"The TOM was used by Prince Paul back in the Stetsasonic and De La Soul days (there's an interview on Unkut.com and a De La Soul press kit on YouTube). Also said to have been used on Tackhead and Keith Leblanc albums. A ripping effect can be acheived by "turning auto-repeat on with a very fast repeat, holding down a key for a drum, varying the volume with the mod wheel, and varying the pitch with the pitchbend wheel or lever" (search Sequential Tom on Synthmuseum.com). The midi specs and Contemporary Cartridge were developed by Chris Meyer who also worked on the DrumTraks and the Studio 440. Allows "chords of drums to be played, chromatic playing of drums, the same samples to be played together with a slight delay to cause a deep flange sound, etc."

The band Truckasaurus uses their Tom as the "Master" midi/sync and drum machine (check out their tumblr - truckasaurus.com and also search "BSTV: How to Make a Beat with Truckasaurus" on YouTube)."

What's the Ruckus - an iPad Jam by Tim Behrens

Published on Jul 3, 2013 Tim Behrens·58 videos

"This is an experiment of sorts. For me, seeing the sound as it's being made is more impactful. I want to start capturing more of my recordings, but have always fallen short when it came to editing (and motivation). This is my first attempt. All sorts of great iPad apps featured here: Geo Synthesizer, DrumJam, Beatmaker 2, Galileo, Waldorf Nave, Turnado, Audiobus, Sunrizer. Always wanting to give a shoutout to my new friends at the iPad Musicians facebook group. The Thor Contact scoring contest really gave me a new appreciation for what the iPad can do on it's own. I've been having a blast learning from you all and look forward to making more of these."

Early '80s Synth Pop with SH 1000, Juno 60, DR 110, MidiVerb

Published on Jul 3, 2013 SynthMania·253 videos

"This video isn't the best. I'm sleepy and I didn't even notice that the mixer channel with the DR-110 was panned to the side, so the drum machine is only on one channel. The rest of the video is just noodling with the synths, but I just wanted to put something out that showcased the sounds.
Roland SH-1000: synth bass
Roland Juno-60: synth strings
Boss DR-110: drum machine
Alesis Midiverb: reverb"

via Miles Philip on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge:

"I'm new to The Lounge but I've been a reader of MATRIXSYNTH for years. I just finished working on my latest album, Beteo Pod, and thought the MATRIXSYNTH community might be interested. The album was recorded using a Virus TI2, Moog Minitaur, DSI Tetra, Ensoniq VFX-SD, Yamaha CS-10, and a Roland MKS-70 Super JX. I also used U-he's Zebra 2 and Stylus RMX for beats. I hope you enjoy what you hear."

The synth art reminds me of a root creature with patch cords for extended roots!

Happy Birthday Vince Clarke!

A little birdy told me it was Vince's birthday today.  Happy birthday Vince!
We love you and your synths!  Wowza!  :)
