How to make a Morphing Filter with TRACE // DivKid & Vostok Instruments

video upload by DivKid

"Inspired by a comment asking if Trace could take static filter mode outputs (LP, BP, HP etc) and add a CV controllable mode/filter type morphing to those outputs ... here's a video that does just that!

With 4 community favourite filters (thanks to the QOTD in the DivKid Discord) and 4 examples going from smooth filter mode shifts, through rhythmic sequenced filter type changes, creating a unique tone shifting VCA response out of a Wasp filter and going complex and abstract with filter pings for the finest discerning filter ping connoisseurs out there."

Kawai K1m Editor: Edit Patches, Manage SysEx & More

video upload by Ian Dixon

"In this video I show my free Web MIDI editor and librarian for the Kawai K1, K1m and K1r, designed to make it easier to manage patches, build libraries, send sounds to the synth and edit programs from a browser.

The Kawai K1 family is easy enough to program from the front panel, but the limited memory slots make patch management awkward once you start collecting SysEx banks or creating your own sounds. This editor lets you load and save libraries, import SysEx files, remove duplicates, read patches from the K1, send sounds back to the synth, mute individual sources and edit key parameters with a visual envelope display.

Lambda Synthetics Polypulse Algorithmic Performance Workstation SonicLAB Demo

video upload by sonicstate

"‪@matthsmatthsmatths‬ looks at the Lambda Synthetics Polypulse, a powerful Algorithmic Performance Workstation with five tracks. Each track has an algorithmic sequencer, a polyphonic synthesis engine (subtractive, FM, additive, resonator, quad, granular or external), audio effects, and XY morph pads.
Connectivity includes eight outputs, four inputs, MIDI, Ethernet, per-channel pulse outputs and clock in.
The sequencer decouples pattern from pitch, offering four lanes per pattern, up to 24 patterns per track, and a shared note list with per-note chance, slides and rests.
Effects run per track or on a send, and includes a ducker for sidechain compression.

Matt loads samples over Ethernet, sequences a Dreadbox Artemis with MIDI, and maps MIDI CCs to the twelve dials.

Polypulse costs £1777/€1999 and is available now"

"Sound is Colour

Warm. Cold. Dark. Brilliant. Silky. Lush. Juicy. Fat...

Notice something? We use the exact same vocabulary for colours and textures than we use for sounds.

The word 'Klangfarbe' isn't a metaphor. It is how our brain actually processes sound: the true nature of sound is colour.

Your Secret Superpower

Your taste is your secret superpower! Stop asking: "Is this correct? Am I doing this right?" Instead, simply pick and combine sound-colours, place them on the "gradient" and ask yourself: 'Does it sound interesting to me?". This naturally leads you to your own, unique signature sound.

And you can feed it anything: the noisy call of a distant crane recorded with your phone, a vocal snippet or the sound of plugging in your guitar. As one musician said: "I am still trying to find a sample that does not end up as an interesting sound."

Made for Creatives If sound is colour - why are most synths complex, techy, full of numbers, algorithms, and operators?

Abyss II is built on a simple yet radical premise: a synth designed around how we actually experience sound. It keeps you in the flow rather than forcing you into abstract formulas. Just play with colours, as you would mess with paint."

Saul Stokes: Saltar's Point Album Preview (Live Video Sculpture Performance)

video upload by Saul Stokes

"First, a very special thank you to Justin and the team at Resident Electronic Monthly (San Francisco) for capturing this performance. I truly appreciate this team of amazing musicians and artists. This video is an excerpt from my next solo album, which, unfortunately, I don't have a title for yet. I have been writing the music to a video I made up in Steilacoom, Washington, so I have opted to title this Saltar's Point for now. I'm hoping to wrap it up this year. I feel like this album will be quite a jump for me. I don't quite know what I could reference it to. Perhaps a minuscule nod to Enya, or Ray Lynch's Celestial Soda Pop. I am in contact with a local musician/engineer about possibly doing a Dolby Atmos release for this as well as a possible physical release. If you'd like to stay close and hear more about this as I work on completing this album, connect with me on Instagram.

I have been doing more and more video work using the program Touchdesigner. I'm still a novice, but it's incredibly fun to create 'digital things' that in some way feel organic and alive. Thanks again to Resident Monthly. If you're into electronic music and live in the Bay Area, come down to a future performance. They happen on the last Thursday of each Month.

Special thanks to:
