A 909 kick drum clone you can build! (BETA)

YouTube Published on Aug 24, 2012 by hexinverterDOTnet

"This is a clone of the 909 kick / bass drum that I have been working on. It is able to be built with common parts, or with the rare 2SC/2SA transistors originally used in the design (room for both is on the circuit board)

APOLOGIES for the poor audio. My speaker cones are "fluffing" and my cell phone camera's mic REALLY accented that sound. The kick itself is nice and clean sounding, of course. I will be sharing some directly recorded sound samples soon!

I have added trigger input conditioners and some basic things to make it play nice in an analog modular synthesizer system. None of the original voicing circuitry has been altered.

I will have circuit boards available in my webstore soon: http://www.hexinverter.net

A build guide and modification guide will accompany the project.

Follow the Muffwigglers thread for more info, here!:

909 Kick Clone Noise Generator Comparison

Published on Aug 24, 2012 by hexinverterDOTnet

"Here I demonstrate the sonic difference between a microcontroller-based white noise generator, and the CMOS based noise generator designed by Roland for the TR-909 analog drum machine.

I hope the difference is clear in the video...apologies for the poor quality. I will do some sound samples later as well.

I am working on a do it yourself 909 kick / bass drum clone you can buy a PCB for and build yourself.

PCBs will be in stock at: http://www.hexinverter.net in a few weeks!"

ELECTRO HARMONIX MINI SYNTHESIZER - Jean-Michel Jarre Video

"Here is a super rare ELECTRO HARMONIX MINI SYNTHESIZER model EH 0400. Unit is fully working 100% and comes with the original EHX power supply. 2 fresh 9 volts are included so you can play anywhere from the onboard speaker, which sounds really crisp and crunchy. The keys have been weathered cosmetically over time by some previous owner who got a little excited... However the playability of the keyboard is still flawless. Every key works and has a solid, fat tone. I opened it up and cleaned the interior and sliders as best I could. Everything is original, including the cardboard back cover. This is a rare collectors item, and this thing packs a serious punch for it's size and the sound does not disappoint. I ran it through a couple of 4x10 bass cabs and this synth blew the roof off my practice space. You will fall in love with the quirky nature of the EH 0400. The sound gets pretty far out there from Hendrix riffs to unknown cosmological territory.

I can film this unit in operation for you but that's already been done... check out this VIDEO..."

The China Concerts (Part 8 of 9) - Jean Michel Jarre

"Peking: October 21st and 22nd, 1981 & Shangai: October 26th, 27th and 28th, 1981.

... After two years of negotiations, the Government of the People's Republic of China agreed for the first time to officially invite a western contemporary musician to give a series of concerts in Peking and Shangai.

... On October 12th, a team of sixty musicians and technicians left Paris for Peking with 15 tons of stage gear in the plane's hold. A gigantic stage installation, one of the most sophisticated concert happenings yet seen, and the technical, diplomatic and human accomplishment of five triumphant concerts fired the Chinese public with enthusiasm.

... The film of the China Concerts retraces this unique adventure, and, with Jarre's music, illustrates post-Mao China: its sufferings, its beauty, its desire for modernity, its aspiration for liberty ... images captured in 1981, at a historical moment when it seemed China was opening itself to the outside world...

... In 9 parts. :-("

ROLAND PHASE FIVE Rare Vintage Analogue Phaser

"Offered for sale is this Roland Phase Five pedal in perfect working order. These rare units were amongst the earliest pedals made by the Roland Corporation in Japan in the mid seventies. It's a pretty interesting phaser - the speed ramps up or down between the fast and slow settings (using the footswitch on the right) just like a Leslie speaker. Things get really interesting when you select the Touch Control function using the middle switch and adjust the Sensitivity - the phasing gets more intense the harder you play, again ramping up or down. I believe this is a unique effect and is very effective in use, the dynamics of your playing adding a swirling intensity. See the YouTube demo below to get a clearer picture of the effect."

"Vintage Roland AP-5 Phase Five in action. Watch the sensitivity-section affects the phasing - the harder you play, the more phaaaazze you get. Also, see how you can switch between fast and slow phasing using the Continous Control section"
