Analog Keys and Korg ESX | MIDERA Live Set at 331 Club on 3/12/2022 in Minneapolis Minnesota
video upload by MIDERA
"I played a live set at 331 Club in Minneapolis on March 12th, 2022. These are the tracks I prepared for the show, although maybe played slightly different than when I played it live. I would have recorded the live show - but it is too much of a hassle recording the video and audio so I decided against doing it.
Added eventide blackhole VST for extra sauce."

What comes after | IDM demo with Roland D-50, SH-101, Yamaha RS7000, Toraiz Squid
video by MIDERA
"Upon writing my recent review of the Roland D-50 (here: https://www.midera-artist.com/roland-...), I decided to reach out to a friend who had bought mine, and I bought it back from him, mostly to see - does the UI really suck as bad as I thought it did?
The first thing to note - it didn't take long for this song to irritate me, so, perhaps this isn't the best track to start off with on the D-50, but as I state in my review, the sound of the D-50 is really pleasing.
So - for some reason, the D-50's interface wasn't quite as bad as I thought. For one reason or another, my brain seems better equipped to handle it. Why is that? I haven't exactly been using it for over 2 years. I think part of it is, two years of exploring other synthesizers, a pandemic, a job change, other things - I think we're just more complicated than 'sit down with X for Y hours and you'll get better.' Like, it took my daughter sitting on a bike 3 times, unmoving, to suddenly... just be biking. So much goes on behind the scenes that contribute to our abilities and knowledge.
Anyway, as I recall - The D-50 is a keeper."

"This was 2020 for me. Obviously the pandemic was the major story throughout the year, but it gave me a lot of time with my daughter - and I got to share a lot of special time with her that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. So I am thankful for my time with her.
The first shot was from a trip my wife and I took to Duluth, a few weeks before quarantine. Even then we felt a sense of something bad coming. But we still went out and explored.
Anyway, here's 2020."

Roland JD-800 meditative ambient pads
video upload by MIDERA
"Support my music:

Just trying to get a feel for the JD-800 still. Honestly, it's just too big. I am trading some gear for a JD-990 and wondering what I'll think of that. I feel like I could probably get similar tones from my other gear. So - the JD-800 is on my short list to get rid of, given its size especially. Great synth, but I like the gnarly sounds the D-50 does a little more. Although, I do quite love that the JD-800 has the "Dire Dire Docks" sound from Mario 64. That part is sweet.

"My thoughts on the Roland D-50: https://www.midera-artist.com/roland-...
I will probably update it. I find the navigation is growing on me. Still my least favorite, but I'm coming to terms with it. Had listed this for $400 two days ago... but someone made me reconsider.
It's interesting just how lo-fi this thing sounds, and yet, it has just a really good soul to it. It reminds me of looking back on a good day, and wishing it were still here, but now all you have left is a photo."

Yamaha SK-30 symphonic keyboard film soundtrack demo
video by MIDERA
"Maybe I’m crazy - but I think this is one of the most interesting instruments I’ve ever played. The paraphonic parts don’t really subtract anymore, they’re interesting and just do different things (I originally recorded a part really digging into that, but it didn’t sound good because of my playing skills so I gave up on it).
I’m honestly shocked about how little this is talked about. The aftertouch is phenomenal and one of my favorite parts. To be able to play a pad AND an expressive mono part is really just a lot of fun.
What, there’s like two threads on GS about the SK series? Like. Nothing. This is not a legendary instrument. It just looks like one. Whatever, it made it obtainable by me, which I’ll take I guess.
Yeah I know I’ve smothered it in reverb and delay, but I just don’t care. I think it sounds good either way, I just prefer it with FX. You can find other demos without it if you must.
Anyway, I just got carried away. The first 4 minutes aren’t actually that good or interesting anyway. At the end is where I ended up having the most fun, throwing the mono part into “hold” mode.
What an all around fantastic string synthesizer. I’ve realized even the SK-20 must be interesting because you can almost treat the paraphonic poly synth part as a lead at times, and then it can also do pads... but I still think the SK-30 is the one to go with.
Ok, I’m out."

MIDERA | The derelict DX7s
Published on Dec 10, 2018 MIDERA
"I picked up this terribly uncared for DX7s from a middle school band teacher tonight. There was tape above three keys (indicating that they likely didn't work), he said the whole thing didn't make any sounds, one key was raised above the others, and that something came up on the screen. Well, yes, the battery needs to be replaced, and so does that key, but everything else worked fine. She's just a little abused. This was one of the messed up patches that was on the DX7s, I loved it so much, I had to do something with it before I replace the battery."
