it's a synth that embraces the best side of digital and avoid the worst, with no plasticky sounds here.

Soma Terra availability: the first custom units are becoming available, but production begins at the end of 22

Price: TBA - under 1000 euros for the production model"

Superbooth 22: Finegear - Dirt Magnet

video upload by sonicstate

"First their Dust Collector brought together a collection of analogue effects and noise shapers. Now Fine Gear continue their sonic experimentation with the Dirt Magnet, and it sets the dust flying.

Christian from Fine Gear gave us a view of the prototype Dirt Magnet which is built around a real tape delay with the preamp from the Space Echo, and modulation. On top of that, it gives us and MS-20 VCF, ring mod, crackle and noise sources, all modulatable with 2 digital syncable LFOs with symmetry and offset control, all through a stereo signal path. We also got an early glimpse of the Modmix, a 4 channel modulatable mixer with 2 LFOs and 2 envelope followers and feedback loops for extensive sound experimentation.

Dirt Magnet availability: end of summer. Price: estimated 1000 euros

Modmix availability: next year. Price: TBC"

Superbooth 22: Erica Synths - Syntrx 2

video upload by sonicstate

Peter Zinovieff on the orignal SYNTRX

"Girts showed us the rather lovely Syntrx 2, and showed us round the refined and expanded features.

Building on their experience from the original Syntrx, this incarnation now has more accurate oscillators with octave switches and manual or CV controlled wave shaping, which allows for PWM. There is also a newly designed dual high-pass and low-pass filter allowing for enhanced filtering flexibility. There are digital FX developed in collaboration with Dutch Company 112 Decibel, and the joystick motion is now recordable.

Available: July - August

Syntrx 2 Price: 1800 euros"

Superbooth 22: ASM - Hydrasynth Explorer

video upload by sonicstate

"Ken Flux Pierce gives Gaz, and us a deep tour of the ASM Hydrasynth Explorer.

The Hydrasynth Explorer packs the same lovely-sounding digital synth engine as its bigger sibling, and has a unique smaller semi-weighted keybed with polyphonic aftertouch, which on it's own makes this a very special and rugged little package.

ASM Hydrasynth Explorer available now. Price: 599 USD."

Superbooth 22: Eventide - Misha

video upload by sonicstate

"Tyler from Eventide introduced us to Misha, an interval-based instrument and sequencer.

Misha lets you play live, or create sequences using its 9 interval keys, generating musical ideas which might not have arrived ordinarily. The sequencer can be polyphonic, and has many ways of modifying the sequenced notes, inverting them, randomizing and altering the note order, or changing the scale on the fly. Speaking of scales, Misha has 100 built-in scales ranging from the familiar to the experimental, and it's possible to program your own scales too.

Eventide Misha available: end of summer 22

Price: 599 USD"

See the Eventide label below for more.

Superbooth 22: U-he - Prototype Envelope And Cascade Filter

video upload by sonicstate

"Barely a week old, the prototype U-he envelope is capable of unique envelopes and modulation duties, while the filter is capable of some meaty distortion.

Sebastian talked us through the, as yet unnamed envelope which is actually 3 envelopes: an A, D, Break Point, Slope, S, R envelope reminiscent of synths of the 80s, an A, Hold, R envelope and an A, R envelope. These can all work together producing complex and unusual envelopes. All the faders are CV modulated and the envelopes can be re-triggered turning them into modulation or audio sources.

The filter module is an unusual design using 2 quad VCAs which allow for some extreme filter overdrive.

Price, availability TBC"

Superbooth 22: Plankton Electronics - Zaps

video upload by sonicstate

"Alex from Plankton Electronics gave us a tour of the updated Zaps percussion module.

Zaps is a percussion synth voice designed for creating organic sequences that can mutate over time. Two analogue oscillators with AM and FM modulation play with two envelopes and cross-modulation and individual sounds can be stored into 12 slots in 12 banks. It uses a combination of different techniques like controlled randomness, morphing, and storing (or locking) synth-voice parameters in externally sequenceable CV-controlled slots.

Zaps availability: June 22

Price: 485 euros (pre-order offer) 535 euros when available."

Superbooth 22: Bastl Instruments Pizza

video upload by sonicstate

"Vaclav shared his new Pizza module with us, and it was very tasty indeed.

Pizza is a compact digital oscillator with powerful wave shaping applied to FM synthesis. It's built around 3 internal oscillators - the Main Oscillator, which can be phase modulated (FM) and wave folded, and two modulating oscillators. It allows for CV control and shaping of FM, waveshaping and additive synthesis. Softpop 2 also gets an update, giving it an additional, stable digital oscillator.

Pizza is available to pre-order now. Price: 245.45 euros

Shipping end of May."

Superbooth 22: Erica Synths LXR-2 Drum Module

video upload by sonicstate

"The original LXR-02 digital drum machine with an integrated sequencer by Sonic Potions and Erica Synths, was launched less than a year ago, and now it has assumed a new modular form.

Kodek showed us round the new module, which retains the core interface of the desktop version, but with an essential new ingredient - assignable CV control over the parameters, which expands this already fully-fledged drum machine.

LXR-2 Drum Module Available: this summer

Price: 410 euros"
