Bleep's Guide to Electronic Music

This one in via Scott, via Bleep: "Bleep's guide to Electronic Music is a 55 track compilation charting the historical emergence of electronic music by looking at landmark tracks from the 1930s up to present day.

Our aim with this selection of music is to show the length and breadth of the medium, providing a snapshot of the genres forms and styles, and the development of the artform. Whilst there are omissions and compromises that we have had to make, we hope that we achieve our aims and we do some justice to the variety of music that we love.

This compilation developed out of a project to create a Facebook timeline charting the development of electronic music from the late 19th Century until now."

For reference check out 120 Years of Electronic Music

The collection begins with Olivier Messiaen's Oraison from 1937 performed on Ondes Martenot & Theremin (you can find the original full track previously posted here and a beautiful cover on Buchla 200e and Haken Continuum from the late Richard Lainhart here):

"Originally composed by Olivier Messiaen, this beautiful and contemplative piece of music is a monumental moment in electronic music. Argued to be the first piece of purely electronic music written expressly for live performance on the Ondes Martenot, an instrument closely related to the Theremin."

The collection ends with James Blake's CMYK"

"At just 21 years old, London producer, James Blake releases on newly relaunched R&S Records.

At its core 'CMYK' is forged from a myriad of 90's R&B samples (Aaliyah, Kelis) their voices mangled, barely recognisable and thrown into a red-eyed fire of DSP and hours spent in the waveforms."

Echophon + Max/MSP

Echophon + Max/MSP from Pete Shambler on Vimeo.

A 5-module patch (Cyclebox, ES-3, Maths, A-132-3 and Echophon), using an Apple Magic Trackpad to control portions of each module.

The trackpad is routed through the "Fingerpinger" object in Max, outputting X and Y coordinate, as well as angle, data through the ES-3 as voltage.

The Echophon parameters being modulated are (a) Depth, (b) Pitch, (c) Feedback and (d) Echo time.

Sequential Circuits Prophet-10 & Gary Numan 21 Hard Case

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

No mention of Gary Numan at the auction: "For sale is a prophet 10 synthesizer. It's flight cased and in mint cosmetic condition in side and out. Unit functional and sounds as you'd expect fantastic however it has been flight cased and hardly used for nearly 10 years so I cannot vouch for the perfect operation of every function of the unit. Unit can be inspected in NW london. Collection preferred but will ship at buyers expense. Any questions phone Antonio..."

"This is a pretty quirky, cool module. Basically, it affects the waveform of anything you put into it either positively, negatively or both at once in different combinations. So it's a bit like a waveshaper, more like a wavesquisher, I don't know. It gets more interesting when you consider that it pretty much doesn't care what signals you stick where. The standard use would be audio into the input and then say envelopes or LFOs or whatever into the modulation inputs, but you can put envelopes into the main input and the audio into the modulators, or anything you want. It's a hell of a lot of fun and really rewards experimentation. Even just twiddling the knobs produces funky results, and I found it very good for percussive manglings. Less than a year old and despite a little rack rash as good as new."

Note the blue buttons on this one. See this post for how they typically turn grey over time. This one isn't without issues though. Per the seller:

"Up for sale is ROLAND Juno-106 the 'classic' analog synthesizer.
Probably one of the best polyphonic analog synths available, sounds great and easy to play.

I ran the unit in test mode, and it seems like voice chips number 2 and 3 is not working properly and would probably need replacing. Other thing I noticed is that SQUARE doesn't seem to go off even when you press it. Even though the LED light goes on and off, the SQUARE sound still seems to be there. So I'm not sure if the PWM slider is working too."
