He Built a DIY Sequencer... And It Sounds Like This

"My DIY sequencer is alive! First jams with BOTANICA, my DIY desktop MIDI sequencer. This is Part 2 to my BOTANICA first look video.

6:38 Jam 3

BOTANICA is a desktop hardware sequencer, not a eurorack module. It's a DIY synth and DIY electronics project built for hands-on control over melody, pattern length, probability and transposition. In this video I let it run across 3 full performances so you can hear what it does in a real setup.

Midicake UNA Tutorial

video upload by midicake

See the announcement post here.

"Midicake UNA: the complete tutorial. Everything UNA does, from plugging in to patch chains, in one sitting.

UNA is a hands-on hardware composer for keyboard players. Hold a chord and the band starts: three tracks, Rhythm, Melody and Bass, follow the chords you play in real time, while your other hand stays free to solo. In this video Chris, founder of Midicake, walks through every part of the instrument with a keyboard plugged in: the controls and views, keyboard split and LISTEN, the Melody, Rhythm and Bass tracks, capturing what you play, chord chains, Modulators and patches.

Use the chapters below to jump straight to a topic, and come back to this video as a reference.

Midicake UNA is on sale from 15 October 2026. Early bird launch offer: £399 / $519 / €479 for the first 150 units, taxes included, free shipping. https://www.midicake.com"

Tre Modular - State of Mind Demo

video upload by Tre Modular

"State of Mind is four-channel CV workstation. Four CV outputs, four gate outputs, and a set of engines that move them. Any channel can run any engine, and different channels can run different engines at the same time.

00:16 SEQ (Sequencer)
Steps through eight saved snapshots, each holding all four channel voltages, in any order. Jump, glide or morph between them in eight shapes, from one step every twenty seconds to twenty a second, with swing and four play directions. Each channel has its own clock division, shape, swing, gate pattern and gate length. Scenes save the whole setup; switch them at the end of the loop or chain them into a sequence of sequences.

05:00 RSG (Random State Generator)
A melody generator that ranges from true random voltages, quantized or raw, to structured melodies that play like songs. Four voices, each with its own range, rhythm and melodic figure, playing together in chords, parallel fifths and octaves, held tones, answering lines, or each on its own.

10:19 GEST (Gesture and CV recording)
Records knob movements, and any CV and gate you patch in, as real voltage: 1,000 samples a second, up to 48 seconds per take, negative voltages included. Each channel loops its own recording. Layer them, save the four-channel arrangement to one of eight slots, recall it or chain slots into a sequence.

12:20 EXT (External control)
Lets an external CV, clock or keyboard play State of Mind, in seven ways. Each trigger can step through your snapshots in order, at random, or forwards and backwards with a CV; a voltage can jump straight to a snapshot or sweep smoothly through them all. The channels can also follow an incoming CV directly, or harmonize it. The clock input reads 1, 2, 4 or 24 pulses per step and drives the sequencer and RSG as well.

15:00 QTZ (Quantizer)
State of Mind can turn any channel into notes of a scale. Eight scales and twelve roots, with each channel free to have its own. It works on whatever drives the channel, from snapshots and the sequencer to an incoming CV. 15:22 VCO tuning State of Mind can tune an oscillator to itself. Patch a channel into the oscillator's 1 V/oct input and the oscillators output back into CV IN, and the module measures it note by note across eight octaves in about two minutes. Because every note is measured, it corrects tracking errors as well as offset, so differently mistuned oscillators play in tune with each other.

Synthesizers.com Announces the Q215 DIGITAL REVERB

via Synthesizers.com

Note: Synthesizers.com is happy to announce they are showing off their new design this weekend at the Brooklyn Synth EXPO, October 17-18, 2026.

COMING SOON -- NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER ONLY

The Q215 DIGITAL REVERB from Synthesizers.com.

We are proud to announce that we have added a multi-mode STEREO reverb to our lineup. Featuring detailed reverbs created to work well within a modular setup, this module is sure to add new sounds and textures to your case that are sure to inspire you.

With multiple reverb algorithms, the Q215 can easily fill the role of everything from a subtle spatial enhancer to an intense sonic shaper -- especially if you add modulation to any of the four CV inputs. You may find yourself in some decidedly abstract territory, creating dream-like soundscapes or ambient dub workouts with just a twist of a knob.

We have chosen ease of use over pages of menus. Simply use the Mode button to select the next algorithm. Some are more natural while others are decidedly synthetic.

The Q215 features a wide range of reverb styles, some of which even include period accurate sample rate adjustments to capture the proper tone. (The two Abstract Large Hall algorithms are decidedly dark and gritty -- part of that darkness comes from the 32Khz sample rate for those modes.)

The module puts out a STEREO SIGNAL (though it still sounds great in mono) from a mono input or a stereo input. The module will process all the usual +/-5V signals but can also work with line level signals as well, such as drum machines and synthesizers. The built in GAIN control allows the user to adjust the headroom and can be pushed into slight clipping if so desired.

Musichello and The Story of LepLoop #leploop #musichello

video upload by LepLoop

"In this video, we look back at the story of the LepLoop, inspired by the deep-dive article written by Richie on RackEars exploring the history and philosophy behind our work:

📖 Read the full article: https://www.rackears.io/articles/how-...

The Musichello was the father of the LepLoop. Hand-built inside an old wooden wine box with recycled electronic parts, by Giovanni around 2001, it set everything in motion. We met around 2005\2006 and began developing the LepLoop prototype together, eventually launching the first official version in 2009.

Here, you can listen to a rare archival live performance recording by Giovanni (aka Peppo Lasagna) from around 2007, showcasing the raw, unpolished sonic character of the original Musichello.

Alongside this ~30-minute live improvisation session is a collection of archival photos of both the Musichello and LepLoop, highlighting the early experimental design, circuitry, and hands-on workflow that laid the foundation for the instruments we build today.

Make Noise Plexiphon Deep Dive w/ Tom Erbe

video upload by Perfect Circuit

"The Make Noise x soundhack Plexiphon is an enigmatic effect: it's a stereo / spatial texturizer, designed to take your incoming audio and use it as a seed to create immersive, swirling soundscapes and evolving resonances. You can think of it as being partly like a delay, partly like a reverb, partly like a resonator—but in reality, it isn't squarely any one of these things, instead using their commonalities as a point of departure for exploring unusual sonic terrain.

Of course, it's not the first Make Noise/soundhack collab—it's one in a long line of exciting effects, including the ever-popular Echophon, Erbe-Verb, and Mimeophon. In honor of Plexiphon's release, we invited soundhack's Tom Erbe to our space in Burbank for a live demo and Q&A.

He explained Plexiphon's history, its inner workings, and plenty of ways that you can use it. Scope it out—you might just learn a thing about DSP and the artistry that goes into forward-thinking electronic musical instrument design.
