WMD Phase Displacement Oscillator Mk2 -Oscillator Beats (eurorack)

Published on Apr 17, 2015 bigcitymusic

"The WMD Phase Displacement Oscillator Mk2 (PDO Mk2) is slowed down to LFO rate. Displacing the phase of the individual outputs is used to create shuffled beats. The individual phase outputs from the PDO mk2 are used to trigger drums from the Mutable Insturments Peaks. The Peaks drums are sent into the PDO Mk2 where we are monitoring the output from the Sum feeding into an Eventide Space Reverb.

Qu-Bit Nano Rand demo

Published on Apr 2, 2015 bigcitymusic

http://bigcitymusic.com

"00:06: The Nano Rand is being externally clocked by Ableton Live by routing the Mutable Instruments Yarns into the Nano Rand Clock In. When externally clocked rate adjusts the rhythmic probability of random gates which are being used to trigger envelopes in the Sputnik Quad Function and Trigger Source. The Random modulation output is the Nano Rand is being sent to the crossfade inputs on the Sputnik Four-Tap Delay/Dual Crossfader to mix between delay times. The random output is also multed out to control the envelope decay times.

00:41: Sequence Variation: The Random Output is modulating (envelope) gate length to create dynamics in a static sequence loop.

The Random output is multiplied and fed into a shuffling clock divider and then sent to the FM input of an oscillator.

The Random output is multiplied again and modulating the sequencer note CV."

Intellijel Triatt - functions and patch example (eurorack)

Published on Mar 24, 2015 bigcitymusic

http://bigcitymusic.com

"The Intellijel Triatt is an especially handy module. Here are several features and examples as to how the module can be applied:

00:15 - Audio Mixing:

Three Oscillators are blend together with the Triatt with the mix accessible via the C/SUM output.

A dry signal is mixed with a wet signal using C/SUM mixing.

01:24 - CV Mixing:

Three CV sources are mixed together using the Triatt to modulate Oscillator parameters.

02:03 - Voltage Source

Each Triatt channel will output CV with no signal present at channel input.

02:11 - Attenuator / Inverter / Attenuverter:

An envelope is used as the input signal in this example. The envelope is modulating the cutoff frequency of a filter.

03:06 - Selectable Voltage

Voltage range is selectable for each channel to either 5v or 10v via rear panel jumpers."

Elektron Analog Keys CV routing guide

Published on Mar 17, 2015 bigcitymusic

"Here’s one way to use Analog Keys with a modular synthesizer. This patch turns key presses into CV Gates and turns the Analog Keys LFO into a CV modulator.

Steps:

Once the system is on press CV (the light will turn red).

Hold Function and Press CV A.

Use knob A to select the Gate type in CV A configuration.

Press CV C.

Use knob A to select the LIN VAL type in CV C configuration.

Press No to exit CV configuration.

Press LFO.

Use knobs G or I to assign the Analog Keys LFO to CV C: Value.

The Analog Keys LFO will now modulate the value of CV C and can be triggered via key presses (which generate CV gates). Two CV busses are still free to assign to other modular inputs.

Sputnik Quad Function Trigger Source & West Coast Random Source cross modulation

Published on Mar 14, 2015 bigcitymusic

http://bigcitymusic.com/

"The Sputnik Quad Function and Trigger Source envelopes are set to self cycle. The Pulse output of Envelope 1 is triggering the Quantized Random Voltage of the Sputnik West Coast Random Source. The Quantized Random voltage is controlling the decay time of Envelope 2. The Pulse output of Envelope 2 is routed to the Pulse input of the Random Source S&H, which is modulating the attack time of Env 1."

Sputnik Four-Tap Delay - Dual Crossfader feedback patch

Published on Feb 22, 2015 bigcitymusic

"This patch explores a feedback configuration with the Four-Tap Delay.

An oscillator is patched into input 1 of the Four-Tap Delay.

The delayed output(s) of signal 1 are patched sections A and B of the dual crossfader, which are then patched into input 2 and 3 of the Four-Tap delay. The input attenuators determine the amount of feedback in the loop."

Sputnik West Coast Random Generator examples

Published on Feb 10, 2015 bigcitymusic

"This is our first power up of this module and it is awesome! Video and patch notes below.
Here’s a quick test & overview of the Stored Random, Fluctuating Random and Quantized Random sections of the Sputnik West Coast Random Source.

00:00 - Stored Random Voltages section
01:10 - Fluctuating Random Voltages section
02:00 - Quantized Random Voltages section
02:27 - Lot’s’o Modulation with Intellijel Shapeshifter

00:00
Stored Random Voltages:
Pulse input generates random voltage
1st output covers 0-5V range
2nd output is voltage controlled and knob alters the distribution of voltages

Patch notes: End of envelope into Pulse input. 1st output into opens and closes VCA/VCF. 2nd output is modulating the Shape parameter of the Shapeshifter. Various color noise from the West Coast Random Generator is plugged into the Stored Random CV input.

01:10
Fluctuating Random Voltages:
Two sections for creating a fluctuating voltage
CV input and control over a bandwidth of .05hz to 50khz

Patch notes: 1st output is modulating the Shape 1 and 2 parameter of the Shapeshifter. 2nd output is modulating the Korgasmatron Filters A & B cutoff frequency.
ADSR 1 into Fluctuating Random Voltage input 2 CV, and an ADSR 2 into Fluctuating Random Voltage input 2 CV.

02:00
Quantized Random Voltages:
Pulse input for generating 1v/oct quantized random voltage
CV input and knob for controlling distribution of random voltages
Two different algorithmic outputs:
“N+1 states” and “2N states“. N is an integer number in the range 1…6 that can be adjusted with the manual control (Man N) and an external control voltage CVN with attenuator. Whenever the rising edge of the input clock signal (Clk In) appears a new random voltage is generated at the N+1 resp. 2N output. The N+1 output is capable to generate N+1 different voltage levels (or states), the 2N output up to 2Ndifferent states. If for example N is set to 4 the N+1 output generates up to 5, the 2N output 16 different states. The voltage steps of the 2N output are adjusted to 1/12 V in the factory.

Patch notes: 1st output is controlling the Pitch of Shapeshifter oscillator 1. 2nd output is controlling the Shapeshifter ratio."

Published on Feb 9, 2015 bigcitymusic

"The Critter and Guitari Pocket Piano is sending MIDI to the Vermona Quad Midi Interface which is controlling the pitch of the Intellijel Shapeshifter and triggering the Intellijel Dual ADSR. The Dual ADSR is cycling through Shapeshifter presets. The Shapeshifter is being processed by the Mutable Instruments Clouds and the Streams module in Vactrol Mode. The Planar joystick is used to control parameters of Clouds."

Planar Audio Morphing eurorack performance patch

Published on Jan 30, 2015 bigcitymusic

"This patch utilizes the Intellijel Planar as a performance joystick audio mixing quad-mixer.

Moving the joystick across x and y morphs between 4 sources:
*Intellijel Shapeshifter Oscillator 1
*Shapeshifter Oscillator 2
*Rubicon Double Sigmoid through Korgasmatron II Ch. A set to band-reject
*Rubicon Sawtooth through Korgasmatron II Ch. B set to band-pass

Planar’s x-axis controls pitch (scaled by the Triatt) through the Toppobrillo Quantimator and Shape 1 of the the Shapeshifter.

The y-axis controls INT FM of the shapeshifter (OSC 1), Korgasmatron cutoff modulation of the Rubicon, and Shape 2 of the Shapeshifter."
