r2m playtime

"vgermuse here. Though you might enjoy this little playtime with my Doepfer r2m ribbon controller controlling a Roland JP-8080. Just a fun little technique."

BARRY KLEIN EYES PLAN B

Barry Klein, author of the now legendary synth hobbiest/DIY'ers bible Electronic Music Circuits (EMC) and the The Electronic Music IC Databook, took a trip to Noisebug recently where he spent a few moments purched at the Plan B system and gave the word... HE LIKED IT! (phew!!).

BugBrand Newsletter - New AudioWeevil08 and More

"Hiya, Here's an announcement for new batches and new devices:
- batch of Weevil08s and BugCrusherMicros
- announcement of the new AudioWeevil08 design
- news on the Workshop Osc Machine kits
- and some other bits'n'pieces

***1***
Just gone in the shop::::::

- a batch of 20 Weevil08s, this time in Yellow (with blue dials / lights) and Blue (with yellow dials lights)
I'm undecided as yet whether this may be the final run of the W08 - I'd like to update the design before too long and am out of PCBs for now..

- a mini-batch of 6 BugCrusherMicros

So, it has been a long time in development....
...but I can finally reveal a new AudioWeevil design!

So much has changed in my production methods over the last year and things reach a new peak with the AudioWeevil08, both in terms of features and presentation.
While the features are quite similar to the previous AWeevil07, everything is greatly refined and some new parts are added in.
- we've got a powerful driven input for clean/distorted/modulated signals feeding into a fine filter based on the old Wasp synth offering Lo/Band/Hi-pass response and great resonance.
- there's lots of Weevil functionality including twin oscs, starvation, ringmod-feedback and external processing
- modulation for the filter and one osc comes from a variable saw/tri/ramp LFO with ranges from superslow to audiorate modulations
- new build techniques have produced a combined frontpanel and touchplate (with 16 body contact points), all decorated with yellow silk-screen legend on red pcb-material
- slope front enclosure and powered by 6xAA batteries in an underside compartment.
- 13 dials, 10 switches, 16 body contacts!

Check the above link for more details, pictures and sound examples.
I will be completing an initial batch of 10 over the next few weeks and will be repeating batches (semi-)regularly from then on.
Sorry, but no pre-orders! There'll be the usual BugMailOut when devices are ready and the final price is fixed.

Also quite long in coming are the kits for the Workshop Oscillator Machine.
I've actually got about 20 kits complete already (silk-screened PCB with all required components) but I'm still re-writing all the documentation so that everything is covered in detail - including an overview of the relevant electronics (schematic symbols, components, circuitry techniques), detailed building guide and an introduction to soldering.

I hope to have these in the shop next week, so please check back.
- sorry its been taking a while!

***4***
Some little bits:

- I've decided to stop making Contact Mics regularly so as I can focus more on other areas, but I'll try to get batches out from time to time.
- there are some more Tshirt colours available now.

***x***

That's all for now.
Best wishes,
Tom"

The Mighty Toy Piano

via Kent:
"ToyPiano.zip

I was at my brother's house over the weekend and sampled his daughter's toy piano with a Zoom H4. The instrument sampled was I believe the Schoenhut 'Fancy Baby Grand'

This zip has the samples, a Kontakt3 instrument, and an Ableton Live
Drum Rack instrument.

Since I'm not a brainiac, the Drum Rack may come up and say it can't
find the samples. They're in the "Toy Piano Samples" subdirectory.
Which is where you'll need to go if you don't have Live 7 or Kontak 3.

Example of the samples in action:

Schippmann Ebbe and Flut Basics

YouTube via bigcitymusic

"The Ebbe and Flut is an amazing dual analog multimode filter. Virtually every type of low, high and band pass filters are available at the turn of a knob as well as notch and and allpass modes. You can fade between the two sides, mixing the two filters or using just one or the other. There's a built in noisegate and two envelopes that can control the VCA. There is also high quality distortion and compression. There's a built-in LFO as well for modulating the filters. And that's just part of the front panel!

Logan String Melody II

via this auction
"sought-after 1970s analogue string synthesizer. The Logan has a 49 note C-C keyboard with a split point in the middle & is built into a wooden, tolex covered, flight case. There are sliders to control the volume of the different instrument types - violin, viola & cello - which are all fully polyphonic (unlike for example the ARP Solina & Omni, or the Roland string synths, which are paraphonic). The sounds can be mixed together or used separately & are basically 4' 8' & 16' stops. There is also a monophonic bass sound which can be mixed in with its own slider & can have a percussive attack added via another slider.

The string sound is lush & full; not as bright as an ARP, but with a lovely warm tone. The built in 'ensemble' or chorus makes a wonderfully complex sound & has its own large dedicated circuit board. In addition to the basic string sound there are a few pre-set sounds, including orchestra, organ & accordian.
