Explore the new Sound Edit view, with dedicated parameter pages mapped to AstroLab’s four macro knobs, alongside new sample-based instruments and 60+ stage-ready sounds spanning piano, brass, strings, bass and more."

AstroLab 2.0: It's a Proper Synth Now?

video upload by Sineway

"AstroLab 2.0 goes straight at the biggest criticism of the AstroLab: that it's just a preset player, not a proper synth. The headline feature is Sound Edit, which gives you real synth parameters like envelopes, filter and glide right from the front panel, and you don't need a computer or the V Collection license to use it. So is the AstroLab still just a keyboard full of presets, or is it starting to become something else?

Arturia gave me early access to the update, so I've had time to dig into it before release. In this video I show how Sound Edit changes from preset to preset depending on the engine underneath, revisit the AstroLab vs MiniFreak question now that both instruments have changed, and play some of the presets in a musical context.

Oficina de Sonido Clave: A Fun and Portable Drum Sampler with Euclidean Sequencer

video upload by Limbic Bits

"Clave by Oficina de Sonido is a Euclidean Drum machine, a portable musical instrument with a percussion sequencer based on one-shot samples. Its strenghts lay less in complex and deep sound design but rather in fast results, spontaneity, and lucky accidents. I find it really fun to use and it is a great little device to take on stage or for spontaneous jam sessions."

Your LFO isn’t as boring as you think

video upload by Monotrail Tech Talk

"LFOs are classic synthesis building blocks. But just because your LFO creates classic waveforms, doesn’t meant you have to stick to using those. With a few simple techniques and tools, you can get a lot more creative. In this video I show how to make complex LFO shapes and modulation patterns."

Free Korg NX5R Editor Librarian | Web MIDI Patch Manager

video upload by Ian Dixon

"The Korg NX5R is a very 90s multitimbral sound module, and in this video I demonstrate my free browser-based editor and librarian for it.

The editor runs locally in the browser using Web MIDI, so there is no cloud upload or server-side processing. You can connect to the NX5R, read the user bank, browse factory and user sounds, manage multitimbral parts, edit program parameters, work with filters, envelopes, LFOs, effects sends and oscillators, then save libraries or export SysEx for later.

It is still a beta tool, but it already makes the NX5R much easier to use for sound browsing, patch editing and library management.

Redshift 6 - Acid House

video upload by Supercritical Synthesizers

"In this demo, we create some chill ’90s acid house sounds using the Redshift 6, exploring its different Characters and internal sequencer. All synth sounds come from the Redshift 6, and everything is sequenced using its internal sequencers.

00:00 Intro
00:15 Creating the Pad
02:28 Sequencing the Pad
06:00 Bass synth
08:13 Sequencing the Bass line
10:12 Creating the Acid Synth
11:28 Sequencing the Acid Synth
14:40 Creating the Lead Synth
16:20 Sequencing the Lead Synth
20:05 Polyrhythmic Sequences
21:55 The Demo Jam

Redshift 6 features an analogue 4-pole multimode filter whose behaviour changes depending on the selected Character.

The Characters cover different analogue filter responses:

Liquid – Classic -24 dB filter with a wide sweet spot and smooth, spacey resonance
Crisp – Bright -12 dB State Variable Filter
Fat – Classic -24 dB ladder filter
Mean – Highly unstable -12 dB filter with bad behaviour and distortion
Sour – -18 dB squelchy Silver Box filter

Characters affect the behaviour of the whole synthesizer, including filter response, oscillator drift, and envelope behaviour."

SOLAR42N = HARDCORE DFAM

"A live synthesizer jam performed on the Elta Music Solar 42N, using its own Pulser Sequencer and the Squarp Hapax for sequencing the kick and snare. Enjoy ;)

Alesis A6 soundset demo

video upload by David Bessell

"A Demo of some sounds from a set of 93. Taken from my personal collection, some of these were used in Node and the rest come from my solo albums. No external FX used although most of these would benefit from added FX from better sources than the internal FX which are a bit dated by todays standards. (Think 80's - 90's quality digital FX). If you would like the full set of 93 they are available for a small handling charge of £10. Just mail me at dbssll@aol.com to let me know you want to purchase and send the payment to me at that address on paypal. Once I have payment confirmed at paypal you will receive the file via your email."
