"I added a MIDI in to my gakken sx-150, here is what it sounds like with some chorus and reverb in ableton live.
I was just tweaking the knobs during this. Kick and snare are from live."

AudioCubes Reviews, OSC Support and Open Source SDK
New SDK and OSC Support
We put together a mini audiocube configuration panel for building audio applications easily with the cubes and Max/MSP. This will also let us develop some interesting standalone audio applications in the very near future. As an example, we created some patches to send Open Sound Control (OSC) messages to Future Audio Workshop's Circle synth using the AudioCubes. We also did a Quartz Composer example to send colour info over Open Sound Control (OSC) from Quartz to the AudioCubes' RGB LED.
AudioCubes compatible with Max/MSP 5
AudioCubes work with Max/MSP 5 Cycling '74 recently announced Max/MSP 5, a new version of its well-known creative development environment Max/MSP. As you probably already know, AudioCubes comes with an open source development kit consisting of the hardware communication external for Max/MSP and a collection of Max/MSP patches for making your own applications for AudioCubes. You can download all software from the Percussa Website under the Support section, even if you don't have AudioCubes. Today we tested the patches and external with Max/MSP 5 and all patches and external seem to work fine, so we can confirm that AudioCubes and Max/MSP 5 are compatible.
AudioCubes Review/Interview in Interface Magazine
Percussa AudioCubes in Interface Magazine Interface magazine published a nice interview with Bert and a review on AudioCubes (in Dutch). You can download a PDF file of the magazine article on the Percussa Blog. Thanks to Jean-Louis Gayet and Allard Krijger for their interest and time!
AudioCubes Review/Interview in Beat Magazine
AudioCubes Review in Beat Magazine (Germany) Beat Magazine did a nice interview and review about the AudioCubes. You can download the PDF files at the Percussa Blog. Thanks a lot to Thomas from Beat for spreading the word!
AudioCubes in Gakken’s Otonanokagaku Magazine
AudioCubes Review with Cornelius (Japan) A Japanese Magazine, Gakken’s Otonanokagaku (Science for Adults), did a review about the AudioCubes with Cornelius a while ago. You can download the PDF file of the article at the Percussa Blog. The magazine also contains an interesting synthesizer kit.
AudioCubes at GRANdE MASSIFE Event
AudioCubes at Grande Massife 08 Dirk Kuntze (DJ D'Dread) from Germany, which we met at the Musikmesse back in March, reports about the GRANdE MASSIFE where he played with AudioCubes. Grande Massife is an outdoor arts and music event. Dirk also performed at the Street ArtAffair in Leipzig with the AudioCubes. Visit the blog post for an audio interview, press releases about the event and more photos.

Reissued: Gakken Denshi EX Electronic Experimenter's Kit
"The kit includes instructions for 150 different projects. The text is Japanese only, but there are illustrations of each project to help you put them together, although the final result may come as a complete surprise. The projects include several radios, a lie detector, motorcycle and gun sound effects, wireless microphone and a variety of logic circuits [AND, OR, NOT, NAND and NOR]."
Someone needs to come out with an audio/synth centric version of one of these. regardless, this does look pretty cool. I have a Radio Shack Electronics Learning lab with a bread board and well written project guide. I highly recommend these things if you want to learn the basics and just have a fun toy to play with.
You can find more info on the Gakken on Retro Thing.

Gakken NSX-39 : MIDI playback Test with Rosegarden on Linux
Published on Apr 3, 2014 karenevil·331 videos
Playback starts after 2:19.
"Testing midi playback with Rosegarden on debian wheezy.
This piano sound is generated by NSX-39 with vocaloid voice.
NSX-39 has a micro USB jack and works as a USB-MIDI GM ( General MIDI ) sound generator.
It seems that this NSX-39 is a 'usb midi class compliant' device then no special driver is required, that's why it can be controlled with GNU/Linux.
What did I use for this demo video is 'Rosegarden'.
( Rosegarden : http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/ )
By the way I found this anonymous 'Ave Maria' midi file longtime ago somewhere on the net, thanks to the person who made this midi file :)"

Gakken SX-150 on Microscopics
see the full write-up with images on the microscopics blog
"My good friend Charles Webster brought me a small gift from his recent Japanese/ Australian tour to help beef up the Microscopics studio: a copy of the latest Gakken magazine which also comes with an analog synth as a simple-to-build construct kit. There’s no soldering, or hair-pulling, you just need a small screwdriver and about half an hour.
It’s like a souped up Stylophone and about the same size, with a pen (you can pretend it’s a Fairlight light pen) that makes contact with a metal (or carbon in this case) keyboard to play the notes, except the SX-150 keyboard is continuous with no note divisions, so you’ll have to determine the notes by ear like on your Theremin. It also has a filter, LFO, simple VCA and pitch envelopes, and an external input to process your Minimoog." flickr set courtesy of microscopics.
