Something New From Clavia / Nord Keyboards Coming to Musikmesse

via Nord Keyboards: "Wednesday March 21th at 10.00am the 2012 Musikmesse opens in Frankfurt! The Nord Crew will be there and as always there will be something new to try out..."

Click the pic and look at the red box he's resting his hand on. My first thought was the new nord drum presented at NAMM 2012, but if you look at the back of it in this post, you'll see it's fully black. This one is red. Along with the new nord drum at NAMM, Clavia showed the new Nord Piano 2, and C2D Combo Organ, none of which this appears to be. So, a small red box. My dream? A new affordable fully polyphonic micro-modular with iPad editor for performance editing and software editor for PC/Mac/Linux. They could repackage the DSP in the G2 rack with the existing engine and put resources into the editor. I can always dream...

Update: Consensus in the comments is that it's actually the wood side panel of a keyboard standing on it's side. It's painted red like other Clavia keyboards. Note none of the Lead and Wave line of synths from Clavia have had wood end caps, so if this is a new synth, it would be a departure from that.

Update: Looks like it will be the Electro 4D. You can find the announcement here.

"A listening test - more or less, function per function - on the mighty Grendel Drone Commander. Hats off to Eric Archer. There's no excuse for this listening test: there are no excuses for this video: I need a audio feedback on the Grendel to start modeling the circuit by software on my web magazine ;-) www.audiocentralmagazine.com"

Ensoniq ESQ-1 is a hybrid digital-analog synthesizer released by Ensoniq in 1986. The ESQ-1 featured 8 voices with 3 digital oscillators per voice. Each oscillator could be set to one of 32 different waveforms. Some of these were standard simple waveforms such as sawtooth and pulse, while others were samples such as piano and voice. Each oscillator also had an associated DCA (not VCA) to control its volume in 256 steps. In addition to that, an ESQ1's voice featured 3 LFOs, 4 envelope generators, a 4-pole resonant analog lowpass filter (VCF), and a final VCA with left/right panning. It also sported a 61-key velocity-sensitive keyboard, full MIDI implementation, memory for 40 patches, a memory cartridge slot, and an 8-track sequencer. A rackmount version called the ESQ-M was also released circa 1987, with exactly the same specification minus the sequencer. The ESQ-1 was produced until 1988."

VERMONA DRM1 MKIII ANALOG DRUM SYNTHESIZER SN D 07063

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"The DRM1 MKIII is an eight-channel, completely analog drum synthesizer. It gives you total control over every parameter through its 72 controls.

The new version has following changes:
- KICK channel instead of the DRUM1 channel. The Kick channel has some different parameters and can create fatter and deeper kick sounds.
- The DRUM channels have a WAVE parameter which transforms the oscillator's waveform from sine to square
- The oscillators of the DRUM channels will be started with each trig signal.

The DRM1 Mk III is a flexible 8-channel drum synthesizer, which gives you the ability to create your own sounds, as well as many other classic analog drum sounds. Every sound parameter of the DRM1 Mk III has its own controller, so its easy to use and you'll always have a clear picture of the settings.

timeFrogII-fw1.3 drumKit session

YouTube Uploaded by UNDEADINSTRUMENTS on Mar 14, 2012

"I did a very small config in ableton live using a drum kit and some drum samples, dispatched on 4 midi channels.
This video demonstrates some interesting features of the 1.3 timeFrog firmware, in particular:
- cross configuration of midi notes/channels using slots
- semi automated sequencer filling
- beat frequency juggling, with frequency changes from inside the seq
- sequencer scrubbing

Direct audio recording (again), it's why it reminds some ghost drones because of an hardware synth I did not unplug: I planned to edit the video with a clean audio recording, but got crazy in nuendo...
