"This unique Yamaha synthesizer is engineered to authentically recreate the sounds of real instruments without using samples, delivering remarkably natural and accurate tones. This is achieved through Yamaha's proprietary Digital Signal Processing technology, a sophisticated method developed by Yamaha's expert technicians and engineers. This technology creates sounds based on a mathematical model of how instruments produce sound in real life.
Unlike the traditional Sample & Synthesis (S&S) approach, the VL1 generates sound using an internal model of each instrument. This comprehensive model captures the entire behavior of the instrument, enabling the VL1 to produce realistic transitions between notes, not just the notes themselves. The result is an impressively faithful reproduction of real instruments, making the synthetic sounds of an S&S synth seem almost comical by comparison.
The VL1's controls are specifically designed to enhance the "live instrument" experience, with unique effects tailored to whether a wind, string, or analog synth sound is being recreated. For example, when emulating a brass instrument, the modulation wheel alters the virtual embouchure, producing specific tonalities that would typically require a genuine instrument.
