All my @Sequential & Dave Smith Instruments sequencers playing - a Berlin School theme - on their own internal clock, no MIDI connections between them.

During the recording they loose the timing, but for a nice sounding result I adjusted it a little bit in Logic Pro.

The Prophet REV2 is playing in stack A+B mode - a sequence and a low kick, unfortunately recorded on the main output.

All three synths are capable more of these simple sequence lines: step motion, gate sequencing, complex percussions lines and more!

A little bit of Eventide reverb for REV2 & AS-1, since they only have one effect at a time.
All #ambient #patches designed by Alba Ecstasy (a sound pack for #SequentialPRO3 coming soon!)

These are not my best sequencing lines, but I just wanted to share with you a little joy that got me making music again, after we loss Klaus Schulze...

Hologram MICROCOSM & Roland JX-08 - PART 1

"#Hologram #MICROCOSM passing through all effects and categories, using the Roland JX-08 as source, resulting an #Ambient atmosphere.

I had a few effect pedals in my studio. More or less expensive.
I liked some of them, I hated most of others.

Recording live (studio) sessions with a synth directly connected to an effect pedal, can be disastrous sometimes. Especially when post-editing.
That's why I almost quit using hardware effects (I only have a couple atm) and only using software.
And even if I wanted many times to go back and use hardware effects, I restrained myself to do that.
But you know, the UNIVERSE is having its own ways to convince you the opposite!

And that's how I got the Hologram MICROCOSM!

Microcosm needed about two days to accommodate to my studio.
It looked around and said: "oh, so you're not a guitarist, I see what you're doing here". And it just changed its behaviour according to my needs. Isn't this just great?! 😜
But also, I understood how to approach microcosm: gently, with a sense of balance when tweaking the parameters.

THE NEW VINTAGE: Roland JX-08 / JU-06A / JP-08

The #RolandJX08 is playing two sequences (part A&B), Roland JU-06A one sequence line and the JP-08 is bringing the lead to the table!
All recorded via USB AUDIO.
Only using Arturia Intensity as reverb for the JP-08 and Waves H-Delay as stereo delay for JU-06A. The JX-08 runs on its own internal effects.

My conclusions after one week of tweaking the Roland JX-08:
Underestimated because of their size - and for a good reason - anyone who has been open minded enough to the Boutique concept (not me at that time!), soon after they put their hands on such a replica, discover that Roland Boutique sounds huge!

I had my doubts and I even have laughed when the first Boutiques were released.
I tried all the synths formats for the last 20+ years, and let me tell you that small synths does not have a place in my operating theatre! All the time I tend to ignore them, and they're just decorating my studio. Now I own most of the Boutiques and I'm looking to grow my collection (especially with the "collectible" ones!)!

The extended polyphony makes the difference!
Not saying about the two sequencer lines for both parts, the arpeggiator, 3 types of filter, plenty of nice effects and other extras!

Small? Yes! Capable? Very yes!"

Roland JX-08 SEQUENCING (You're Allowed to Dance!)

I was jamming with the Roland JX-08 on this beautiful and sunny - but cold - morning of Saturday, with two modified factory presets, testing the #sequencer, and it sounded too good not to recording it and share it with you!

This recording starts with PART B - a bass sequence that has a mono delay (dly1) on it.
PART A starts two minutes later, having a stereo delay (dly2) and the reverb (hall2) as effects.
No external effects were involved.

I recorded this session via USB Audio, on all the available audio channels that the Roland JX-08 comes with: the master - that includes the two Parts and the reverb also in one stereo channel, and I also kept each individual stereo channel of the two parts - that only have the delay as effect, resulting the original master output of the Roland JX-08, but backed by the individual channels!

Synopsis:
Even my first choice was the Roland JD-08, since I always wanted a full size Roland JD-800, as I was waiting for my order to be delivered (about 14 weeks starting in November 2021!), I changed my mind and found this beauty on stock, locally (thanks Jutas!)!
I had a Roland JX-8P on my hands, a few years ago, and maybe it was a (bad) repaired unit, since the sound was really unattractive (had some knob and functions replacements on the panel), and that kind of made me to be reserved with the JX-08.
...Until I played my friend's Roland JX-8P, a near mint unit, and that's was all: the sweetness and warm of the sound made me want to have such a synth in my studio (but I'm not gonna pay the crazy prices from the SH market!).

Conclusion:
Maybe the sound of the #RolandJX08 is not the same with the original, but I really don't care: the extras that are packed in it, makes the JX-08 perfect for my studio!
Arpeggiators, sequencers, a bunch of great effects, dual and split playing, 3 types of filters and so on!

Oh, and yes: my next move is the Roland JD-08! Definitely!

The Cinematic NDLR: Prophet REV2 / PEAK / WAVESTATE

This is the third time trying to use the Conductive Labs #NDLR in a track that I could publish or improve, after a few tweaks to get it a little.

I thought it would be inconvenient for me to use such a device as the NDLRm only using its arpeggiators on my synths, since I'm used to program my sequences by my own and playing them in sync, manually.

Is it good for my #Cinematic projects? For sure!
It easily allows me to start such a track that can be worked and improved lately in my DAW.

Is it good for Berlin School? Well... since I'm just discovering it, I have to find a way to integrate it with my sequencers and my workflow.
The major contribution is that brings the chord progression (that I'm not using too much in my tracks), and starting from here, I'll have to sync the NDLR to the internal sequencers of my synths.

But in the #ambient world, the NDLR is a must!

Is it easy to use the NDLR?
I haven't yet read the user manual.
I have printed it and abandoned because the NDLR is very intuitive as long as you already worked with synths and sequencers.
Do you need music theory? Not so much if you're only using the NDLR.
That's why it should be, imho, a must in every beginner's studio.

Is this track too long and incomplete? Yes!
But I hope you'll enjoy it anyway!

Sequential TAKE 5 - ONE SYNTH CHALLENGE!

"I was talking to Antonio @ Zeedo Shop and he asked me if it could be possible for a track with only the Sequential TAKE 5.
Challenge accepted!

Well... excepting the small part of drums I inserted for a more dramatic effect (DRUMLAB Native).
And I used the Arturia Filter Mini just because I played awful a nice lead sound 😁.
Having the TAKE 5 only for the weekend put an emotional pressure on me!

And more than that, I only used its factory presets, and just adding a couple of effects and some EQing (in the heat of an impro, I may exaggerate sometimes with some freqs)"

Here it is, the promised track, containing the Sequential TAKE 5, Prophet REV2 and Toraiz AS-1.
The Novation PEAK adds a bit of sensation with an FX patch (from the next sound bank I'm preparing).
Each one of the synths runs the sequences on their internal clock, with no MIDI connectivity between them or having a master clock.
All internal effects, just a bit of reverb on the REV 2 (Eventide Blackhole). Enjoy!"

Sequential TAKE 5 Ambient FAVORITE Factory PRESETS

Having the TAKE 5 for this weekend by the courtesy of ZEEDOSHOP (thank you, Mihai!), I decided to make this video, showing my favourite (ambient) factory presets, that I could use, out of the box, without tweaking them, in one of my tracks!
Actually, stay tuned for my next video, where I integrate it in a short track with Toraiz AS-1 and Prophet 08 REV2 (Space Cadet)!

And, in a few words:
- What do I like about TAKE 5?!
Sounds clear, precise but also, the pads can sound very mysterious and... with a strange (?!!) vibe. Keyboard feels great as usual, with aftertouch.
Knobs are sturdy but the overall construction reminds me of Evolver-MoPh-Tetra - but the sound is on another level!

- What I don't like?!
The Volume knob: it seems that the last two steps are not having any impact when tweaking the knob, the volume not increasing anymore.
Not seeing parameters in real time, when tweaking the knobs, it's a downsize, especially when looking for clock divide.
Also, when EQing the above mentioned track (look for "Space Cadet" next on my video list) I discovered a low end leak, that you can actually hear it, even when playing high pad notes.
Anyway, the TAKE 5 overall experience is much greater than its name!

PS: no EQ or any other processing than adjusting the gain of some patches that were on different levels due to their character.

Korg MONOTRIBE Sequence: still WORTHING in 2020?

"I bought my first Korg Monotribe back in 2011, fascinated by this affordable little analogue machine.
Sold it a couple of years later, since it wasn't quite on my workflow. Later, I started to regret that and last year I had the opportunity to buy another one for less about $70.
Fat sound, vintage drums, LFO, noise, sequencer, battery powered: amazing toy! Or it's maybe more than a toy? Or... ?! Tell me what do you think: leave a comment bellow!
Here's a sequence on my own style, with some passenger drums - more like some FXs for the track.
Delay: H-Waves, Reverb: Blackhole. No EQing.
