Vintage 1981 Casio CasioTone 101 Analog Keyboard Synthesizer w/ Extras

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

This one was spotted and sent in via Kurt. Pricey but immaculate. It's a preset keyboard but well used (see the listing description directly below). You can find demos in previous posts here.

"Designed and manufactured in Japan in 1981, the CasioTone 101 (CT-101) analog synthesizer is one of the most iconic keyboards of the 1980s. It’s been used both in the studio and on stage by The Human League, Blondie, Severed Heads, Goldie, Moby, Pulp, Devo, Talking Heads, the Cars, Deee-lite, Stevie Wonder, Beastie Boys, White Town, Autechre, Portishead, Bloodhound Gang, Blur, Beck, Fatboy Slim, and Nine Inch Nails, to name a few.

This one is in absolutely superb condition, inside and out. Included are the original pedals, music rest, AC cable, and hard case.

The keyboard has 49 full-size keys and is finished in satin black painted metal, has wooden sides, and a wood grain finish underneath the front of the keys.

It delivers classic 80s sounds, like its “Cosmic Tone” patch, which uses two oscillators tuned an octave apart, and as the keys are held down, the sound drops an octave as oscillator 1 fades up, and oscillator 2 fades down.

Octave Plateau Voyetra Eight 8 Voice Polyphonic Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Octave Plateau Voyetra Eight Rev 4. Rev 4 - the final revision which includes all of the available MIDI interfacing.

video in the listing previously featured here.

Technically, this Voyetra Eight is fully functional and future-proofed. Under previous ownership, it was serviced at The Analog Lab (designers of Voyetra Eight) about 10 years ago. Upon acquisition, just to be on the safest side, we again had it serviced to assure another 40+ years of flawless performance with full diagnostics, fresh power supply capacitors, a new battery, matching genuine CEM and SSM chip throughout, all cards inspected, and full calibration. It will include 2 custom high quality XLR to MIDI 5 Pin-Din cables for in and out interfacing.

Cosmetically, as you can see it is in fantastic condition. Yes, there are some noticeable but minor blemishes on the chassis from installing the unit into different racks over the years. A modest 9/10 rating on cosmetics.

We don’t have track note on where exactly it was used within specific songs or sessions. Still, we can confirm this Voyetra Eight was used on upward of 100 releases and in some capacity on the following highlighted releases:

Africa Bambaataa - Beware (The Funk is Everywhere)
Africa Bambaataa - Planet Rock: The Album
Ministry - Twitch
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Nine Inch Nails - Sin EP
Nine Inch Nails - Head Like a Hole EP
Depeche Mode - Ultra"

Waldorf Micro Wave Synthesizer SN 9433395

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Waldorf Micro Wave, released in Germany in 1989, is a fantastic rackmount synthesizer that still holds up today, over 30 years later. The Micro Wave sound engine is a 8-voice polyphony (8-part multitimbral) wavetable sample-based synthesizer. It features 64 ROM wavetables and waveform samples. Today, this remains a powerful synth unit with superb sounds in the professional class. It has been used by countless artists, such as Nine Inch Nails and Vangelis. Don’t miss this great synth!

This unit is in very good condition, with only minor wear throughout (see photos), including some scratches, minor coloration, and some rust on the screws. The unit has been thoroughly checked and tested by our professional technician, who has confirmed the integrity and otherwise flawless operation of the unit. All buttons and lights are working perfectly. The display is fully functional and easy to read."

Oberheim Buchla OBMX SN 1307

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Oberheim OBMx is a modern synthesizer module with an audio path that is entirely analog. It has an intuitive and powerful interface which makes it easy for anyone to program their own unique sounds. The OBMx delivers the classic Oberheim and Minimoog sounds while being completely programmable and midi compatible.

An historical point is that the OB-Mx is, at present, the last synthesizer designed by Don Buchla. The 'Oberheim filter' provides 12 dB/oct low, band or hi pass filtering, with resonance. And the 'Minimoog filter' uses a 24 dB/oct low-pass filter.

The OB-Mx was one of the few real analog synths, available with completely modern features. And because it comes from Oberheim, you can expect great sounds, design, and features. The OB-Mx is highly user upgradeable. Out of the box the OB-Mx comes with one two voice expansion card which contains the two oscillators, 4 multistage envelopes, 3 LFO's, and filters. Up to 6 of these cards can be easily installed sufficiently adding to the phatness of this synth and its capabilities. It has been used by Nine Inch Nails, Sneaker Pimps, Apollo 440, DJ Spinna, and U2.

Along the bottom of the front panel is a set of buttons marked VOICE STATUS - the LEDs in each of these buttons light up to indicate which voice is being played at a given time. As well as being quite useful, these offer the added benefit that anyone looking at the panel can at least see some action!

Each voice consists of:

- Two Voltage Controlled Oscillators - Two Voltage controlled filters
- A mixer module
- A Voltage Controlled Amplifier
- Four Envelope Generators Three Low Frequency Oscillators."

"I have filmed myself creating a pattern from scratch with the only Raveolution309. You will notice the lack of compression and sometimes PCM's can sound very loud.

That machine is a beauty with a lot of little bugs, you will hear the sequencer stopping/slowing down when I change part, sounds from a part can cut the ones from other parts, many sounds irregularities etc... this machine is alive!!!

I can play like that during days only with that baby, I do not produce good techno but these oldshool sounds remember me the golden age of techno... I miss Quasimidi :("

Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Previously Owned by Ric Ocasek / Syncro Sound SN 4450

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Not the seller does not have provenance for the Prophet-5:

"Kills me to do this, but up for grabs is a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev 3.3 previously owned by Ric Ocasek and Syncro Sound. This unit was purchased by Ric personally in 1982 for the Beatitude sessions (where it can be heard all over the album) and was also used for the Heartbeat City recording sessions along with Greg Hawkes Rev 2. After the Heartbeat City sessions, Ric said he shipped this Prophet 5 back to Boston where it lived until the studio's final ‘closing’ in the early 90s. When I first met Ric around 2012 he confirmed use on Beatitude and Heartbeat City, but made it very clear it was never used by the Cars live. I also cannot confirm it was used on any other specific recordings but many artists tracked at Syncro Sound including Benjamin Orr, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Peter Wolf, Nine Inch Nails, Iggy Pop, Ministry, Alan Vega (Suicide), New Kids on the Block, Cyndi Lauper, and many others. It was most likely used for some sessions considering it was the only Prophet 5 at the studio.

Please note, I do not have a COA for this item. I did reach out to Ric a few years ago about getting a COA for the Prophet 5 along with the JCM 800 I also have listed from Syncro Sound. His response to my request was that he would prefer to buy them back from me, to which we failed to come upon agreeable terms.

The cosmetic condition is very good to excellent, as it has been studio kept for nearly 40 years now. There is a few imperfections, but as you can see for the most part it is in wonderful condition. I last had it serviced in 2016 for routine maintenance. Fully functional and includes factory MIDI, which works great."

Rare Silver Faced MAM ADX-1 Analog Drum Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"The ADX1 is a compact, inexpensive, all-analog drum synthesizer from German synth manufacturer Music And More (MAM). It has 50 on-board knobs to tweak its five analog drum sounds. These include Bass, Synth, Snare, Hi-Hat and Metal. Each sound has ten rotary knobs that can be used to adjust a variety of parameters for that sound, such as attack/decay/release, stereo panning, filter cutoff and resonance, volume, FM depth and tuning. Sounds a bit dirty — but in a good, analog kind of way. The ADX1 is rack-mountable with a metal faceplate that has been seen in both blue and silver color schemes.

Unlike many other drum machines, the ADX1 is purely a synthesizer—there is no on-board pattern sequencer. There is no patch memory. However, there is MIDI I/O, stereo outputs, individual outputs for each sound, and on-board Trigger buttons to fire off each sound from the front-panel which is useful when crafting the sounds.

As mentioned, the sounds are all analog. And all those knobs do allow you to create some great analog drum sounds—the kind that you might hear from Kraftwerk or Nine Inch Nails. The Snare and HiHat sounds both feature "open" and "closed" variants. The sounds can be quite unique, but also fairly capable of emulating most of the classic analog drum sounds of the past such as those from the Roland X0X line, although the Bass doesn't seem to have the same punch as a 909 kick. The Snare is a lot like the classic Simmons machines. Its HiHat and Metal sounds seem to get the most praise from users around the interwebs. The envelope and filter controls on the HiHat allow for some really cool animated HiHat patterns. And the Metal sound is more of an analog-explosion sound, rather than a ride or crash.

The closest competitor to the ADX1 out there would probably be the . However, the ADX1 is more compact and grittier. The ADX1 ceased production when MAM was bought/sold to another company called Terratec. Its combination of modern MIDI implementation and internal circuitry with old-school analog sounds and low-budget construction make the ADX1 an affordable supplement to your existing synth studio, as well as very fun and capable analog drum synthesizer."

Softube Mutronics Mutator

Published on Dec 17, 2014 SoftubeStudios

"Mutronics Mutator creates mind boggling filter sweep effects on any sound source—guitars, vocals, keyboards, drums, etc. The Mutator can clearly be heard on records by artists such as Radiohead, Beck, Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack and many more. It is now available as a plug-in for VST, AAX and Audio Units, both on Mac and Windows platforms. More info: www.softube.com"

"Mutronics Mutator was an instant success when it came out in the early 1990's, and had an enormous impact of the sound from that decade. The Mutator can clearly be heard on records by artists such as Radiohead, Beck, Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack and many more.

But the Mutator was short lived. Production ceased abruptly when a vital component was discontinued by the component manufacturer. The original has since then only been available at auction sites, often at prices much higher than the original purchase price. Softube has worked closely with Mutronics to ensure that the plug-in captures every delicate detail of the original hardware.

What is the Mutator?
Mutator has an analog voltage controlled filter (VCF) for each of its two channels, which can create synth-like filter sweeps on any sound source that is fed into the unit. The filter can be controlled from a number of sources, for example the envelope follower, which sweeps the filter in proportion to the amplitude of the sound source. In Gate mode, the filter is either on or off, and the filter can also be controlled by the on-board LFOs. These have four waveforms, which create filter sweeps in our out of time with the music.

Another very cool option is to use the external sidechain input, to have an external sound source control the filter movements. For example, insert the Mutator on a pad track and have the filter move in sync with a drum loop. You can also link or unlink the two channels for trippy stereo effects, use the Width control to extend the stereo field and use the Mix knob to blend in the original sound source with the mutated sound.

To further understand what the Mutator does, we recommend that you check out the product video!

In Short

Mind boggling filter effects
Control filter sweeps by the sound source's amplitude, from the LFOs or from an external sound source
Used on many seminal records from the 1990s
Based on technology developed for analog synthesis from the 1960s
Each and every component carefully modeled
Extremely analog behavior of frequencies, phase, distortion, etc"

Headliners included Nine Inch Nails, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Neutral Milk Hotel, Animal Collective, Gary Numan, and more. Vertical banners announcing the festival and headliners graced the downtown streets. In a continuing effort to give back to the community in which the festival was held, Mountain Oasis organizers have donated the banners to the Bob Moog Foundation. The banners will be auctioned on eBay beginning Wednesday, December 11, 2013.

The 10 day auction will feature six banners measuring 60”x30” made of 20 ounce smooth vinyl. The signage includes the name and logo for the festival and the logo/image for the respective headlining bands.

Ashley Capps, president of AC Entertainment, the organization which produces Mountain Oasis, states, “AC Entertainment is proud to offer continued support to the Bob Moog Foundation’s educational and historic preservation initiatives, both of which were featured at the festival. We believe in music as a medium not only to entertain, but to enlighten and we are heartened see the Foundation’s efforts to teach science through music flourishing with their growing project, Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool."

Michelle Moog-Koussa, Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation, acknowledges “AC Entertainment has been a major supporter of our efforts for four years. With their help, the Foundation is affecting the lives of thousands of children in Western North Carolina and beyond. We inspire the future through innovative education. 1974 ARP 2600 Vintage Analog Synthesizer w/ 3620 Keyboard 2600P

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"ARP 2600 synthesizer in exceptional, 100% original condition and in good working order with the optional, duophonic 3620 keyboard! This is the grandaddy of synths, with three VCOs, a 24 dB/oct filter, one ADSR envelope, one VCA and one mixer section, an envelope follower, ring modulator, noise generator, LFO with sample and hold, built-in spring reverb and a pre-amplifier with stereo speakers. All features have been tested and function as they should with the included keyboard controller. Used by everyone from Joy Division to Nine Inch Nails, the 2600 is legendary and can be found on an incredible number of landmark recordings. An ARP 2600 was even used to create the sounds for R2-D2 for the original Star Wars trilogy!

This particular 2600 is Version 4.0 made only briefly in 1974 and one of the last to include the model 4012 filter, which was discontinued in ARP products just two short years later due to the fact that it was virtually identical to the filter used in the best MOOG products of the day. The 2600 versions 1-4 are virtually identical except for the fact that versions 3-4 utilized more reliable VCO chips and a more rugged enclosure. Versions 3-4 can be noted by the G clef ARP logo, still remarkably clean and intact on the outside of the gray tolexed case (photo #6). Cosmetically, this 2600 is remarkably clean. The photos simply don't due this beauty justice! With the exception of a couple small tears in the tolex on the bottom edge of the outer case, it could have just walked out of the ARP factory. We've even had a couple notable artists (we won't say who :) through Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar in the past week who have exclaimed that it's the cleanest 2600 they've ever seen, and we can't help but agree!"

NINE INCH NAILS Novation Bass Station For Auction

"NINE INCH NAILS owned Novation Bass Station Synthesizer.

I won this in the NINE INCH NAILS gear auctions in December 2009. It came in full working condition but with no power supply. I tracked down the original power supply from Novation and will include it.

There are six presets which I have not changed, so they are as they were from the auction (and presumably Trent when he last used it).

This synth was used during the making of the 1999 album The Fragile and is featured in pictures of Trent Reznor recording in the studio that was part of the Fragility Tour Program. Also, an interview in Keyboard Magazine"

Salamander Modular Synth Analog Voltage Controlled Filter

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"Up for auction is a Salamander Modular Synthesizer single analogue voltage controlled filter module-UAF 227. It is in museum quality condition and functions and tunes perfectly. Everything electronically and physically is in perfect condition. It is one of few made in San Francisco, California in the late 70's/early 1980's.

This module includes one voltage controlled analogue filter that is generated from a CEM 3320 VCF IC, the same filter in a Prophet 5! The surrounding circuitry has been greatly expanded and the best possible parts were used in constructing the UAF VCF module by SMS. All of the knobs and switches are military grade (as in literally).

This module comes from the full SMS system that can be seen in the video below. I overtook the modular when I became the sound designer and producer for Asphodel Records/Recombinant Media Labs from Naut Humon. Nothing, and I mean nothing, sounds remotely close to what this module can do.

The bandwidth is so high that I used the SMS to modulate and generate video signals for several installations. From a tuning and musicality standpoint, there is nothing that rivals the absurdly over built quality of the system.

The buyer will have to design their own power supply to run this module. Don't miss a once in a life time opportunity to add one of the rarest synthesizer modules ever made to your modular. All the connectors are standard 1/8" which will interface directly with all Eurorack modulars and similar gear."

The facility was home to many talented professionals who were the users of the equipment we are selling."
