"Pladask ROM is the Eurorack sibling of the Stereo Dradd — a reverb that doesn’t simulate real spaces, but invents new ones. Closely related to Pladask's DRAUME pedal. With three algorithms (HALL, FRAME, GRAIN), clock control, random modulation, and stereo unpredictability, ROM excels at turning static sounds into restless, living textures.

If you enjoy experimental sound design, modular weirdness, and reverb that goes beyond realism, ROM is a perfect tool for your rack."

"Now available as a double CD with an 8-page booklet & download

Since the first volume in the Tone Science series was released in 2018, seventy-two musicians in total have joined in with this celebration of the musical possibilities of modular synthesis. Tone Science sub-label, from DiN records, concludes its exploration of the world of modular synth music.

Since the first volume in the Tone Science series was released in 2018, seventy-two musicians in total have joined in with this celebration of the musical possibilities of modular synthesis. These artists have been from a huge range of backgrounds but have all shared the unifying purpose of showcasing the incredible variety of sonic possibilities these instruments can offer.

The intervening seven years have seen the modular synth world expanding at an exponential rate and whilst one wouldn’t go so far as to say these synths are mainstream, they are certainly far more prevalent than in the past. It’s especially gratifying to see so many musicians now either play solo sets with them or to include them in their onstage arsenal.

Thus we come to this, the final instalment in the Tone Science series. Nothing lasts forever and certainly stopping at this nice round number of ten seems like a good way to not only end the series but to release the Final Patch, a real celebration of what has gone before and perhaps to hint at what is possible for the future. A beautifully packaged double CD featuring twenty artists who have appeared on previous iterations of the series, it really is a who’s who of modular synth musicians. The release is accompanied by an eight-page booklet with an essay by Neil Mason and some final words from the guiding force behind the whole project, Ian Boddy, label boss at DiN. And as Boddy so succinctly puts it in his liner notes, “for me, despite the technological nature of the equipment, the emotional quality of the music is the single most important factor”. The Final Patch certainly delivers on that ethos.

DSI Poly Evolver sequencer soundscape with Fractal Audio FM3 for FX

"Yesterday was a good day. Just one of those memorable days that I'll cherish, with some things that I can't talk about, but other things that I can. I played some games with my youngest daughter while my wife picked up our older kid from school. When she came home, she asked me to pull out a loose tooth. I did - blood everywhere. The joy on her face when it came out, and the follow up pain and tears and "Wow this is different" was just exciting to watch. She is growing up and I love being such an integral part of that. It makes me so happy. Then, the three of us played board games for another hour or two while it rained outside.

Honestly, there could not have been a better day.

Oh yeah, and I bought Silksong and started playing that."

WELSON BAND (1976?)

There are quite a few cool machines we've managed to track down after searching for years, but very few have fallen into our laps.
But the Welson Band did just that.
We hadn't even heard of this stunningly beautiful machine at all when we bought it on a Google Alert whim - considering our obsession with auto accompaniment units - that's a rare first.

Acquired for next to nothing we managed to locate a PDF of its schematics - the only trace of this machine on the web - and swiftly failed to understand how one was supposed to control the harmonies of the accompaniments, meaning the bass, chords and arpeggiator.

The back does sport a connector, to hook up a potential bass pedal, accordion or controller keyboard to, but it's marked "Switch Board".
Remember, this was about 10 years before MIDI was invented so this machines for sure needed an external something to decide the key and harmonies.

We had our dear tech Andrea bash together a controller keyboard and it works and looks pretty well apart from being a bit crooked and not triggering all the time.

The video explains everything well so please read the text if you have any questions - in short the machine is fully analog, great drum sounds and the arpeggiator is to die for.

The VINTAGE AUDIO INSTITUTE ITALIA website is pretty much a catalouge of photos and descriptions of cool Italian synths and drum machines so head there : https://www.vintageaudioinstitute.com/"
