The following is the description for the first video from December 2007. It's meant to give you an idea of what this program is. Be sure to check out the site for updates.
"A program for improvising, jamming or just having fun.
Full info & downloads at www.philizound.co.uk under Freebies.

The Sequetron is a program for converting an ordinary MIDI keyboard or input device into a live sequencer-like instrument for real-time multi-track recording, playback & looping. The *same keys* you use to play also control the system while you are playing it, so you never need to touch your PC keyboard or mouse :)

Sequences can be recorded, played back, looped and controlled independently, and synchronized to an external MIDI clock if required. There is no restriction on the number of 'steps', nor does the sequence have to be monophonic; any notes & chords can be used. The output can be any MIDI device such as a synthesizer, drum machine, light display etc.

Sequence attributes such as pitch, velocity, channel, mute etc., can be changed while they are playing, either individually or in any combination; automatically taking place at the end of their respective cycles to maintain a rhythmic feel.

This ability to record, play & alter different length sequences starting at different times on-the-fly gives the Sequetron its unusual syncopated feel, encouraging you to experiment with overlaying and controlling patterns; even the most basic 1, 2 or 3-note sequences can create something totally unexpected."

Korg EMX-1 + microKORG + Sequetron demo

Published on Dec 20, 2014 Phil Tipping

"Live recording/looping/noodling Korg EMX-1 from a microKORG keyboard via Sequetron, showing a few basic operations. The computer screen shows Sequetron following my key-presses on the music keyboard, but it's not essential - it's not even visible from where I'm sitting! Ditto for the mouse and qwerty keyboard. After a bit of practice the music key mapping becomes intuitive (you can configure it how you want anyway) so you find you rarely look at the screen and can concentrate on the music.
All sounds are from the EMX-1 synths & drums and the microKORG; the EMX-1 internal sequencer is not used. Sequetron seqs (tracks) are allocated to MIDI channels 1 to 5 and 10 to drive the EMX-1 synth & drum parts respectively. Seq 1 is allocated to a different MIDI port to drive the microKORG on channel 1, and both audio outputs are sent to a mixer.
Computer uses a MIDISport 4x4 midi-to-usb adapter with MK-out to PC-in-A, PC-out-A to MK-in, PC-out-D to EMX-in.

Korg EMX-1 + Sequetron - Xmas noodle 2 of 2

"Creating some backing-track ideas from scratch using Sequetron. All you need is a MIDI sound module plus a basic MIDI source/keyboard and an old PC to run Sequetron. The computer screenshot shows it following my key-presses on the music keyboard, but it's not essential for normal operation.

Modular synth & Sequetron - basic 2-voice record/playback

Published on Nov 21, 2013 Phil Tipping·58 videos

"Synth-only 2-voice demo with simple patterns recorded & controlled in real-time by a MIDI keyboard connected via Sequetron. Voice limit (2 x VCO/VCF/EG/VCA) gives interesting variations as seqs sharing the same voice steal notes from each other as they mute & play with different cycle lengths.

Also shows effect of adding a simple soft/hard clipping switch to dotcom's Q107 filter.
Equipment used: Customised Studio-22 from Dotcom, Korg i30 MIDI keyboard, Kenton Pro Solo II MIDI-to-CV, Sequetron 13.07.

Please contact me if you have a means of generating more than 2 CVs from a PC and are interested using (or have tried) Sequetron on your modular. I only had 2 single-channel MIDI-to-CV devices so you'd either need more of these or multi-channel ones, or something like the Expert Sleepers Silent Way system... and of course a synth with sufficient modules - currently outside my budget! :-(

Sequetron 13.07 with Studio-22 modular synth

Published on Sep 29, 2013 Phil Tipping·53 videos

"Quick lash-up using Korg i30 as a simple MIDI keyboard into Sequetron which drives two MIDI-to-CV devices on two separate ports, giving 2 'voices' on dotcom modular synth.
Port 1 goes via Kenton Pro Solo to VCO3, Q107 filter, EG & VCA.
Port 2 goes via Q104 module to VCOs 1 & 2, Q150 filter, EG & VCA.

Sequetron uses 2 macros triggered by Korg i30 foot pedals to switch live output between port 1 & port 2 (could also use normal port commands from the MIDI keyboard, but macros are a new feature!). The 'record attrib source' config option is set so that live's current port value is automatically transferred to the recorded sequence(s) when the recording starts.

This type of synth is essentially monophonic so can't overlay too many concurrent notes as they compete for the limited VCO/VCF paths. You could buy more VCOs, VCFs, VCAs etc., but this is an expensive way of building a polyphonic synth. A cheaper option (although arguably not as much fun!) is to connect additional mono or poly sound devices on other ports. Can have up to 9 ports on current version of Sequetron.

Streichfett string synth - first tests with Sequetron

Published on Jan 10, 2016 Phil Tipping

"New toy from Santa (aka Liz) so first dabbles with Waldorf streichfett string synthesizer driven by Sequetron with a Korg microKORG as a MIDI source. Streichfett can be configured to split strings & solo sections across 2 adjacent MIDI channels so Sequetron channel switching used to record/loop/play each section as reqd.
This is not an in-depth demo of streichfett, but very impressed with limited use so far - both sections can play chords so no note-stealing when sequencing. Simple but clever user interface - no menus :) - with morphing controls encouraging you to twiddle; sounds are richer and have more bass than expected. Headphones or good speakers recommended, although my YouTube playback doesn't do it justice for some reason - maybe my low-res download speed?
MicroKORG only used as a MIDI keyboard, so tried a simple ledge resting across it to hold the screen & streichfett. Not very ergonomic unless you leant over it, so made a sloping version for later shots.

Sequetron MkII Snippets, Supernova + EMU E5000 sampler

YouTube via philtipping | November 25, 2010 | 1 likes, 0 dislikes

"Showing how the Sequetron encourages building & evolving sequences on-the-fly as the mood takes you... or maybe it's just messing about on a keyboard!

Audio recording seems a bit quiet (now I've uploaded it!) so you may need to crank it up.

The *only* controls used are the MIDI keys in front of the screen. All snippets are doodled/played/recorded/performed live starting with a blank sheet, or the remnants of the previous snippet, and only edited to shorten the video - no mice, qwerty keyboards or other trickery are involved!

Full info & downloads at www.philizound.co.uk

Input device is a Cheetah 5V MIDI keyboard in basic mode (any keyboard would do). Output devices are a Supernova synth in multi-timbral (performance) mode, and an EMU E5000 for drums.

Apologies in advance if it all sounds 'samey' ...and mostly in C minor, but that's a limitation of my music skills, not the Sequetron :)"

Sequetron 14.06 Macro triggering with NRPN messages

Published on Jan 4, 2017 Phil Tipping

"Demo of new NRPN macro handling feature in v14.06. Many synths such as this Moog Sub 37 send NRPNs as well as (or instead of) basic CC messages when their knobs & buttons are operated so can now use many more of these for triggering Sequetron macros. More info on http://www.philizound.co.uk"

Sequetron 13.07 with modular synth, drum machine & supernova

Published on Sep 30, 2013 Phil Tipping·54 videos

"Another quick live lash-up with Sequetron driving a dotcom synth plus drum machine & supernova to provide more 'voices'.
The 1st section shows the Sequetron ports, macros & drum style setup.
The 2nd section overlays live screenshots showing the seqs being recorded & looped in real-time, and the dynamic template/virtual keyboard along the bottom shows how the keys change functionality as notes are pressed on the music keyboard. No mice or qwerty keyboards are used.
View at higher resolution if screenshot writing is fuzzy.

Port 1 goes via Kenton Pro Solo to VCO3, Q107 filter, EG & VCA.
Port 2 goes via Q104 module to VCOs 1 & 2, Q150 filter, EG & VCA.
Port 3 goes to Novation Supernova synth.
Port 4 goes to DRM1 drum machine.

The 3 macros are triggered by 3 of the 5 Korg EC5 foot pedals to switch live output between ports 1, 2 & 3 (could also use normal port commands from the MIDI keyboard, but macros are a new feature!).
The macro definitions are:-
cc12, abs=127, [live] cmd, [command] live, [command] port-n, [digits] 1
cc13, abs=127, [live] cmd, [command] live, [command] port-n, [digits] 2
cc64, abs=127, [live] cmd, [command] live, [command] port-n, [digits] 3

The 'record attrib source' config option is set so that live's current port value is automatically transferred to the recorded sequence(s) when the recording starts.

The drum style used for the metronome is taken from the Drum Machine Patterns books by Rene-Pierre Bardet.

Published on Dec 21, 2016 Phil Tipping

"New toy (it's that time of year!) festooned with knobs so ideal opportunity to show how Sequetron macros can simplify some command sequences. In this example, the Noise Level knob and Glide Type button are used to switch the sub-37 keyboard between multiple synths, allowing concurrent looping & live playing.
