Marcus Ryle

Having originally worked for Oberheim in the early 80’s and being Instrumental in the design and development of some classic Oberheim Synths, Marcus Ryle is no stranger to the world of Synthesizers and Electronic Music Equipment. He later went on to co-found “Fast-Forward Designs” who were responsible for some really ground-breaking technology with Alexis, such as ADAT Multi-Track Recorder, Quadra Synth and Effects. Marcus also co-founded Line 6, which developed a whole range of DSP Products for Guitarists, especially the POD range, which were extremely successful and graced many Stages and Studies alike.

Of course, Marcus is very accomplished Synth Player, Sound Designer and Session Musician with a Studio complete with some of the very best Classic Oberheim Synthesizers. Now, we have the honor of chatting to him about the latest Oberheim Product, taking the very best of the OB range into the fantastic OB-X8. We’ll be finding out about his history with Oberheim and others, his Music and of course the OB-X8 Project and beyond…

Minimoog vs Moog One // BASS

"Can the Moog One do bass? I've heard a lot of stuff here and there with people claiming its not up to scratch or doesn't have the full body for big basses...so I deduced to out it up against the King of Bass. Its not a minimoog but does a close approximation. Of course there are differences in all over the place. So it's different, but I wouldn't say it can't play bass.

Made this patch while testing a new single-case configuration of my system. Here are the modules I'm using starting from
the top left:
- Expert Sleepers ES-9
- Instruō/ Divkid øchd
- Plum Audio OCP
- ALM Pam's New Workout with Dusty Clouds alternate black panel
- Malekko Varigate 8+
- Qu-bit Tone
- Qu-bit Bloom
the bottom left:
- Instruō lìon
- Instruō arbhar
- Instruō Lúbadh
- Instruō cruïnn
- Instruō Cš-l
- Passive Mult
1U row just has 2 USB powers for the external (in this case red) lights, and another light that I am not using in this patch, as well as 2 Mosaic Buffed Mults. The rest are various black blank panels.

"Yamaha AN1X is a synthesizer that sounds great after modification. It can easily replace even an analog synthesizer. Every time I manage to extract completely new sounds from it, it never ceases to amaze with its capabilities.
