MINIBRUTE 2 REVIEW – Everything You Need To Know!

Published on Jan 15, 2018 BoBeats

"Arturia are thrilled to announce the imminent release of a new synthesizer, one of three new products which will all be available at stores from late february 2018.

MiniBrute 2 is a 25-key analog monosynth with semi-modular architecture, bridging the gap between the traditional synthesizer instruments and the exciting world of modular. MiniBrute 2 shares many of the same iconic features that made its predecessor such a success, including mixable oscillators, the acidic Steiner-Parker filter, and the chaotic Brute Factor. While keeping many of its signature elements, the tone-shaping potential of MiniBrute 2 has been almost exponentially increased.

The reimagined MiniBrute now features semi-modular architecture, adding a comprehensive CV/Gate patch matrix that allows users to both rework its internal signal routing, but also expand into the blossoming world of modular. It also features the same high quality, aftertouch-enabled keybed found in their flagship MatrixBrute synth, making it a joy to play. Truly an instrument designed for musicians by musicians.

Arturia’s latest small-but-mighty monosynth is the successor to their debut analog instrument, the MiniBrute. The first incarnation was released in 2012, and turned the industry on its head, offering a unique, affordable analog synth experience with attitude.

MiniBrute 2 also features exciting new features that greatly expand its potential, both as the focal point of a creative studio, and as a road-ready performance platform. One of these features includes the new Arturia Link, an exciting innovation that will help unify and democratize your creative environment.

More information on the Link system and how it integrates with other devices will be released shortly. Stay tuned for more Arturia product announcements, and all of your questions shall be answered.

To get a good look at MiniBrute 2 in action, and to hear how it sounds, check out the official Arturia MiniBrute 2 announcement video, featuring London-based trip-hop act The Salvador Darlings.

To get hands on with all 3 of the new products, find Arturia at NAMM 2018. They’ll be at booth #11910."

"From the earliest electronic instruments, synthesizers have expanded and enhanced the possibilities available to musicians. We decided not only to apply this mantra to the sound of our new instrument, but to synthesizer itself. MiniBrute 2 was born! A synthesizer that would sound huge and yet be compact, self-contained and versatile. An instrument that would be both comprehensive and evolving."

Part 2 of this series will look at the sequencer and arpeggiator functions, and Part 3 will explore using the MiniBrute 2 with external elements, including the RackBrute. Please subscribe to this channel to be notified the next installments are released."

MiniBrute 2 Ecosystem: Real-time Performance by Maxime Dangles

Published on Apr 6, 2018

"See and hear the complete range in this video featuring French artist and modular expert Maxime Dangles. This performance will give you an idea of the creative freedom and performance potential of MiniBrute 2 and MiniBrute 2S associated with two RackBrute 3U and 6U packed with exciting Eurorack modules."

And the official press release on the "ecosystem" followed by a tutorial video:

"From their headquarters in the French Alps, hardware and software instrument creators Arturia have announced the worldwide arrival and immediate availability of MiniBrute 2, MiniBrute 2S, and RackBrute.

The exciting new range of hybrid analog modular synthesizers feature hugely powerful synth capabilities, addictive interfaces, performance controls, Eurorack compatibility, and allow users to create an immersive, creative ecosystem that’s entirely unique to them.

Retailers and distributors around the world are now receiving the next generation of Arturia’s MiniBrute. Announced ahead of NAMM 2018, the new range was one of the highlights of the show, and has been well received by reviewers. Following glowing reviews from the likes of Sound On Sound, Sonic State, and Future Music, customers will now be able to get hands on with the instruments, try them out, and make them part of their musical setup.

' A lot of effort was put into this baby ” remarked Sebastien Rochard, Arturia’s lead product manager. “ The first reactions and reviews are astounding, and I can’t wait to see all the crazy stuff people will do once they have it in their hands! '

To coincide with the MiniBrute 2, MiniBrute 2S, and RackBrute systems hitting stores around the world, Arturia have also launched a video tutorial series that will allow new users to quickly get up to speed with the instruments. The first episode, online now, covers the synthesis possibilities, and explains the common parameters shared by both MiniBrute 2 and MiniBrute 2S. Every feature is expertly covered by Sebastien Rochard, who was also a key player in the design and development of the MiniBrute 2 series.

MiniBrute 2 is a formidable analog synthesizer featuring a CV patchbay that lets you reshape and redesign its architecture, a luxurious 25-note keyboard, sequencer, arpeggiator, and Steiner-Parker filter for full creative control.

Geared toward the modern electronic musician, MiniBrute 2S features the same powerful analog synth engine as the MiniBrute 2, but replaces the keyboard with an advanced, triple-layered sequencer with performance pad interface.
The RackBrute 3U and 6U systems are affordable, adaptable Eurorack modular housing systems that can either be used in a standalone mode, or connected via the Arturia Link system to either the MiniBrute 2 or MiniBrute 2S to create an inspiring modular synth ecosystem."

Music: Stéphane Schott (http://www.lyynkstudio.com/)

"Making Eurorack modular more accessible and intuitive than ever, RackBrute can connect to the MiniBrute 2 or MiniBrute 2S to create the ultimate modular synth ecosystem. Keeping all your modules safe, powered, and within easy reach. Combining your choice of modules with the enormous synth potential of the next-gen MiniBrutes. A patent-free Link system so that other companies can join in the fun. This is MiniBrute 2. This is MiniBrute 2S. This is RackBrute. This is only the beginning."

Update: RackBrute review: Link system explained on the new Arturia Rack Brute

Published on Jan 17, 2018 loopop

Note there are no modules, just the cases. The bottom of the stands attacked to the new MiniBrute 2 and 2S.  Curious if Arturia will be producing eurorack modules over time.

The press release:

"Grenoble-based hardware and software synth specialists Arturia are proud to announce the imminent release of RackBrute, a Eurorack modular storage, power, and transport system.
Following the announcement of the new MiniBrute 2 and MiniBrute 2S synthesizers, RackBrute is the third and final product of the series, and will be available at stores worldwide from March 2018. RackBrute is a dedicated Eurorack case crafted from sturdy steel and aluminium, with many innovative enhancements. Each unit features a dedicated power module to keep your precious gear supplied with +12V / -12V / +5V power, the handle can be calibrated to act as a multi-position stand, letting you use your Eurorack modules in whatever position you find most comfortable.

RackBrute comes in two sizes: a smaller 3U, 88HP version, and a larger 6U, 176HP version. Whatever size your collection, your modules will be housed in the most economic, efficient way possible.

RackBrute completes a versatile, customizable, creative EcoSystem bridging the gap between traditional synthesizers and the world of modular thanks to the new Arturia Link system found on both the MiniBrute 2 and MiniBrute 2S to lock in place. When using RackBrute in combination with MiniBrute or MiniBrute 2S, everything is laid out before you, breaking down all barriers for your experimentation and inspiration.

When you need to pack away for storage, or to transport your whole setup for a gig, RackBrute can pack down into a handy transport mode, with a sturdy carry handle and spacers to prevent any collision between the RackBrute and the other attached hardware. A stylish RackBrute Travel Bag is also available to keep your precious cargo scratch, splash, and dust free.

If you’d like to get hands on MiniBrute 2, MiniBrute 2S and RackBrute, find Arturia at NAMM 2018. We’ll be at booth #11910. We can’t wait to see you."

Arturia Announces New MiniBrute 2S - Sequencer Desktop Version of the MiniBrute 2

Published on Jan 16, 2018 Arturia

And a set of user videos from loopop, BoBeats, and Hispasonic:

The press release from Arturia:

"Following the announcement of MiniBrute 2, Arturia have also revealed an exciting new sequencer variant: the MiniBrute 2S. This is the second of three new products which will all be available at stores from March 2018.

MiniBrute 2S is a sophisticated analog monosynth sharing the signal creation, sound shaping power, and modular capabilities also found in the newly announced MiniBrute 2. It replaces its keyboard with a set of performance pads as well as an advanced, intuitive and addictive, triple-layer sequencer with space to save up to 64 sequences, and the ability to chain them together to create flowing performances. Its multiple layers not only let you create melodic sequences, but also create extra levels of parameter automation to really make your music come alive.

Perfectly geared toward the modern musician, MiniBrute 2S is a synth that promises to bring every element of your creative environment together, and unleash the true potential of modularity. As the keyboard-based version MiniBrute 2, MiniBrute 2S features semi-modular architecture, giving users the chance to rework its internal signal routing by patching into its comprehensive CV/Gate patch bay. The MiniBrute 2S can also take a commanding role in your modular setup, letting you use external modules to affect its sound, or send signals or sequences from the MiniBrute 2S to your Eurorack modules.

Arturia’s latest small-but-mighty monosynths are the successors to their debut analog instrument, the MiniBrute. The first incarnation was released in 2012, and turned the industry on its head, offering a unique, affordable analog synth experience with attitude. The MiniBrute 2S features many of the amazing features that made its predecessor a must-have instrument, including mixable waveforms, the acidic Steiner-Parker filter, and the chaotic Brute Factor.

MiniBrute 2S also features the all-new Arturia Link, an exciting innovation that will help unify and democratize your creative environment. Arturia MiniBrute 2-First bass sound and unpacking

Published on Jul 16, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Just the new week began with a new delivery from ARTURIA, a French company of software and analog synthesizers.
The box was the newest synthesizer Arturia-MiniBrute 2.
This is a semi modular analogue synthesizer that is the successor of the MiniBrute, offering more Brute power than ever before. MiniBrute 2 produces a huge analog sound, equipped with two thick oscillators, which form the core that shapes the sound. Arturia MiniBrute 2 offers a multifilter, ADSR envelope generator and Brute Factor.
The integrated step sequencer and arpeggiator make rhythmic creation easier, while the new modulation matrix opens up many possibilities.
It offers two oscillators with waveforms and shaping: Sawtooth, Ultrasaw, Square, Pulse, Triangle, Metalizer, Sine, Noise, external signal, Fine, Coarse. VCO1 also has a metalizer, pulse width and FM knobs for adjusting and composing sound and a lot more great features but its great advantage is the 48 Point Patchbay which gives you the opportunity to connect to the world of modular and patching the sound in itself.
Arturia offered great opportunities, again giving a great synth with the possibility of getting to know the semi-modular world."

Arturia DrumBrute Impact & Arturia Minibrute 2 Madness pure analog sound !!!

Published on Aug 7, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Hi Guys.
I have a new movie together ARTURIA Minibrute 2 and the new Arturia-DrumBrute Impact.
Small cool performance combination here a little aggressive style, but I hope you like something with a strong kick.
About 2:20 a bit of added energy, it's a spontaneous setting, so excuse me for a small resonance jumps.
DrumBrute is great for quick transitions and arrangements, in addition to sound, creates fun in the game here added distortion on drums built into drumbrute on the sum , Minibrute 2 is a powerful mono soundstage.
Really great for me!!!
Check yourself what the connection has brought.
All sound only from Minibrute 2 and Drumbrute Impact.
Live sound-not mastering not mixing."

Arturia-MiniBrute 2 with Reverb

Published on Sep 18, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Hi Folks !!!
This time something with keyboard and sequencer, more precisely ARTURIA Minibrute 2.
Yeahhh !!!
There is some fun with the BP I LP filter on higher tones.
the sequence from the built-in sequencer from Minibrute 2 has sometimes added a little noise to the sound. I used it for the PICO DSP reverb module from Erica Synths for larger space.
you know Arturia MInibrute has already established opinions as a good aggressive synth, the patchbay in Minibrute 2 has 48 modulation inputs to connect with your semi modular synths or your modular. it's also patched in itself as a powerful beast !!!"

Arturia Minibrute 2 | Little Monster

Published on Sep 3, 2019 Alex Ball

"Arturia kindly sent me a Minibrute 2 and so I made a track with it.

As I’m sure you know, the MiniBrute 2 came out last year and is the successor to the original MiniBrute (2012) with both being modern analogue monosynths with some nice features.

Oscillator 1 has mixable sawtooth with ultrasaw, square wave with pulse width, triangle with metalizer and noise.

Oscillator 2 is simpler with sine, saw and square. It can also run as an LFO.

There is a great sounding resonant Steiner-Parker multimode filter with low pass, high pass, band pass and notch modes. It can self-oscillate.

There’s two dedicated LFOs that can be sync’d or free running.

There’s two envelopes (ADSR and AR) and the latter can loop.

There’s “brute factor” which is an on board overdrive that can get quite extreme (in a good way).

There’s a pitch wheel, mod wheel, aftertouch, an arpeggiator, a sequencer, USB and Midi in and out.

There’s also a comprehensive patch bay that really opens things out and also allows the MiniBrute to connect to Eurorack rigs. In fact there is a whole RackBrute that the MiniBrute can bolt onto via connections on its side panels.

The test for me was “Can I get up and running quickly and get some musical results” and the answer was “absolutely”. I patched in a sync’d bass sound and setup the envelopes and filter and it sounded great. I made a bunch of drum sounds and effects and sampled them for a rhythm track. I also made a couple of lead sounds that you hear in the track and everything sounded really good.

To give a balanced view I’ll list a couple of small niggles. Firstly, I’m not a fan of two octave keyboards, although the Minibrute is designed to be small of course – the clue is in the name!

Secondly the build quality is pretty solid, but the sliders felt a little plasticy (which they are of course) but by contrast the potentiometers were smooth and robust.

Whilst the above is nit-picking really and not really to do with the sound, the one real issue I found was that the tuning would drift and need nudging at fairly regular intervals. I’m not sure if that’s just my unit or that it needs some wearing in or whether they all drift, so let me know if you’ve found the same.

But overall, as an affordable true analogue synth with some instant features and some much deeper ones, I think the Minibrute 2 is a very cool and convenient product that casts a wide net in terms of its potential end users."

Minibrute 2 muiltitracked ambient demo

video upload by Konrad Paulsen

"When i was researching for the Arturia Minibrute 2, i hardly find any good ambient demos for the Minibrute 2, that show its softer side. So when i got mine, and after having some special time with it, enjoying it, i decided to do this little classic ambient multitracked demo for the Minibrute 2, for other people to help to understand how versatile the Minibrute 2 can sound, and that is much more capable of, than the raw aggressive tones. The trick is to simply keep the osc waveform mix levels under or around 50%. A bit above and the audio path starts to overdrive, which also can be nice (as you can hear with the bass coming in) if used dosed.

All 4 tracks were recorded track by track into Ableton Live. Reverb and Delay provided by Source Audio excellent Nemesis and Ventris, some Valhalla Supermassive, and some Vintage Tape Effect crackling from 'Origin' a freeware plugin from Cymatics.fm.

The nature video footage is from my late fall vacation at the baltic sea."

This is a work of fiction, it never happened in real life so no hating on how bad it is. Just messing around within the first 30minutes of me opening up the new Arturia Minibrute. Gotta say it's lots of fun. Looking forward to exploring it a LOT more. Expect some better videos soon. There are some fun parts though in here. Youtube tells me there's sync issues, sorry for that. Not going to fix, just going to upload more videos. This is also my first jam with the fat controller. Still learning it's ins and outs.

I'll tell you that off the bat it has arpeggiator issues. Be warned."

Arturia-MiniBrute 2 nice melody with a built-in sequencer

Published on Jul 18, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Hi Guys!!!
I have something new with ARTURIA-MiniBrute 2 in action.
I recorded the sequences on the built-in sequencer in the MiniBrute 2 and operated with a slightly filter and sound length with decay. then I used a some ringmod and changed the waves.
Sound is with some reverb for more nice space.
Is a very musical synth especially with a sequencer and an arpregiator who is on board.
I liked it for its specific sound character and, of course, the 48 patch bay that can be combined with a modular synthesizer, but this video will be soon.!!!"
