Suzanne Ciani: A Life in Waves Documentary on Kickstarter

On Kickstarter here.

"A Life in Waves is a feature-length documentary film that explores the life and innovations of electronic music pioneer, Suzanne Ciani.

If you watched television, went to the movies, or listened to the radio in the 80s and 90s, you've probably heard Suzanne Ciani's work, whether you knew it or not. Suzanne is a five-time Grammy award nominated composer, electronic music pioneer, and neo-classical recording artist whose work has been featured in countless commercials, video games, and feature films. A self-taught pianist with classical music training from The Longy School of Music and Wellesley College, Suzanne discovered electronic music in the late 60s and quickly became immersed in the male-dominated worlds of sound synthesis and computer music. Differentiating herself from contemporaries like Brian Eno, Giorigio Moroder, and Klaus Schulze, Suzanne created sensual, feminine sounds that pulsed and flowed, with textures more akin to ocean waves than to the dark atmosphere common in early electronic music. With her instrument of choice, the Buchla modular synthesizer, Suzanne revolutionized the advertising industry, and her sounds were featured in spots for General Electric, ABC, and AT&T, amongst many others. Perhaps her most famous piece, the Coca-Cola "Pop n' Pour" sound effect, was featured in hundreds of Coca-Cola commercials throughout the 70s and 80s. In the 90s, Suzanne transitioned from synthesizers back to the piano and formed her own record label, Seventh Wave. Over the course of her 30+ year career, she's released 15 solo albums, including "Seven Waves," "The Velocity of Love," "Turning," the Grammy Award nominated "Neverland," and most recently, the electronic retrospective, "Lixiviation." She's been recognized as Keyboard Magazine's "New Age Keyboardist of the Year," provided the voice and sounds for Bally's groundbreaking "Xenon" pinball machine, played concerts all over the globe, and carved out a niche as one of the most creatively successful female composers in the world..."

"Up for sale, the very rare Simmons SDS 3 analog drum brain complete with pads, cables, and manual. Considered by many to be the holy grail of analog drum synthesizers. It sounds rich, deep, punchy, weird, and fantastic. Here is a youtube demo of the actual unit for sale, where each voice/parameter is tweaked to show it works"

"Some minor issues:
The volume sliders are scratchy. The knobs are all smooth so this wasnt an issue for me.
I could not get the pads to trigger the unit, I'm not sure if this is user error, old cable or something else. The connectors to the pad are verified internally to be wired to the same solder pads that the mic input use, which is what I used when connecting this to drum machine outputs to trigger, so it is probably a non-issue. Using the mic inputs with a drum machine worked fine.
Cosmetically it is in great shape, just two areas in the wood on the front have worn down a little. One of four screws in the bottom of the unit is stripped so only 3 screws hold it together.
One other confusing feature seems to be the way input 1 can trigger input 2 if nothing is connected to input 2, and the same for 3 and 4 being tied together. I think this is a feature that can be managed easily but I'm not sure if its incorrect wiring."

Tides by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith @kaitlynaurelia Featuring the Buchla Music Easel & Madrona Labs Aalto

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith has a new album out titled Tides (currently on iTunes) composed entirely with a Buchla Music Easel and Madrona Labs' Aalto. The track Tides V above was composed solely with Aalto.

via Kaitlyn's website: "Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's formative years were spent communing with nature on Orcas Island in the northwest region of Washington state, a place she describes as "one of the most magical and peaceful places I have ever been." Though she wouldn't begin experimenting with modular synthesis until many years later, her creative work continues to be infused with and inspired by the vitality and serenity of Orcas.

Smith left the island to attend Berklee College of Music, where she studied composition and sound engineering, initially focusing on her voice as her primary instrument, before switching to classical guitar and piano. She employed many of the skills she refined in college in her indie-folk band Ever Isles, but a fateful encounter with a neighbor who lent her a Buchla 100 synthesizer, had a profound effect on her. Mesmerized by the Buchla’s potential, she explains "I got so distracted and enamored with the process of making sounds with it that I abandoned the next Ever Isles album." Starting with rhythmic patterns and melodic pulses, she soon began sculpting lush and exciting worlds of sound."

Animodule Gate_Mod Dual VC Gate Modifier / Trigger Delay Eurorack Module

via Animodule

"Take an incoming Signal above ~1.1V (OpAmp Comparators on the Inputs make very forgiving Clock Inputs) and shrink it down to 5MS or lengthen it up to 5 Seconds.
That Gate will appear at the Gate Out.
When the Gate is Over a 10MS Trigger will turn on at the Delay Out.
Set the length of the Gate with the Time Potentiometer OR with the CV Input.

The switches allow you to choose between Interrupt OR Dividing Behavior (1 for each channel).
If you have Interrupt selected, when Clock In receives a new Clock Pulse the time will reset, essentially lengthening your Gate Out and Delay Out to the Time you have set + the time that has already elapsed.
When Dividing is selected Clock In will Ignore new Clock Pulses until it has finished the current cycle it's running.

The Delay 1 Out is Normalled via the Jack switch of the Clock 2 Input for all kinds of Timing madness!"
