"The Casio RZ was one of the first drum machines with a built-in sampler (and the last Casio drum machine of all time). The pop drum sounds of the '80s were made with the LinnDrum 1 or 9000, Simmons or Roland R-8 (later) so Casio stopped production within 2 years.
The ordinary RZ-1 has 12 PCM drum sounds plus a total sampling time of 0.8 s over four pads, which you can divide into 4 x 0.2 s / 2 x 0.4 s or 1 x 0.8 samples.
Sampling resolution is 12 bits with a sampling frequency of 20 kHz. You can direct the sample from a line or microphone (via the switch on the rear), but sample dumping (SDS) via MIDI is not supported. The internal memory holds up to 99 patterns and 20 songs, which can be combined, chained and looped.
With the MT tape interface, you can “dump” and archive internal patterns and samples to tape or MD-Disc, MP3-Stick or simply your sound card on the PC.
The RZ-1 was often used in pre-Techno / House Aera, and the Snare and Clap are still used a lot."

"The Squid Salmple is a powerful 8 channel Eurorack sample player and recorder. In this fourth iteration of the Deep Dive series we take a look multiple techniques for working with break beats including BPM syncing loops, slicing and sequencing and half speed timestretching using the new Pitch parameter.
Patches in this video require at least firmware v188 which introduces the new Pitch parameter that allows sample pitch to be set independently of time. (visit: https://busycircuits.com/alm022 to download the latest firmware).

"A piece created using Max for Live synth @noine-giron NOIwavetableGEN, Rhodes Mark II, and TR-08. Undulating synthesizer sounds combine with rhythm machine beats and electric piano tones.
I build the bass and harmony using Max for Live’s synth NOIwavetableGEN (https://noine.gumroad.com/l/noi-wavet.... The bass is monophonized by narrowing its width with Utility.
The rhythm is played on the TR-08 and processed with reverb and filtering via NIGHTSKY.
On the Rhodes, I apply chorus using the @BOSSinfoglobal CE-5 and delay with @strymon TIMELINE."
