Additional SYNTH CITY Listings

"Recently serviced and tested, everything is in working order. Classic ensemble synth for the 80's that emulates Strings, Organ, and Brass instruments. Its fully polyphonic and has a quite pretty sounding chorus. There are some different filtering capabilities, but not the typical Moog filter you are used. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just different. It was designed by Moog with collaboration from the legendary Herb Deutsch."

"God’s own original vintage Moog Memorymoog analog poly monster in amazing condition!

Fully serviced, recapped, and calibrated, EVERY voice, memory location, and function works flawlessly, tuning and scaling are rock solid and SUPER stable. She sounds absolutely massive. Amazing modulation possibilities, and just the thickest, nastiest, most urgent tone.

Absolute holy grail, end of the rainbow synth. You will not find a finer example."

Massenet's "Meditation from Thais" on Modular Synthesizer

video upload by Biopower Audio

"Here's my stab at the famous violin air from Jules Massenet's 1894 opera, THAIS, using my Biopower Axe & Razor #eurorack #modular #synthesizer ribbon controller.

The ribbon controller is pressure sensitive, which I'm using to control a Plum Audio Jove filter cutoff. Two further pressure points on the stock of the instrument provide an injection of vibrato (both the frequency and amplitude of an LFO to the timbre parameter on a Plaits oscillator) and a pitch bend, mainly to get notes outside the D Major scale, which I quantized. The accompaniment is an emulated Juno 106.

I designed this instrument to bring convenient Rick Wakeman shredding within reach of all synth players -- but it can play sweetly and precisely too!

Available for purchase as built modules and DIY kits at https://www.biopoweraudio.com"

See the Biopower Modular label below for more. It looks like they switched their name from Biopower Modular to Biopower Audio. The Biopower Audio label will be used for future posts, considering.

OB-XOne mkII - Oberhim OBX Expander Module in Custom Rack

video upload by Lackan

"My first version of the OBXone went on to save an Original 4VS OBX. But when I got a Rosen motherboard as part of a trade I thought I'd make a nicer one, 2U rackmount, with double sub oscillators and all the extras."

Looks like an SEM in rack form, but appears to be based an OBX voice board according to the description above. The OB-X filter is based on the 12db Lowpass disctrete SEM filter (it's missing the variable LP -> Notch -> HP knob), while the OB-Xa switched to Curtis based filters.

Also see SUB Oscillator for the Oberheim SEM Module

Cinematic intergalactic - live synth performance with Prophet Rev2, Walrus Qi, piano, strings

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Here, I used the 5-pin MIDI out of the M-Audio Keystation 61 Mk3 to control the Sequential Prophet Rev2, and used the Keystation's USB MIDI out to control a number of plug-ins at the same time. What you're hearing here is a single MIDI line that's being split to multiple instruments that get layered on top of each other. I'm really happy with the final result.

This song was inspired by exploring the Walrus Qi Etherealizer, which is adding granular, reverb, and delay to the Prophet Rev2. Once I had the basic idea on the Rev2, I realized that I could use the Keystation's USB MIDI out to control software instruments at the same time. Mostly what you're hearing are a collection of Spitfire plug-ins (piano, strings, mandolin) being stacked on top of the Rev2, using the same live MIDI data that I'm sending to the Rev2. It's a neat effect.

Thanks for listening.
