Roland Aira S-1 // A mini SH101 and so much more
video upload by Starsky Carr
"The Roland Aira Compact S-1 uses Roland's Analog Circuit Behaviour (ACB) technology to emulate the classic SH-101 monosynth from the 80s. ... plus a lot more, like 4 voice poly, delay and reverb, wave drawing, fast LFO, MIDI (obvs), poly sequencer with parameter locks, extra LFO shapes, and D-motion.
In this I have a play with a few of the factory sequences to give a feel for its range and play it alongside my vintage SH101 to see how close it gets."

This pristine, Oberheim Matrix-12 synthesizer the subject of our winter 2025 fundraising raffle. It is signed by synthesizer pioneer Tom Oberheim and the Matrix co-creators Marcus Ryle and Michel Doidic. The synth belonged to Doug Curtis, whose Curtis chips were used in its design. It was generously donated by Doug's widow, Mary Curtis.

3/1/25 Buchla 295m 258d 281 292r + JRB VCBF + Magnetic Freak Gaussian + Peavey DDL-3 + CXM 1978
video upload by Cfpp0
"3/1/25 Buchla 295m 258d 281 292r + JRB VCBF + Magnetic Freak Gaussian + Peavey DDL-3 + CXM 1978
In this video, four envelopes on the Buchla 281 quad function generator are providing control voltages and triggers to the Magnetic Freak Gaussian, the Buchla 292r lopass gate, the JRB VCBF bandpass filter, and to the Buchla 258d oscillators. The 258d square is FMing the sawtooth oscillator, which runs through the M.E.M.S. clone of the Buchla 295. Three of the individual band outputs on the 295m are patched into the audio inputs on the 292r, with the 295m mix output patched to the Mackie Onyx 1640 mixer, panned center. The mix output on the 295m is patched to the JRB VCBF, which runs through the Peavey DDL-3 digital delay, with the DDL-3 dry output panned right and the wet output panned left on the Mackie. All of the signals get reverb blended on the CXM 1978."

Serge Filter Tour | Serge Modular | Episode 07 | Res EQ, VCF2, Siegfried, VCFS, VCFX, VCFQ
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"There are currently 1601 filters on ModularGrid. It may be impossible to pick the right one for your case. If we check out the modular pioneers, we'd see Moog's legendary ladder. Buchla only made a rare triple bandpass, Roland and Korg refined far eastcoast synthesis and there are a few exotics like the Wasp and the Polivoks. In this video I want to focus on the Serge filters (eurorack format) which I rediscovered last year. He has five designs with distinct differences. There's the RES EQ fixed filter bank, the VCF2 variable bandwidth with no resonance (?), the VCFS with a variable slope (?) and the highly appreciated VCFQ with variable resonance. A few weeks ago Serge released the VCFX with a 'new gate' on a single panel. It's a simple utility filter on its own, but combined with the gate we'll have a patch programmable LPG. Or a bandpass gate.
I'll be using the Schlappi THREE-BODY as a triple sawtooth voice making a chord. It's a big and nasty sound that could use a filter. It inevitably turned out to be a long video because I had the pleasure to go through five different filters. I tried to keep it fresh and entertaining. Who doesn't love playing the cut-off :)."
Ambient w/ Lyra-8, KORG MS-20, reface DX | Alpine Crescendo 2025-03-02 by atnr
video upload by atnr
"A piece created using the @somasynths Lyra-8, @KORG_INC MS-20, and YAMAHA Reface DX. It's ambient music where a melody and looper sequence melt into a drone.
For the Lyra-8, after some tuning, I set it to HOLD the sound so it resembles chords. Its output is processed with reverb using @gfisys SPECULAR TEMPUS.
The MS-20 is run through @strymon blueSky for reverb, and I occasionally open and close the filter to change its timbre.
The Reface DX loops phrases with its looper while applying filter and reverb via @strymon NIGHTSKY. At the beginning and end of the track, I reduce the dry signal and modulate the filter to blur the sound."
Comparison: Yamaha FB01 vs EssenceFM
video upload by j bowman
"In this sound test video, we compare two iconic FM synthesizers: the Kodamo EssenceFM and the Yamaha FB01. Whether you're a seasoned sound designer or just starting out with FM synthesis, this video offers an in-depth exploration of their unique tones and characteristics. We dive into the FM sound engines of both synthesizers, examining how the Kodamo EssenceFM's advanced features stack up against the more classic approach of the Yamaha FB01.
Discover the power of FM synthesis as we demonstrate how each synthesizer shapes sound through frequency modulation. If you're passionate about synth music and sound design, you'll appreciate this side-by-side comparison of two powerful machines. We’ll showcase a variety of sounds to help you decide which FM synth fits your creative needs.
This video is perfect for musicians, producers, and sound designers who are into FM synths, exploring new FM synthesis gear, or learning how to use the Kodamo EssenceFM and Yamaha FB01 to shape their music."
