MOOG SOURCE With Sync In

via this auction

"16 programmable presets are available. The unusual thing about this synth is that instead of the common "Cassette Interface" on the back of most of the Sources, this one has a 5-pin jack that says SYNC IN. I have read that this was a feature that made the Source usable with some Roland equipment of the same era. I've never used this feature but I noticed it was unusual. I couldn't find any mention of the Sync In feature in the manual, it only talks about the models with the Cassette Interface."

Anyone know more about the Sync In?

Update via Kelly in the comments: "There were three eras of Sources. the earliest does not have DIN Sync. Then there is a "retrofit" era where it was added at the factory but without any silkscreening, so labels were affixed to the outlets. Then the final run that the silkscreening in black (like the one pictured)."

via Zero: "It's a DIN Sync jack making it compatible with Roland Drum machines of the era. I think it was 24ppq."

via Analogika: "The Sync input was standard on all later Sources (it's mentioned in my manual as an addendum from February 9, 1983). There was a period were the cassette input was re-assigned to sync in via factory retrofit, and a sticker applied to the rear of the case.

It's a rather bizarre semi-solution.

The arpeggiator needs a clock signal in order to run, but the actual notes are triggered by pulses to the "reset" in.

The sequencer will run in sync to the DIN 24 signal, AFAIK - I must confess I've never tried it, and my Source is currently cased up for live performance. :-)

-chris."

Update2: you can find a doc on the drum interface for the Source here.

"messing around with machine drum triggering juno 106. DCO's on the juno? still sound beautiful to me!"

machinedrum loves juno 106

"machine drum triggering juno 106. some ctrl-all action, juno into the md. some random knobs twists - i still don't know much about the md's input machines.

i think this is why i'll never sell the 106. maybe my vco monosynths have a bit more refined sound but that juno saw is still nice.

same for the md. i'm using the user wave version btw. maybe a few samples. i don't know. just got the md out after a long break. mki. chaining two patterns at times."

Spectral enso

YouTube via Sigmuntowski. follow-up to this post
"This is a ten minutes excerpt of a new piece from me called "Spectral enso". (Enso is the circle sign of Zen buddhism.)

The drone sound of the music is based upon five layers: 1. a deep filter modulated bass drone (Doepfer MS-404), 2. a very soft rectangular wave drone sound (Yamaha Electone), 3. a looped tampura sample, 4. a very slow and delayed sequence of seven notes, tuned into just intervals to the drone's F base note (Doepfer A-100) and 5. a F major chord (Crumar Multiman S) forced through a phaser.

The video is nothing more than a circle with modulated colors and a moved video feedback, mixed with an image of blue and yellow colors. The video effects are done by TroikaTronix Isadora in real-time.

So this is served best with iced tea and ten minutes nothing to do... ;-)"

"A short video of an annoying patch I've been messing with. Lots of modules used - 3 motm 300's being cross-modulated, getting pitch cv's from the klee sequencer; main clock is the blacet binary zone; clock is being divided by the cgs pulse divider, various odd pulses are kicking several motm 800's which are firing into 3 lpg's, which are shaping the vco's sound; then there's the wogglebug, which is set to this eerie singling clocked setting I found, running through a motm 190 vca controlled by a long ramp wave, then running into a motm 410, feeding stereo outs. Audio captured in cubase, reverb added."

"slightly disorganized session recording.
the pulse gets notes from a x0xb0x.
the TAC mixer (TAC Amek Bullet) souds a lot better than regular "modern" Soundcraft/Mackie/Allen&Heath"
