Hydrasynth Deluxe single patch “Released RA” with “Liquid Stack” sample

"This is Hydrasynth Deluxe single preset D021 “Released RA”. It’s modified to use Mod 1 input as an external audio input, fed by my Waldorf Blofeld with the “Liquid Stack” classic Emulator sample, bringing the sample into the Hydra signal chain as a paraphonic fourth “oscillator”. I also change the Hydra oscillator waveforms from Saw to TriSaw as I mix in Mod 1 input."

Hydrasynth Deluxe single patch “Entropium RA” + “Loon Garden” sample

"Here is an attempt to feed samples into the signal chain of the Hydrasynth. The sample is an old Emulator II classic, 'Loon Garden', residing in my Waldorf Blofeld with License SL. The output of the Blofeld is fed into Mod 1 input on the Hydrasynth, which is selected as source in the Ring-Noise menu. RM depth 0, Ring Vol 128. Hydrasynth midi out to Blofeld midi in. The multi sample on the Blo is now acting as a fourth, paraphonic 'oscillator' on the Hydra.

The mod inputs are obviously not meant for this use, the volume of the audio is quite weak compared to the oscillators, so I had to turn up AmpLevel and lower the oscillator levels."

"Ken Flux Pierce from the Hydrosynth team introduced us to the new 2.0 update for Hydrosynth, which includes major updates to the synthesis engine that allow for per voice modulation, oscillator bit reduction, and quantized LFOs. The oscillator section now includes a bit reduction knob that can reduce the waveform from 24 bits down to two bits, allowing for dirty and crunchy sounds. The LFO section includes a quantized knob that adds rhythmic syncopation to the LFOs. The voice modulation menu is also very deep, allowing for offsets per voice, which can be used for sequencing or manipulating filters and oscillator shapes.

The update allows for analog emulation with wave table synthesis while also expressing interesting digital aspects of the Hydrosynth and includes a step LFO that has a one-shot step mode, allowing for self-generated patches that evolve on their own.

"ASM's Hydrasynth comes in a keyboard version as well as this desktop version. The pads are velocity and polyphonic aftertouch sensitive and they can be laid out in a chromatic mode, fretboard mode or octave mode where only the notes of the current scale are playable.

Both versions of the Hydrasynth have CV ins and outs which can be used to control or sync eurorack gear to the Hydrasynth. The CV inputs are even audio rate so you can run external sounds into the Hydrasynth with them.

"That's right, I finally am doing a demo of my ASM Hydrasynth! I picked up this synth for a steal online in 2020. I did have a chance to demo the Hydrasynth back in 2019 at Knobcon and I was really blown away by the innovation on display, it was inevitable that I would eventually end up scooping one of these up. Finally, a modern synthesizer with Poly Aftertouch!! Or well, as Ashun Sound Machines calls it, Polytouch, trademarked of course :)

I'm demoing a few of my favorite factory presets in bank A and B. Really, this is the first time I had a solid few hours with this synth and I have to say that I really like some of these presets. Hydrasynth Sounds Influenced by the Sequential Prophet 5

"So I am about to sell my Hydrasynth (mostly financial) but I thought, before I do, I will have a go at cloning some favourite style of sounds as I am in the good position of owning both, and have a lot of sound design experience.

There are no delays or reverb effects on these sounds.

I was going to make a full bank but rather than fill it with 'fill' I just chose the best 6 sounds because if I buy a back there are usually only a couple of sounds that interest me in reality. I will get a whole bank for one sound I really like.

The hydrasynth is no Prophet 5 but I think I have managed to capture some magic beyond what I previously gave it credit for.

Some thoughts: A Hydra with an analog filter though like the Arturia Mini Freak that just got released, it would make a huge difference IMO. A hydrasynth plugin, I personally prefer digital synths in plugin form, I find it so much easier and faster to work with.

Anyway, This was the best I could get synthesising and adjusting the Hydrasynth for many hours to arrive at these sounds. Pretty happy with the results, and learned a lot. These are the kind of sounds I like."

"We posted our review of the new Ahsun Sound Machines, Hydrasynth Deluxe- the twin engined Hydrasynth with 73 keys, and now the Hydrasynth Explorer has just arrived. Rather than post a full review, we fired up the system, hooked up the Soma Cosmos - Drifting Memory Station and took a look and a listen in the form of a Friday synth jam.

The Explorer feels like another nicely constructed piece of hardware with a plastic case but still sturdy, no ribbon controller, but with a 3 octave mini key, poly aftertouch keybed. Essentially all of the Hydrasynth under the hood (8 voices, FX etc)

Nick takes a look at the new form factor and plays some sounds into the Cosmos for a musical interest."

"Sensel Morph MPE tests with the Hydrasynth in MPE mode...variety of controls assigned in the Mod Matrix to pitch, cutoff, drive, and the amazing individual control of 'warps' of specific cross sections of the OSC wave form and if thats not enough freeze reverb manual control for added epicness :) ...truly a unique experience.
